RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 25 TO 28

RENO, NV (March 24) — This week’s Racing Preview has local events, announcements as well as what is on TV and the Internet. Finally the season is really getting rolling as starting gates drop and green flags wave.

CAR MEETS:

Fernley Friday Main Street Cruises have returned.

• The weekend gets rolling on Friday with the return of Main Street Cruise Nights in Fernley. Hours are from 7 until 9 p.m. and the Wigwam is the meeting place. Best part if you are coming from Reno or Sparks is the price of gas out there.

New parking arrangements requested by the Carson Mall for the Carson Cars & Coffee meet.

• Sunday gets going with a pair of meets. Starting at 10 a.m. it’s Carson Cars & Coffee with the usual meeting place at the Dutch Brothers Stand by the Carson Mall. The Mall has asked for a different parking arrangement and that is shown on the attacked photo. This will ensure the place can be used for future meets.

Over in Sparks, by the Buffalo Wild Wings, starting at 9 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee has a meet. Weather should be great this weekend.

Cars & Pizza ends the weekend at the Blind Onion Pizza place off the Pyramid Highway.

• The weekend ends with Cars & Pizza meeting at the Blind Onion Pizza from 4 until 7 p.m. It’s located at 295 Los Altos Parkway.

•MOTORCYCLE NEWS AND RACING:

• Battle Born MX begins its 2021 season at the Sandbox, or Fernley Motocross track this weekend.Currently the course is closed as the Reno Chapter of the Over The Hill Gang is watering the entire track.

The club announced there will be a 200% pay back for the professional classes. Saturday is for practice with the first gate dropping around 9 a.m. Sunday. Sadly there will not be a food truck for this race.

• Reno Area Dirt Riders (RAD) is having a club ride as well as OHV registration drive this Saturday from 9:30 until 3 p.m. The area is the Chickadee Staging area off Lemmon Drive.

REPORTER’S NOTE: When I received this flyer the assembly point was at Chickadee but after posting this article found a new one had been issued so the assembly point is AT THE END OF THE PAVEMENT AT MOONROCKS. My apologies for getting this wrong.

In addition to the club rides for those that need them there will be VIN inspections and the necessary paperwork. This will really help those that have bought a bike or OHV vehicle out of state. I’m including the FAQ’s the club put out. (This has the correct location.)

There are great people in RAD and they offer a lot of assistance to those wanted to ride off road. If on has a bike I suggest they join the group as the funds go to trail maintenance.

• Those planning racing in the AMA West Hare Scrambles, which is also a MRANN event, one must make their pre entry online and the website is, www.racemrann.com.

• Over the hill MMX Racing in Marysville has it’s usual practice schedule of from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday on all of its tracks.

• REP Racing did not announce anything for E Street this weekend. So best bet before heading out is to call the hotline at 1-775-265-7223.

+ Riverfront MX Park has practice from 4 until 9 p.m. Thursday. Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. is Sierra Old Timers Ride Day then on Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. it’s open practice on all the tracks.

+ Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A limited amount of spectators are allowed but they like the riders need to register online at, www.repracingmx.com.

RACING (STATE AND REGIONAL):

• Due to restrictions in Clark County the Best in the Desert series has postponed the scheduled UTV Legends Championship race until the week of September 9 to 12.

• Rattlesnake Raceway, located east of downtown Fallon, is having a test and tune session on Saturday, March 27, starting at 10 a.m. Parents remember any minor has to have a release signed.

Northern Nevada Kart Club is having a track workday at Desert Park Raceway located by Lemmon Valley. Saturday’s program also included a racing seminar hosted by Jacob Ciari.

Online registration for the Hawthorne 275 race is now open.

• The online registration for the VORRA race at Hawthorne in early April is now open.

• First Northern Nevada Oval track to start its season is Battle Mountain Raceway. They begin with a two-day Saturday/Sunday show. Something many area tracks will be doing this season.

• Over in California from Roseville to Bakersfield oval tracks are starting their seasons. The Merced Speedway’s race on Saturday can be seen on Short Track TV on www.youtube.com.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Due to restrictions the scheduled NHRA Winter Nationals from Pomona has been postponed. Right now it is a TBD on the schedule. However the 4-wide NHRA event at Los Vegas in April is still a go.

• Thursday is a mix but starts at 10 a.m. when ESPN 3 has the Formula 1 Weekend Preview. Then at 3:30 p.m. www.iracing.com has a virtual Indy Car race followed at 6 p.m on Fox Sports 2 when the broadcast NHRA in 30.

• This weekend the action returns to Bristol Motor Speedway that has been converted to a dirt track. Fon Friday Fox Sports 1 carries the load starting at 12:05 p.m. when they show two rounds of practice for the Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR Cup series.

• Saturday has an early start at 7:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Bahrain as the globe trotting series get rolling again.

Fox Sports 1 at 1:30 p.m. has Camping World Truck and NASCAR Cup qualifying then at 5 p.m. broadcasts the truck race on the dirt at Bristol.

• Sunday get rolling at 7:55 a.m. when the Formula 1 circus begins its 2021 season from Bahrain in the Middle East.

For the first time since 1970 the NASCAR Cup series races on the dirt. This time at Bristol Motor Speedway that has been converted to a dirt track and FOX will broadcast the race starting at 12:30 p.m. Finally the weekends when at 8:30 p.m. NBC Sports airs the Moto GP race from Qatar.
