RACING PREVIEW: MAY 6 TO 9

RENO, NV (May 5) – This week’s Racing Preview has a bunch of car meets, cruises and one that is special for the ladies. While the racing is slim there is one in our region plus motocross practice sessions.

Friday night cruise in is back at Summit Racing Equipment in Sparks.

CAR MEETS & CRUISES: •  On Friday Summit Racing at 960 East Glendale in Sparks is bringing back the Cruise Nights. Last year things got going at 5 p.m. with many cars cruising in and put on display.

• Fernley/Fallon Cars & Coffee, starting at 6 p.m. will have a meet at the Fernley 76th station on Main Street.

• The Friday Main Street Cruise, from 7 until 9, I believe is going to happen as well. They are only going to do that twice a month so I’m guessing here. Hopefully someone will let me know.

There is a Ladies Night Kruise on Friday night to honor Mother’s Day.

  • Here in Reno the Montoya Family Car Club is hosting a Ladies Night Kruise on Friday starting at 8 pm. It’s in honor of Mother’s Day and will run between Vassar and Mill Street on Kietzke. Should be fun.

Fernley/Fallon Cars and coffee has a meet in Fallon Saturday morning.

• On Saturday the Fernley/Fallon Cars & Coffee moves to Fallon for another meet. This time it runs from 9:30 a.m. until noon. The location is the Telegraph Coffee & Cap located at 1805 W. Williams Avenue.

• Sparks Cars & Coffee will host a car meet starting at 9:30 a.m. Sunday by Buffalo Wild Wings. The location is close to the Sparks Target store.

• I believe Carson Cars & Coffee will have their usual meet, starting around 10 a.m. by the Dutch Brothers coffee stand outside the Carson Mall. As of Wednesday evening there was no announcement on their Face Book Page.

• Saturday begins on ESPN 2 as at 2:55 a.m. the network has Formula 1 practice then at 5:55 a.m. qualifying all from Spain. Over on CBS Sports at 6:30 a.m. there is a Formula E race from Monaco. That should be interesting without all the usual sound of motors. Finally at 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Xfinity race from Darlington.

• Sunday has an early start at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN has the Grand Prix of Spain for the Formula 1 series.

It’s called the Lady in Black or the Track Too Tough To Tame. This weekend all three NASCAR series will race at Darlington Raceway. Photo courtesy – darlingtonraceway.com.

Then at 12:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NASCAR Cup race from Darlington, the Track Too Tough to Tame. Due to the odd shape teams have to make some adjustments in their setups.

That wraps things up for this weekend. Weather is going to be good, be sure to remember Mother’s Day on Sunday. Have a safe weekend, get out and see a race if possible and be safe out there.

We now have eight very appreciated sponsors supporting this site. Please patronize them as they support your sport and help nvracingnews continue. And let them know you heard about them through this site.

Tread Connection is our newest sponsor and Blake Sobiloff owns the local franchise. The business brings the tire store to the customer so they don’t have to take time off work or even leave home.

Once the tires are ordered Sobiloff picks them up and arrives where the customer’s car is in a van packed with state of the art equipment. He observes all safety precautions and it’s no contact so tires can be chosen and paid for online.

Another service he provides is scanning tires as that will tell if any alignment is needed. A useful service for fleet owners so they won’t find several vehicles need new tires at once. There are discounts for First Responders, veterans as well as active duty military and members of the National Guard and Reserves.

His primary area is Reno and Sparks and one can either go to the Face Book page or check the website at www.treadconnection.com. The direct line to the business is 775-870-3600.

Next sponsor is G.I.S.L Land Services that, while having a global client base it has a Western U.S.A. Focus. Owner Greg Ekins is a long time off road motorcycle racer competing in the MRANN Series as well as the AMA National Hare and Hound series.
