DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY: ROUND 6

SUSANVILLE, CALIF (May 8) – Once again Diamond Mountain Speedway had a Friday-Saturday double header. On Saturday the Battle Born Winged Sprint Cars visited the track.

Starting the evening were the Mini Stocks and six of them took the lead with Nick Boucher on point. Soon contact brought out a caution and Boucher pitted with a flat while the other car was pushed to the pits.

For most of the Mini Stock main Katelynn Robertson was chasing Suzie Schmitt.

When the green waved again Suzie Schmitt took the lead followed by Johnny Moya with Krazy Kate Robertson giving chase. Once Robertson took second the chase was on as she closed with Schmitt.

After taking the white flag Robertson made her move coming out of Turn 2 when she used an inside move to grab the lead and take the win with Schmitt not far behind in second.

Krazy Kate Robertson won the Mini Stock main.

At the trophy presentation she said, “Yes I did have to work for it but it was a blast though. It was a little bit to get up there but I made it, I was just patient and race my race. I think it was on Turn 2 going onto the straightaway and it was inside.

“Have to give a big thanks to my Poppa, couldn’t do this without him. Also to my mom, sponsors and fans as it means a lot to hear them cheering.”

Next up were the Sprint Cars but unfortunately four out of the seven, due to problems were unable to make the main. On the green Nick Purdy was on point then he slowed and brought out a caution.

Larry Tachovsky won the sprint car main.

When racing resumed Larry Tachovsky took over the lead with Jeff Culver giving chase. The would finish in that order.

Next up was the fastest class the IMCA A Modifieds. It took four heats to set the field and 20 cars took the green. Up front Shawn Natenstedt was on point with Matt Murphy giving chase then the first caution slowed things down.  On the restart Riley Simmons had worked his way to second and was after Natenstedt. Coming out of Turn 4 Simmons used an inside move to claim the lead.

Shortly after than Natenstedt chose the outside line to get around a slower car. However that car was heading to the pits and the resulting contact left Natenstedt clipping the wall be winding up backwards. He was able to continue but had to start from the back.

After a not so good Friday night Riley Simmons came back to win the IMCA A Modified main.

Three more cautions slowed the pace but up front Simmons was on his game. Behind him Paul Culp too over second while Chris Nieman worked his way into third.   In the end Simmons won the race followed by Culp, Nieman and forth place Nevin Kennemore. Behind them Natenstedt had gone from last to sixth at the end.

Riley Simmons won Saturday’s A Mod feature.

“We started ninth, had issues Friday, worked on the car all day today went back and I think we found something that works good,” Simmons said later. “Honestly I could go pretty anywhere I wanted, I could run the top, I could run the bottom. Like I said, we founds something good went from ninth to first so I’d say that’s pretty good.”

Then he thanked his parents and Reno Rock Transport.

Next up were the IMCA Northern Sportmods but during their parade laps Jason Ferguson had problems, pulled onto the infield, got going again and headed for the pits.  Then the green waved sending 12 cars roaring into Turn 1. Soon after that Ryan Perry took over the lead with Tyler Rodgers claiming second.

The pace was slowed with two quick cautions and another happen after contact that sent Rodgers to the pits with a flat tire. There would be one more caution before the end.

Ryan Peery won the Northern Sport Mod feature.

Up front Peery was in cruise control as he easily got past slower cars on his way to the victory. Behind him Trevor Clements ended up second while Colton Chew finished third.

Ryan Peery was the Sport Mod winner.

At the trophy presentation Peery said, “It was pretty fun, got to the lead early had a check out lead. Track was pretty decent couldn’t ask for any better track. On the restarts I just kind of stuck it around the bottom and hopefully no one could stick their nose under there and try to get by me.”

Then he thanked Paradise Painting, Hoppes Motorsports, Bleu Frog Realty and A&J Farms.

Before the Stock Car main began the field did a 4-wide tribute to one of their members that passed away this week.

Before the Stock Car main began the field did a 4-wide salute in tribute to one of their members that recently passed away. After that everyone got into their proper place and it was time to go racing and end the night.

At the start 21 cars took the green then they had to do a complete restart. Once again veteran Carl Barlow was on point but two more cautions slowed things down.

After working his way to the front there was no stopping Randy Boyd as he swept both nights with victory in the Stock Car mains.

There was a three-way battle for the lead but behind them Randy Boyd was moving toward the front. Finally, just before the next caution Boyd used an inside move on the exit of Turn 4 to take the lead.   Three more cautions slowed the pace but at the end Boyd prevailed and scored the victory.

Behind him Aaron  Flournoy was second followed by Royce Goetz and Jacob Dias while early leader Barlow ended up fifth.

Randy Boyd won both Friday and Saturday night’s Stock Car features.

After the race ended Boyd said, “The cautions kept coming and kept coming and restarts being in the front is stressful. We started deep in the field and worked our way up. It was a fun race. Track was nice, good grip on the bottom and smooth.”

Then he thanked his wife, Icon Pistons and Goetz Racing.

• Friday night’s winners were Chris Nieman (A Mods), Tyler Rodgers (Sportmods), Randy Boyd (Stock Car) and Tom Davis (Mini Stocks).
