RACING PREVIEW: JULY 1 TO 4

RENO, NV (June 30) — As we exit June we’re heading into the July 4th weekend and there are many car events, racing as well as fireworks. Can be an exciting time for all.

CAR MEETS & CRUISES.

• This week’s Thursday cruise in Carson City, from 5 until 7 p.m., meets at the Port of Subs located at 931 Jacks Valley Road.

On Friday there is a cruise in at Summit Racing Equipment in Sparks.

• Friday has two cruises that dovetail into one another. Starting around 5 p.m. the first cruise in is at Summit Racing Equipment located at 963 East Glendale in Sparks.

The Fernley Main Street Cruise is Friday evening.

Then from 6 until 9 p.m. its the Fernley Main Street Cruise. Meet at the Wigwam and the cruise heads east, circle the round about and returns. Good viewing for spectators.

• Friday through Sunday the Motor Shows at Tahoe has a meet that’s open to all vehicles. Location is at the Heavenly Gondola Village and Highway 50.

Saturday is when Fallon has its 4th of July parade.

• While not exactly a car meet there will be cars and some race cars in Fallon’s 4th of July Parade. It is on Saturday and starts at 10 a.m.

• Since the 4th is the first Sunday in the month Reno Cars & Coffee start things at 10 a.m. with a car meet. Location is the Keitzke Starbucks in Reno. Turnouts this spring have been great and its a great way to meet fellow car people as well as seen some great looking cars, trucks and a few motorcycles.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• Winnemucca Regional Raceway gets the weekend started with races Friday night. The action begins at 7 p.m. with all classes competing.

One incentive for fans to arrive early is an additional treat. They can get free rides on the Renegade Monster Bus.

• Rattlesnake Raceway has a two-day show this weekend. Saturday’s action begins at 6 p.m. and there is a preview of the fireworks show on Sunday. In addition Airborne Ranger “Marauder” Monster Truck will be there. Be sure to say hello to Ranger Joe when you see him.

Sunday will have a fan appreciation time then racing begins at 5 p.m. and the town’s fireworks show starts when it gets dark.

• Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville also has a Saturday-Sunday show this weekend. In addition to the track’s four regular classes the Pro Stocks will also be visiting.

Things get going at 6 p.m. Saturday but on Sunday the action begins at 4 p.m. so the town’s fireworks show can get started when it gets dark.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• MMX RACING in Marysville has practice sessions from 9 until 2 p.m Saturday on the main, sand and kids tracks. Sunday’s sessions run from 9 until 3 p.m. and the vintage track is added to the mix.

• REP Racing has a full schedule for this weekend.

+ Riverfront has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Saturday is Sierra Old Timers ride day. Sunday from 9 until 2 p.m. all the tracks are available for practice.

+ Prairie City has practice from Friday through Sunday from 9 until 2 p.m. each day.

REP next Saturday night race is on July 10 and online registrations can be gotten at www.repracingmx.com.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 9 a.m. ESPN 3 has Formula 1 weekend preview from the Red Bull Ring. Then at 2:35 p.m. www.imsa.tv has qualifying from Watkins Glen for the Weathertech Sportscar Championship series.

At 3 p.m Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub followed at 5 p.m. when Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

• Friday at 3 p.m. NBC Sports has the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship race from Watkins Glen, New York.

• Saturday is a busy day for motocross fans. If one has peacock they can watch all the action, starting with practice and qualifying at 7 a.m. from Buchanan as the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series gets ready to race. For the rest a bit of channel switching will be necessary.

• The first motos will be on www.mavtv.com with the first 250 moto at 11 a.m. followed at noon by the first 450 moto. Then NBC Sports picks up the action showing the second 250 moto at 1 p.m. followed at 2 p.m. by the second 450 moto.

Over on NBC at 11:30 they will show the Xfinity race from Road America.

• Sunday starts early at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from the Red Bull Ring.

NBC has a double header starting at 9 a.m. with the Indy Car race from Mid-Ohio followed at noon by the NASCAR Cup race at Road America. Both tracks are challenging and fast, should be a good show for race fans.
