RACING PREVIEW: JULY 8 TO 11

RENO, NV (JULY 7) — As we head into one of the hottest weekends of the year, racing is still going on hot and heavy although some events have either been canceled or postponed due to the heat. There are still plenty of car meets, cruises, races as well as a lot on TV and the Internet for the race fan.

CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

• Thursday – This week’s Carson City cruise from 5:30 until 7 p.m. starts at Bully’s Sports Bar, located at 3530 North Carson Street.

Friday arouurdnd 5 p.m. is when the cruise in for Summit Racing Equipment begins.

• Friday, around 5 p.m.,is when Summit Racing Equipment,located at 960 East Glendale in Sparks has its cruise in.

• Saturday morning at 8 a.m. is when the 2nd Annual Sumersett Summer Car Show & Festivities begin. The show and festival is being held at the Somersett Town Center.

That same day, from 9:30 until noon, Fallon Cars & Coffee will host its first meet of the month. The meet is at the Telegraph Coffee & Tap located at 1805 West Williams in Fallon.

• Sunday is when Sparks Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month. It usually starts around 9:30 a.m. by Buffalo Wild Wings in Sparks.

The monthly cruise for Brunch ‘N Classics is at the Redwood Rotisserie & Grill at 860 East Plumb Lane in Reno. Due to the expected heat the meeting time has changed to 10 a.m. until noon.

SPECIAL EVENT:

RAD is holding a special event this Saturday.

• Reno Area Dirt Riders (RAD) is having an OHV registration drive Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Location is Michael’s Reno Power Sports located at 10828 South Virginia Street.

They will be doing VIN inspections and one can get DMV or notary assistance. It’s also a good time to browse around the store and get find out RAD’s next event and projects.

RACING (REGIONAL):

Schedule for the VORRA Fallon 250 event this weekend.

• VORRA gets the weekend rolling with the Fallon 250 out at Salt Wells east of Fallon. It’s a two-day event with the Motorcycles and Quads competing in next round of their Triple Crown series on Friday. Then on Saturday it’s time for the UTV’s, Buggies and Trucks to take to the course.

• Unfortunately, due to the heat the three-day event at Top Gun Dragstrip has been postponed. Now it is scheduled for the weekend of August 20 to 22.

• Further east Elko Summit Raceway has a Friday-Saturday show with racing beginning at 6 p.m. each night.

• North at Susanville the Diamond Mountain Speedway has racing Saturday starting at 6 p.m. All four classes will be on hand as well as the Dwarf Cars.

REPORTER’S NOTE: The Beckworth complex fire, while not close to 395 is sending a lot of smoke over toward the highway so caution should be observed if it is necessary to drive through it.

• Close to home the Northern Nevada Kart Club hosts the first of two visits by the KPX Karting Championships. Saturday is for practice with qualifying beginning at 4:10 p.m.

2021 KPX Sunday Schedule. This is round 4 of this year’s series.

Sunday begins early with the first practice starting at 8:30 a.m. followed by the heats, pre-finals and finals, which are scheduled to start at 1:40 p.m. It will be a hot day of hot kart racing.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

District 36 cancellation notice.

• For those competing in the AMA District 36 dirt track event this weekend, it has been canceled. This due to the heat expected.

MMX Racing Flat Track series schedule.

• On Saturday evening, starting at 5 p.m., is when the next MMX Racing flat track event is supposed to happen. The practice sessions Saturday and Sunday might also happen but it would be wise to call ahead before heading out. The MMX phone line is 530-777-9724.

Schedule for the 2021 Summer Sundayz series.

• Another race that might be doubtful is the 2021 Summer Sundayz round scheduled for this Sunday. The Club Moto venue, I believe in Dixon, is the venue. As of Wednesday night nothing had been posted if it was going to be postponed.

• When this article was posted REP racing had only one firm date and that is practice at Riverfront MX from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Everything else, including the Saturday night race, is up in the air due to the expected heat. Best bet is to check the hotline at, 1-77-265-7223.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. is when Fox Sports 1 airs NASCAR Race Hub and at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

• As usual Saturday is a busy day starting with the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series. Once again those subscribing to Peacock, a NBC service, can see everything starting with qualifying at 7 a.m.

The first 250 moto starts at 10 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. by the first 450 moto and both can seen watched on www.mavtv.com.

The second 250 moto starts at noon followed at 1 p.m. by the second 450 moto. These are covered by MAVTV, Peacock and NBS Sports but there might be a problem with the last one.

According to the TV schedule NBC Sports is supposed to start the pre-race broadcast for the Xfinity series at noon then go into their race slated for 12:30 p.m. from Atlanta.

Over on CBS Sports at 3:30 p.m. the first of two Formula E races from New York will be broadcast. Then at 4:30 p.m., on a delayed basis, Fox Sports 2 has the first MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Laguna Seca. At 7 p.m. MAVTV airs the 2021 ARCA race from Elko Speedway in Minnesota.

• Sunday starts at10 a.m. when CBS airs the second Formula E race from New York. Then at 12:30 p.m. NBC Sports has the NASCAR Cup race from Atlanta.

Live coverage comes to an end when Fox Sports 1, at 2 p.m., has the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Laguna Seca.
