RENO, NV (JULY 28) — This week’s Racing Preview is full of car meets, cruises as well as some racing. NASCAR is still on it’s two-week break but there are plenty of other things to enjoy.
CAR MEETS:
•Big news is that Hot August Nights returns after being canceled last year. Things get going Friday and Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. in Virginia City. C Street will be full of cars on display and around 4 p.m. there is a cruise. There will be live music as well as awards that are handed out Saturday afternoon.

• I made a mistake last week so this Friday, beginning around 5 p.m. is the final cruise in at Summit Racing Equipment. The store is located on East Glendale in Sparks just east of the railroad tracks.
• That same evening, starting at 6 p.m.is the next Fernley Main Street Cruise with the Wigwam being the meeting place. A great way to either cruise or bring a chair and enjoy the cars going past.
• Last week this reporter was informed that Carson Cars & Coffee will usually have meets, starting around 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday evenings. Best advice is to check their Face Book page.
Sunday is going to be a busy day for car fans.
•Things get going at 10 a.m. when Reno Cars & Coffee has its first of the month meet at the Kietzke Starbucks. The turn out is usually pretty big with all types of vehicles.
• To the north starting at 10 a.m. the Bonanza Casino is hosting “Cruisin’ For The Cure” car show. This is to benefit the Prostrate Cancer Foundation.
All makes and years are welcome and the registration fees, which are matched by the casino, go to the cancer foundation. There will be food and live entertainment.
• Then starting at noon the Emerson Bar and Teresa’s Garage Radio Show has a Classic Cars plus Car Show. The bar is located at 955 South Virginia Street, entry is free and there will be live music as well as give aways.
As I mentioned it’s going to be a big day for car fans.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Due to the fairgrounds being used to stage fire fighting equipment Saturday’s races at American Valley Speedway in Quincy has been canceled.
• To the east Winnemucca Regional Raceway has a Friday-Saturday show featuring all the classes. Racing should begin around 6 p.m.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):
•The Lassen Motorcycle Club is having two events during the annual break for the MRANN series. The events will be held at the Ft. Sage OHV area located east of Doyle, California.
Things get started at 9 a.m. this Saturday with a poker run for bikes, quads, side-by-sides and youth. Then starting at 7 p.m. there is a night team class for everyone but the youth classes on a 8-mile long track. And yes headlights will probably be needed.
• There is also a special race at Desert Park Raceway this weekend but it won’t be go karts. The Norcal Moto Championship series will be using the track.
These little motorcycles have practice starting at 9 a.m. then on Sunday, again at 9 a.m., racing begins.
• Over in Marysville MMX Racing has a weekend of practice sessions. Saturday’s goes from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kid’s tracks. Then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday the vintage track is added to the mix.
• REP Racing has practice at Riverfront MX from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
Prairie City hosts the Hangtown Shoot Out Series with gates opening Friday at 8 a.m. with practice to follow. Then Saturday and Sunday gates open at 6 a.m. with practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing to follow.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday at 9 a.m. ESPN 2 has Formula 1 Weekend Preview from Hungary.At 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub followed on Fox Sports 2 at 7 p.m. with NHRA in 30.
• Friday begins early at 2:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice then at 5:55 a.m. ESPN U has the next practice session from Hungary.
• Saturday also begins early at 2:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice followed at 5:55 a.m. with qualifying. Then at 4 p.m. the network airs the first MotoAmeric Super Bike race from Brainerd.
Then at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from Pomona. Finally at 5 p.m. www.mavtv.com has the 2021 ARCA Series race from Winchester.
• Sunday begins at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN airs the Grand Prix of Hungary. This race usually is the last as the summer break follows.
At 7 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Qualifying Show #2 and at 1 p.m. FOX broadcasts the final rounds of the postponed Winter Nationals from Pomona. Finally the weekends ends at 4:30 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Brainard.

• Wednesday and Thursday the Women With Wheelz Car Show will be in the east side parking lot at the Nugget. It’s part of Hot August Nights and there raffle prizes and special trophies. However one must be registered with Hot August Nights to participate.
• Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is on the air from 2 until 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and an be heard over the air on 1060 AM. This week the show is live outside the north entrance of the Peppermill Hotel and Casino.
There is a Podcast at amm.streamon.fm and it can be seen live on Face Book. The show is focused on all things automotive like trends, new developments and history.
