RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: HOT AUGUST RACES

FALLON, NV (Aug. 14) — Rattlesnake Raceway has a two-day show on a hot, hazy weekend. Due to the fires in Northern California clear days have been a rare item this summer.

This time the race-of-the-night came first when the Bootleggers ran their main. This class is a new version of Bombers.

First on point was Jeremy Lampley, who later set the fastest lap at 18.095 seconds. Next leader was Joseph Keough until Taggart Garland took the lead. A caution had the field revert to the previous lap but on the restart Garland used an outside move in Turn 1 to retake the lead.

Back in the pack Rusty McMillan had been working his way forward but got a flat. During the caution he pitted for a new tire and then had to restart from the back and it appeared, even though he was moving through the pack, there wasn’t enough time to mount a challenge.

Up front second place Blankenship had a problem that brought out a caution. While he spent a short time on the infield the yellow allowed everyone to bunch up.

Closest finish of the night was when Rusty McMillan edged out Taggart Garland for the Bootleggers victory.

When the green waved again, with only a few laps to go, McMillan got on the outside of Garland and the spent the remaining laps racing side-by-side. In the final charge to the checkered flag McMillan was able to get his nose just ahead of Garland and won by 0.155 seconds.

Rusty McMillan celebrates his Bootlegger victory with a Polish victory lap.

Afterwards McMillan said, “It was wild, starting in the back and it was rough trying to get up to the front. Then somebody got into me, popped a tire, came off the track and changed it out.

“Was able to fight my way to the front, got a late caution that really helped me. Then those last few laps were fun, side-by-side for the last three but didn’t think I won.”

Then he thanked Robert Vaden from Vaden Motor Sports, Alec Kniestedt and others for their support.

Jorden Riley dominated the Gen-X main. No could catch him.

When the green waved for the Gen-X main Jordan Riley took off the left everyone. Behind him the battle for second was between Colton Blankenship and Travis Showe, who set the fastest lap at 17.474 seconds.

A lapper helped Showe take second and he set off to try and catch the leader. However time was on Riley’s side as the reached the checkered flag first just under a second and a half before Showe.

The Hobby Stock main was another come from behind race. On the green Clayton Holloway was on point.

Victor Richey used a “come from the back” charge to win the Hobby Stock main.

Behind the leaders Victory Richey was picking off cars ahead of him. Eventually his patience style paid off and get grabbed the lead. Behind him Dan Dias took over second, was giving chase and would post the fastest lap at 16.935 seconds.

In the end Richey scored the victory with Dias in the runner up spot ahead of third place Shane Boyd.

After winning his first race in this car Victor Richey celebrates with a victory lap.

Back in the pits Richey, who scored his first victory in this car, said, “It took me a little while as I didn’t know where everybody was going to run. I just watched them for a lap or two, kind of figured out their line and when one guy went high, I would go low and vice a versa. Didn’t have much trouble but I got into the back of one lapper and that was it.”

Asked who he wanted to thank Richey said he’s a one man band but is looking for sponsors. He would really appreciate it if someone could help him with tires.

Seven IMCA Modifieds took the green and that’s when Shawn Natenstedt took off. In fact he would set the fastest lap of the race at 14.885 seconds.

Two cautions slowed the pace but on every restart Natenstedt left everyone in his dust. At the finish he had over a 3 second lead on his team mate, second place Dave Sciaronni while Wade Lumsden used a steady drive to claim third.

Shawn Natenstedt takes the checkered after dominating the IMCA main on Saturday.

At the post-race tech Natenstedt said, “The track was tricky, it was good, best its been all year. Maneuvering, track taking off at certain times, different parts slicking off, different parts didn’t rut. So you had to move around the whole race but it was good. I wasn’t on cruise control but was searching around for the good stuff.”

Then he thanked his “sponsor” his business Ultimate Air Heating and Air Conditioning.

REPORTER’S NOTE: Dave Sciaronni sent a comment. Went back and found I made a big mistake. Yes Natenstedt did dominate the race but the winning margin was slightly over 3 seconds. Sorry for the error and thanks for pointing it out Dave. So I corrected it in the text.
