SPARKS CARS & COFFEE: DESPITE ICE SOME SHOWED UP

RENO, NV (Dec. 26) — This week winter storms hit the Reno area and left the roads, well a bit more than icy. Still a few diehards showed up the Sparks Cars & Coffee meet.

Only a couple of them were on hand when this reporter arrived around 11 although one left a couple of minutes earlier. Both owners that were present have very different cars.

Kendra Marie stands by her 2005 Subaru Legacy. The all-wheel drive car sports a new set of snow tires.

Probably the best equipped for the weather we’re having is Kendra Marie, who owns a 2005 Subaru Legacy.

“It’s all stock right now but we’re doing a JDM EJ205 swap and it’s also a 4-cylinder. Don’t know if we’re going to do a manual swap on it but we’ve talked about it,” she said.

Considering the weather and icy roads next question was about how the car handles.

“Handling is pretty good,” she said. “I’ve got brand new snow tires on it so it’s pretty good. It’s an all-wheel drive Subaru so it’s awesome in the weather. Been pretty good as it’s pretty slick out there.”

Sitting beside her car was a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid owned by Ryan Jones.

Asked if he’s done anything to it he said, “It’s got an intake and exhaust. It’s nice, good gas mileage.”

Then, of course the next question was how it is handling with all the ice.

He answered, “With the tires it has on now it spins quite a bit but does all right.”

Sad the turn out was so low but understandable due to amount of very slick strets. Hopefully next time the weather will improve and is so the turn should be much better.
