ARENACROSS VISITS RENO

RENO, NV (Feb. 5) — The Kicker AMA Arenacross series set up camp for a two-day show at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center this weekend. The result was two days that were a blizzard of heats, some LCQ’s and mains.

Before the evening show began a JROTC from a local high school presented the colors.

Before every program began a JROTC group from a local high school presented the colors. This was followed by the National Anthem then the show began.

For Honda racer Kyle Peters the weekend saw him score his 45th and 46th victory in the series.

At the end of Saturday’s 450 main winner Kyle Peters said, “ Good weekend for my Honda Team. My teammate Cullin Park and I were one-two all weekend so I was a good week for us. Track’s awesome, there was great racing so, yea it’s good.”

He left Reno with 413 points while second place is Kyle Bitterman with 209 points. After that third place is up for grabs as Wristin Greg is at 205 points while, at least for now, fourth place Lance Kobusch standsat 203 points.

Next week in Colorado, which is Championship Week, Peters, who has won 46 races, said, “Looking good and we’ll see if we can lock it up.”

A lap into the 250 Pro main Kyle Peters takes the lead from Jeremy Ryan.

When the gate dropped for the 250 Pro main Jeremy Ryan was on point but flying over the jump near the stands Peters took the lead. From that point it was his race. Behind him Ryan and Cullin Park had a long battle for second that ended with contact that put Ryan on the ground. In the end it was a Peters/Park one-two with Ryan taking third.

Kyle Peters flies through the air on his way to sweeping the 450 Pro mains.

When the 450 Pro main began Peters had the lead going into the whoops section. Behind him local Aaron Siminoe was holding off Park as they battled to see which one was going to wind up second. In the end Park took over second while Siminoe ended up third.

Sparks racer Demetre Proutsos won the Nov/Intr main.

There were a bunch of local racers competing and in 450 C (Novice) race four locals took the top positions with Oliver Bonner winning. Demetre Proutsos won in the 450 B (Intermediate.)  250 Beginner Jess Wilford, from Reno won. Behind him came locals Max Carlozzo, Brandon Stoffel and fourth place Bryce Daniels.

Despite this crazy landing Reno’s Brandon Stoffel won the Beginner Open. In that race the top four finishers were all locals.

The Beginner open was won by Reno’s Brandon Stoffel. In fact the top four finishers were all local racers.

In the 51cc, 4 to 6 Years, race Nathyn D’Errico (733) won the main.

Moving down to the youngest ranks Nathyn D’Errico won the 51cc, 4 to 6 Years class. Jaydin Smart was a double winner taking both the 7-8 Class as well as the Open race.

Nolan Ford was a double winner taking both the 65cc 10 to 11 and 7-11 Open races. Here his taking the checkered flag.

Nolan Ford was also a double winner in the 65cc 10 to 11 and Open race. Jaydin Smart won the 65cc 7 to 9 Years race.

Gannon Lawson was also a double winner scoring victories in the 85cc 12 to15 and Supermini.

There were two 85cc Classes and Forrest Ziganti won the 9-11 Years race while Gannon Lawson won in Supermini, and the 12-15 Class.

Reno racer Alex Ficco won the Vet 30+/40+ main.

One fun event was the Pit Bike race won by Bryson Olson. At the top of the age ladder Reno racer Alex Ficco won the Vet (30+/40+) main.

The 450 Beginner Class was an all local event. Winner Nicholas Wilford from Sparks scored the final victory of the two-day show.

The final race of the weekend was the 450 Beginner Class, which was an all-local show. Sparks rider Nicholas Wilford won followed by Ryan Gerber, Adam Glaster and Mike Mayhew.

• There was a full show on Friday. One aspect of Arenacross is that, after an afternoon of qualifying and some heat races, the evening show is a blizzard of some heats and main events.

It was the Peters/Park show as the teammates finished one-two in the 250/450 Pro mains.  “Got a really good start and it’s going to be fun,” Peters said after the 450 win. “Good racing and it’s the biggest floor we’ve been racing on.”

Every day begins at 11:30 a.m. where a series of heat races set the fields or evening heats and maybe an LCQ if needed. Then at 7 p.m. each night the final heats and mains begin so fans.

In the other 250 races Enzo Temmeran won the B (Intermediate) main while Jess Wilford, from Reno won the Beginner race while Minden’s Oliver Bonner won the C (Novice race.). Demetre Proutsos from Sparks took the 450 B (Intermediate) victory. Minden racer Oliver Bonner topped the C (Novice) race where the top six finishers were locals.

Moving down the age bracket Ducati Fayer from Reno was the 51cc 4-6 Years winner. Young Jaydin Smart scored a double winning the 7-8 and 4-8 Open races.

In 65cc Nolan Ford won the 9-11 race while Gannon Lawson was the 12-15 winner and the Supermini victor was Kolby Geoff.

In Vet (30+/40+) Class Reno’s Alex Ficco won and the top three, Matthew Manha and Logan Larive were all from this region.

Finally the night ended with the 450 Beginner where the entire field was comprised of local racers. Topping the group was Sparks racer Lucas Evans.
