RACING PREVIEW: MAY 12 TO 15

RENO, NV (May 11) — A busy weekend for fans of car meets, oval track, drag racing and off-road motorcycle racing. And that’s just in this area. There is racing over the hill as well as a great variety of events on TV. It’s a very busy weekend.

 CAR MEETS & SHOWS:

Every Friday through the summer is when Summit Racing Parts has its weekly cruise in.

• Summit Racing Equipment, located on East Glendale in Sparks is having it’s Friday night cruise ins. Things get going around 5 p.m. and it’s a great way to end the work week. 

• Saturday has a pair of car shows. Down in Carson City from 10 until 3 p.m. there is a 4X4 Show and Shine. The theme is to show your mud. 

• Here in Reno the Elks Lodge is having a Veterans Car Show. Times are from 10 until 2 p.m. and should have a good collection of cars. 

Northern Nevada Classics has an event Sunday at Idlewild Park.

• Sunday gets going at Idlewild Park at 8 a.m. when Northern Nevada Classics begins its Poker Run and BBQ. Should be a good time out there.

• Reno Cars & Coffee has its next meet starting at 10 a.m. Sunday by the Human Bean coffee stand. It is located close to the corner of Kietzke and Moana Lanes with good freeway access. 

• Then on Mondays the Pizza Factory in Spanish Springs has a weekly car show. It’s running through the summer and is another good way to start the week. 

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

MRANN has a Saturday-Sunday off road race this weekend east of Fernley. And the long course is advertised as having no whoops.

MRANN is racing this weekend as the Rimbenders present The Big Head Yellow Head event. It’s located east of Fernley off the Nightingale Exit on I-80. 

As usual the Pee Wees start Saturday at 10 a.m. then at 11:30 the Saturday Women, Mini Bikes and Bombers race a short course. Sunday is for the Big Bikes and their race begins at 10 a.m. and uses a 45-mile loop.

• Fernley 95A Motorsports Complex should have practice on its two MX tracks from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

On line sign ups are open for Round4 of the BBMX series.

• Two weeks from now the OTMX will host the next round of the BBMX series at Fernley. Sign ups are online right now. 

E Street MX Park has practice on Saturday and Sunday.

• Over the hill E Street MX has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the front and back tracks. 

The schedule for this weekend at MMX Racing.

• MMX also has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the Main, Sand and Kids tracks. On Sunday times are from 9 until 3 but it is a OSMX Ride Day on the Vintage track. 

REP Racing MX is starting the Saturday Night Series.

• This week REP Racing is starting its Saturday Night series at Riverfront MX park. For times please check, www.repracingmx.com. Since there were power issues at Riverfront, best bet is to contact the hotline at, 1-775-265-7223. 

• Saturday and Sunday there will be practice at Prairie City from 9 until 2 p.m. then the track will be closed for the next 20 days. That’s when they get ready for the Hangtown Nationals event.

RACING (4-Wheel and Regional):

• Due to scheduling conflicts American Valley Speedway canceled it’s Friday night races. 

• This week Top Gun Drag Strip, located south of Fallon has three days of action. It’s the season’s first $5 Friday where spectators get in for that but if someone wants to race their car it only costs $20 more. 

Top Gun is going to be a very busy place this weekend with a series visiting the track.

It’s going to be a wild weekend for the straightline racers. Not only is the Summit ET and Junior Dragsters going to be there but the Norcal Nostalgia Series will be visiting as well. 

Top Gun Speedway has racing Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon this weekend.

• To the north Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville will be in action this weekend. Saturday’s racing begins at 6 p.m. while Sunday’s racing starts at 2 p.m. 

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. is when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race hub. At 6 p.m. CBS Sports airs Formula E Berlin Electric Preview Show. At 6:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30. 

• Friday is a pretty empty day but a good time to check highlights on www.youtube.com

• Fox Sports 1 gets Saturday rolling at 7:30 a.m. when they broadcast the NHRA #1 Qualifying Show from Virginia. Then at 9:10 a.m. www.imsa.tv has qualifying from Mid-Ohio for the IMSA WeatherTech Sport Cars. 

At 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the ARCA Racing event from Kansas Speedway. Also at 12:30 p.m. NBC and Peacock join forces to broadcast the Indy Car race from the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. 

CBS Sports at 3 p.m., on a delayed basis has the first Formula E race from Berlin. Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports presents the Camping World Truck Series event from Kansas. 

• Sunday starts at 9:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 airs the NHRA #2 Qualifying show. Both USA Network and Peacock, at 11 a.m., have the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car race from Mid-Ohio.

At Noon Fox Sports has the NASCAR Cup Race from Kansas Speedway. Another test of the Next Gen cars on a mile and a half track.Then at 1 p.m. CNBC, on a delayed basis has the MotoGP race from LeMans, France.

At 3:30 p.m. Fox Sports has the NHRA Virginia Nationals. The straightline racers are going to burn up the quarter mile out there. Finally at 5 p.m., on a delayed basis, CBS Sports has the second Formula E event from Berlin. 

That’s it for this weekend. Should be great weather so if possible get out to one of the car meets or a race. A great way to get some fresh air and see things live.
