RACING PREVIEW: MAY 19 TO 22

RENO, NV (May 18) — Once again the car and race fan’s buffet is over flowing. There is something for about everyone to choose from this coming weekend. CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

Once again Summit Racing Equipment has a cruise-in on Friday evening.

• On Friday, starting around 5 p.m. at Summit Racing, located on East Glendale in Sparks, there will be another cruise-in.   

The first Fernley Main Street Cruise is this Friday. This year they are held on the third Friday of the month.

• To the east the summer’s first Fernley Main Street Cruise begins around 6 p.m. and the Wigwam is the meeting place. These happen on the third Friday of the month through the summer.

• Over at the Grand Sierra it’s a three day event as Hot August Nights has their Spring Revival Show N’ Shine and Poker run. Things get going Friday afternoon then all day Saturday and Sunday. 

There will be cars on display at the Armed Forces Day gathering at the Churchill County Fairgrounds.

• Saturday is Armed Forces Day and out at the Churchill County Fairgrounds, south of Fallon, there is a big gathering. Rattlesnake Raceway will have some racecars on display. 

There is a car show in Hawthorne on Armed Forces Day.

• Barley’s Sports Bar in Hawthorne has a car show on Armed Forces Day. The show probably gets going around 10 a.m. and all types of cars and trucks are invited.

• On Sunday, from 10 a.m. until Noon, Sparks Cars & Coffee will host its second meet of the month. Location is the Starbucks on Disc Drive. 

•Down in Carson City the Nevada Jeep Club is hosting Barricade Go Topless Day. So if a person has a jeep where the top can be removed that’s the way to go.  

Nevada Jeep Club has a “Go Topless” Cruise on Saturday.

The cruise starts in Carson City, loops through Sparks then Incline Village, South Lake Tahoe and ends back in Carson City. Great way to enjoy the good weather, scenery and share it with other Jeep owners .  

RACING (4-WHEEL):

This weekend VORRA has the Yerington 250. Poker run on Friday, Racing on Saturday and awards on Sunday. Online registration is open now.

• VORRA, Valley Off Road Race Association, has a three-day event this weekend. The Yerington 250 begins Friday with a poker run then Saturday is race day while Sunday is when trophies and awards are handed out. Online registration is open. 

• To the east Battle Mountain Raceway is racing both Friday and Saturday nights. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the green flag should wave at 7 p.m. 

Northern Nevada Kart Club has round 3 of its season this Sunday.

• Closer Reno the Northern Nevada Kart Club is hosting Round 3 of its season. They’ll use track 5 and one can pre-register at, www.nnkc.com

This Sunday’s NNKC race is round 1 of the Shootout Race Series.

This event is part of a three-day Shootout Race Series. The winner from four of the divisions earns a free entry to this fall’s IKF Grand Nationals held at Desert Park Raceway. 

RACING  & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

The next round of the BBMX season will be hosted by OTMX this weekend.

• This weekend Fernley 95A Motorsport Complex hosts the next round of the Battle Born MX series. Saturday is for practice while things get rolling at 9 a.m. Sunday when the first motos start. 

The kid’s track is closed for practice on Sunday. 

This week’s schedule for MMX Racing.

• MMX Racing has practice Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. on the Sand, Main and Kid’s track.  Then on Sunday there is no practice.

Sunday is when MMX Racing hosts round 1 of the District 36 GP series.

The track is hosting Round 1 of the AMA District 36 Grand Prix series. Registration is now open online.

• E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

• Riverfront MX Park has a busy schedule. Thursday from 5 until 10 it’s open practice then on Friday, from 5 until 10 p.m. the track is reserved for Main Event Moto Ride night.

Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. it’s Carmen Ride Day. Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. its open practice on all the tracks. 

Sunday’s round of this year’s Summer Sundayz Series will be at Oatfield.

• Round 2 of the Pro MX Summer Sundayz Series is on Sunday at the Oatfield Raceway. 

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• On Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub, then at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30. 

• Friday at 9 a.m. Peacock has Indy Car practice from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The countdown to the Indy 500 is going on. 

Then at 5:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Camping World Truck series racing in the Texas Motor Speedway. 

• Saturday has an early start at 6:55 a.m. when ESPN has Formula 1 qualifying from Spain. Then at 9 a.m. Peacock has Day 1 of Indy Car qualifying. 

Fox Sports 1 at 10:30 a.m. has the Xfinity race then at 4 p.m. the network has NASCAR Cup All Star race qualifying. Finally at 7 p.m., on a same day delayed basis, Fox Sports 2 has the first MotoAmerica Super Bike race from Virginia International Raceway. 

• Sunday starts at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has the Formula 1 race from Spain. It was announced this week the Russian Grand Prix won’t happen this year.

Then at 1 p.m. NBC and Peacock team up to bring Indy Car Qualifying and the Firestone Fast 6. This sets the field for the Indy 500 held on Memorial Day weekend.

At 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the All-Start Open then at 5 p.m. it’s the NASCAR Cup All-Star race from Texas Motor Speedway. No points this time just money and the honor of winning this annual event. 

The weekend ends, again on a delayed basis, with the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from VIR.
