CAR MEET SUNDAY: TWO GOOD EVENTS

RENO, NV (June 5) — Even though clouds and a few sprinkles were around there were two car meets in Reno on this day. One of them was a benefit while Reno Cars & Coffee had its first weekend of the month meet.

The Cars & Coffee meet was by the Keitzke Starbucks and as usual had a pretty good mix of cars. In fact the turnout was very good considering the weather.

At any Reno Cars & Coffee meet there are some more exotic cars like this Porsche and Lambo.

Over on one side there was a Lambo beside a Porsche. There were other combinations as well.

One vehicle on display was a 2021 Jeep owned by David Nixon. He also added he’s not related to the former president.

David Nixon stands with his Jeep.

The Jeep has a MOPAR Lift, 37-inch tires and a winch in the front concealed by the front license plate that can be lifted out of the way. Other add on’s are a Rubicon front bumper and LED lights on the A pillars.

Davis Nixon stands by his jeep with the special rear shelf he installed behing the rear seats for more storage area.

Earlier he showed an onlooker a shelf in the back. This allows him more storage in the area behind the rear seats.

Parked beside his Jeep was another owned by his wife. Seems they are a Jeep family.

Among the various cars was this Corvette and Dodge.

Looking around there was a Vespa motor scooter and in another row a Corvette was parked by a Dodge. As usual  there was a mix of cars plus some trucks and a motorhome for people to look at.

Another car on display was a 2021 Toyota Supra owned by Francisco Sanchez.

Francisco Sanchez stands by his Toyota Supra.

“I installed a Magnaflow exhaust as well as an Armnspeed Cold Air Intake,” he said. “It has 19 inch Vaseen wheels. I have carbon fiber rear diffuser and skirts as well as engine covers.”

The result is one sharp looking car.

Not far away at the Sportsman’s Warehouse was the Iron Mafia Cars & Stripes Car Show. This show benefited the Disabled Veterans of America and there was pretty good mix of cars and trucks.

The Iron Mafia Car show also had a good mix of vehicles.

REPORTER’S NOTE: Want to apologize to the owner of the next car. Had brain fade and forgot to ask his last name.

One of the cars on display was a 1950 Studebaker Champion. The car has been owned by Bob for about 30 years.

The owner stands by his 1950 Studebaker Champion that he’s restored.

He explained it was on the back burner as he has other cars. However when the Pandemic hit he used the time to start restoring this car.

“It has a 350 Chevy engine, a Mustang II front end,” he said. “I dropped the front end a bit, redid the chrome and have owned it for 30 years. This was the most popular model Studebaker produced and they sold more of them than in any other year.”

He added there reason where there was no front bumper was because when he first got it out on the street someone hit the car. So the now the steel bumper has to be repaired.

Hoods up as well as the Ford’s trunk.

Not far from there a few cars had their hoods opened but one of them, a Ford Hardtop, had the trunk open as the top would fold back into it.

Over on another row Jim and Janet Ogburn, from Carson City, had their yellow 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Club Victoria on display. The car has a long history with their family.

“My father ordered it in August of 1956 and received it in April of 1957,” Jim said. “Back then cars came in two-tone so his father ordered in black and later had it painted how he wanted it.

“My dad had a garage and put 100 thousand miles on the car. When I was in high school I’d work on the car, we installed air conditioning and eventually it was given to a friend then  to my grandfather.”

His grandfather put 300 thousand miles on the car but in 1972 the car had a wiring fire under the dash. Unfortunately the windows were partially down.

Jim and Janet Ogburn stand by their restored 1957 Ford Fairlane. The car has been in their family since his father first ordered it in August of 1956.

After it was parked for 14 years. The red and white interior was ruined when Ogburn got it and stared restoring the car.

“I got it in 1994 and it took six years to restore the car,” he said.  He’s put in a new interior, dashboard as well as repainted the car. The chrome has been restored as well.

Now the Ford sports a 428 cubic inch F motor and is hooked to a Top Loader 4-speed overdrive transmission.   He also has the original bill of sale for the car from when his father bought it.

Everyone at these meets seemed to have a good time and enjoyed themselves.
