RACING PREVIEW: JUNE 9 TO12

RENO, NV (June 8) — A lot is happening again since we’re swinging into summer. Car meets, racing, as well as a lot on TV will keep fans occupied this weekend. 

CAR MEETS:

• This week’s Carson City Thursday Night Cruise, from 5:30 until 7:30, will start at the Empire Ranch Golf Course.

Summit Racing Equipment in Sparks has its weekly cruise-in late Friday afternoon.

 • Friday, starting around 5 p.m., is when Summit Racing Parts in Sparks has its next cruise-in. a good way to end the workweek. The business is located on East Glendale. 

Rockabilly Riot returns to the Churchill County Fairgrounds this weekend.

• Out in Fallon, at the Churchill County Fair Grounds the 12th annual Rockabilly Riot is happening.  It’s a three-day event. For further information please call 775-291-5008. 

• Saturday, from 10 until 4 p.m., D&C Classic Garage is having a Show N’ Shine. The location is 240 Freeport Drive.

• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. is when Sparks Cars & Coffee has its next meet. The location is at the Disc Drive Starbucks on the north side of Sparks.  

This weekend is the annual Cops & Burgers Car Show at Baldini’s Casino in Sparks.

• Baldini’s Casino in Sparks on Sunday is hosting the 15th annual Cops & Burgers Car Show. Spectators get in for free.

• Reno, Sparks Fernley Cars & Pizza is going again. This Sunday, starting around 10 a.m. they have a meet. Location is Wild Garlic Pizza & Pub located at 720 South Meadows Parkway in Reno. 

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Sadly this weekend’s Not Fading Away Car Show has been canceled.

• The planned “Not Fading Away Car Show,” scheduled for this Sunday at the Veteran’s Home has been canceled.  

At least two clubs, plus other interested people, are having a clean up at Moon Rocks this weekend.

• After the mess at Moon Rocks on Memorial Day weekend several clubs including Off-Road Nevada and Reno Area Dirt Riders are joining forces to clean up the area. It will be from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and lunch will be served. It’s a great way to help keep this popular area clean if one can spare the time. 

RACING (REGIONAL 4-WHEEL):

Octane Fest is at Rattlesnake Raceway this weekend.

Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon is hosting Octane Fest 2022 this weekend. Two days of both oval track races as well as special events with Tough Trucks and Figure 8 Races. The show is run Friday and Saturday. 

Diamond Mountain Speedway has racing Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.

• To the north, Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville also has a two-day show. Saturday’s racing begins at 6 p.m. while the Sunday show starts at 2 p.m. for an early afternoon of racing. 

Top Gun Dragstrip hosts the annual visit by the NHRA Open this weekend.

• South of Fallon the Top Gun Dragstrip is hosting a NHRA Pacific National Open event. The weekend begins with testing and tuning on Friday. 

The weekend combines two days of racing. Each day has separate points for dragsters, cars and Junior Dragsters. 

Northern Nevada Kart Club races this Sunday at Desert Park Raceway.

• Sunday is when the Northern Nevada Kart Club is hosting the fourth round of its season. Location is a quarter mile on the Lemmon Drive extension. 

PRACTICE AND RACING (MOTOCROSS):

This weekend the Fernley NinetyfiveA Motor Sports Complex has practice session on the motocross track. Practice sessions are 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Saturday.  

Battle Born MX will be at E Street MX Park this weekend.

• Battle Born MX has its fifth round of the seson at E Street MX Park over in California. On Saturday gates open at 8 a.m. with practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday, race day, gates open at 6 a.m., practice begins at 8 a.m. with racing to follow. 

• REP Racing is having the next round of the Saturday Night Series this weekend at Riverfront. Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. is open practice while Friday is for those camping at the track. 

Saturday gates open at noon, practice starts at 4 p.m. with racing to follow. On Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. there will be open practice. 

Prairie City will have practice sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

AMA District 36 hosts the Donner Hare Scrambles this weekend.

• This weekend AMA District 36 is hosting the Donner Hare Scrambles. Two series are combined for a weekend full of two-wheeled action. 

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

Thursday starts at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hum. Then at 5:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30. 

• Once again Friday is pretty empty. Good time to check out www.youtube.com for updates on racing one may have missed.

• Saturday gets rolling early when www.motortrendondemand.com starts at 6:30 a.m. when the twice-around-the-clock 24 Hours of LeMans begins. Over on ESPN 2 at 6:55 a.m. they air Formula 1 qualifying from Azerbaijan. 

Pro Motocross series is at Lakewood this weekend and both NBC and www.mavtv.com have joined forces to broadcast this event. NBC gets the ball rolling at 1 p.m. with the first 450 moto followed at 2 p.m. with the first 250 moto.

Then Mavtv gets in the act with NBC as at 3 p.m. the 2nd 450 moto is shown followed at 4 p.m. with the second 250 moto. 

At 4:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Camping World Truck Series from Sonoma Raceway. Then at 6 p.m. mavtv has ARCA racing from Iowa. 

• Sunday has continuing live coverage of the 24 Hours of LeMans. The broadcast ends at 7:30 a.m. after the actual finish of the race. Earlier at 3:55 a.m. ESPN has the Formula 1 race from Azerbaijan.

Then at a more civilized hour, 10 a.m. NBC has the Indy Car race from Road America. CNBC, on a delayed basis, at 10 a.m. has the FIM Superbike World Championship race from Italy.

Finally at 1 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NASCAR Cup race from Sonoma. It’s the closest Cup race to our region. 

That’s it for this busy weekend. If possible get out and see a race live. It helps our local racers, tracks and there is nothing like it for speed and color.
