SUSANVILLE, CA (July 24) — Diamond Mountain ended its regular season with the Fair Races. The annual race ends the Lassen County Fair and has a couple of events added to it.
In the end, it was a night of cautions and yellow flags in all but one race. And the flagman was probably very tired from so much waving his yellow flag.
The evening got started with an added event; Power Wheels competition for the kids. Each had a balloon attached to the front and back of their ride with the goal of popping the balloon of a competitor.
The first ended with a girl and boy chasing each other around and in the end she won that contest. Next came a group of older kids. In the end everyone from kids to adults seemed to have a great time.
After the heat races, and before the main events, Jacob Dias took a couple of laps to honor his late grandfather. Then it was time to rumble.
Even though it was a points race only two Dwarf cars showed up. Apparently two others drivers had to work that day and could not make the race.
It was decided that Jeff Foster would get a big head start on Joe Frock. After only a few laps Frock caught him and won the race.
Next up on the racing card were the Mini Stocks. When the green waved 10 of them stormed into Turn 1.
Unfortunately the leader Nick Boucher and Tom Davis had contact and brought out a caution. A full restart was ordered with both sent to the back.
On the second green Anthony Hovland was on point with Matt Canada holding down second. Behind them both Boucher and Davis were moving toward the front.
A spin and caution slowed things and a single file restart was used. Soon after the restart Boucher and Davis took over the first two positions.
The next caution came after Davis spun so he had to start at the back again. Now Boucher was on point followed by Canada and Hovland in third.
At the end Boucher scored the victory while Davis retook second dropping Canada to third with Hovland ending up fourth.
There were so many IMCA Modifieds it took five heats to set the field. On the green 22 drivers charged into Turn 1 with Jeff Chew in the lead.
Then the wheels came off as seven tangled in Turn 3. After that there were six more cautions as the race itself had a start-and-stop effect.
In fact the final two cautions came within a lap of each other. Up front Jeffrey Hudson had taken the lead and was chased by Ryan McDaniel, Chris Nieman, Riley Simmons and Wade Kennemore.
Usually there’s a 20-minute time limit but this feature ran for 30 minutes. Hudson reached the checkered flag first with McDaniel second followed by Nieman and Simmons.
Next up were the Northern Sportmods and on their first green Ray Talevera and Ray Ballard were on the front row. There was a quick caution then another after Mike Ficklin Jr. went over the Turn4 banking but he soon returned to the track.
Now Cole Olexiewica was on point while Talevera had faded. The race itself had a total of seven cautions including a brief red flag to allow the track crew to get a car moved.
Up front Olexiewica was in command and won the race. Bryson Simeral was the runner up followed by Colton Chew and fourth place Ballard.
When the IMCA Stock Cars got the green to start their main 14 cars charged down the front straight. Up front Craig Nieman and George Markle led the charge. The race was originally slated for 15-laps but there were eight cautions as well as a brief red flag during that time.
Up front Nieman and Simmons had a several lap duel for the lead with one using the outside line and the other the inside. In the end Simmons prevailed and took the victory while Jeff Oschowka ended up second. Nieman ended up third ahead of fourth place Kennemore.
Finally the Street Stocks were up for their main. On the front row were the Goetz Racing teammates Royce Goetz and Carl Barlow.
It would take two starts to get the race rolling but Goetz spun coming out of Turn 2. Now Barlow was in the lead then a four-car tangle in Turn 3 stopped everything.
The official put out the red flag until they could get all four cars onto the infield. When the green waved again Barlow led the charge but this time he was chased by Jacob Dias.
Eventually Dias took the lead with Barlow close behind. Back in the pack Goetz was working his way toward the front. With three to go there was another caution.
On the restart Dias led the charge and would cross the finish with Barlow right behind him while Goetz had worked his way back to third.
After the race Goetz, who clinched the class championship, took a lap with a checkered flag around the track. As he finished the field for the demolition derby was coming onto the track.
The Demo Derby ended the night with the crowd cheering. Now the track is dark until the Saturday/Sunday Halloween Trick-Or-Treat races that ends the year.

• Today Lovelock Speedway announced there are no Frontier Day races this year. They are working on getting the track going for the 2023 season.
