RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 4 TO 7

RENO, NV (August 3) — This is the week many wait for all year as its Hot August Nights. This brings to Northwest Nevada a 10-day celebration of cars and all things related as well as a host of entertainment.

This week the streets of Reno and Sparks are filled with cars, like this one, either on display or cruising.

The streets as well as casino parking lots will be full of cars from years gone by. Not to mention nightly cruises along Virginia Street in downtown Reno as well as Sparks.

On the Nugget’s west parking lot there is a short dragstrip. It’s for very short runs or burn outs like this driver is doing.

Over in Sparks, on the west parking lot of the Nugget there is a very short dragstrip. Great for doing burnouts and the real race, since the course is so short, is reaction time.

On Thursday on the east parking lot of the Nugget, on Victorian, is the annual Women With Wheelz car show. It’s open to registered cars owned by women.

Victorian is also the scene of a nightly cruise where many cars go rolling past great crowds. There is also a nightly cruise in downtown Reno. Parking lots of the Grand Sierra, which has the biggest display, the Peppermill and Atlantis are full of cars either on display or cruising through.

It’s a huge celebration of cars and most of the local cruises are off for the week.  The daily schedule can be found at www.hotaugustnights.net. Then on Sunday when awards are handed out and HAN has its traditional festival ending parade things get back to normal.
