RACING PREVIEW: OCTOBER 6 TO 9

RENO, NV (Oct. 5) — As we head into October there are a bunch of car swap meets. The oval track season in Northern Nevada is shutting down but there is one more weekend to go at the Susanville track.

 Over on TV Land major series are heading into their final weeks. The last weekend is where the champions will be crowned.  Still much to see and do as we get closer to the holidays. 

CAR MEETS:

• Saturday gets going at Baldini’s Casino when Hot August Nights has its Fall Frenzy and Coat Driver. Hours are 9 until 2 p.m. and if one has a coat they can donate could help out someone less fortunate. 

The Fernley Klassic Kruizers have a big show planned for Saturday in Fallon.

• That same afternoon, Fernley Klazzic Kruizers has the 2022 Gunslinger Cruise, Show & Shine. Hours are from 9 until 3 p.m. at the Churchill County Fairgrounds. Awards will be given out as well as the Fastest Gun Alive Competition. 

There is a Show ‘N Shine in downtown Fallon to benefit the theater there.

• In downtown Fallon, from 10 until 3 p.m., is the Show ‘N Shine and Swap Meet. Location is 71 S. Main Street and this show benefits the Fallon Theater. When that ends its time to head for Rattlesnake Raceway and the Dirt Track Championships. 

• Sparks Cars & Coffee should have its first of the month meet Sunday, starting around 10 a.m. by the Disc Driver Starbucks. Should be great fall weather for the meet. 

The final Brunch ‘N Classics Cruise in is that Sunday at Baldini’s Casino.

• On Sunday from 11 until 1 p.m. Northern Nevada Classics are hosting the grand finale Brunch ‘N Classics at Baldini’s Casino. All clubs and independents are welcome and there will be trophies, a 50/50 raffle as well as a gift card drawing.

• To the south on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m., is when Carson Cars & Coffee has its next meet. The title is “Woke up Spooky, Drink Some Coffee.” Location is 3300 Lincoln Highway, US Highway 50 in Carson City. 

RACING (REGIONAL):

Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon ends Northern Nevada’s oval track season this weekend. It’s the 36th annual Dirt Track Championships.

• This weekend is the 36th annual Dirt Track Championships at Rattlesnake Raceway. This two-day annuals show closes the oval track season for Northern Nevada. 

There are two complete show with a driver’s combined finishes determining their final position in the championship. For further information please check out, www.rattlesnakeraceway.org

This weekend go kart racers from across the west will be at Desert Park Raceway. The Northern Nevada Kart Club is hosting the IKF Grand Nationals.

• For area go kart racers and those from across the west the next four days are huge. The International Kart Federation is holding its grand national event at Desert Park Raceway. The event was last here in 2009.

There is open practice on Thursday and after that the event begins. For further information please check, www.nnkcreno.com

For sport car racers this weekend is a track day at Sonoma Raceway.

• For you Sports Car racers Sonoma Raceway, formerly Sears Point, is having a track day Saturday. Here’s a chance for some track time on this famous facility. The website for Northern Nevada Racing Club is www.americanracingclub.com

RACE & PRACTICE (Motocross):

This weekend the Old Timer’s Club is hosting Round 9 of the 2022 BBMX season. They will be at Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway.

• The track at Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway is closed for practice on Thursday. There will be practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday then Sunday is race day as BBMX hosts Round 9 of it season there. 

• Riverfront MX will have several practice sessions. On Thursday times are 5 until 10 p.m. then 9 until 2 Sunday on the main, vintage and kids tracks. The track is available for rental on Saturday. 

• Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. • E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 Saturday and Sunday. Both the front and back tracks are available. 

MMX Racing is hosting the final round of this year’s 2022 Pro MX Fall Series this weekend.

• MMX Racing is hosting the final round of the 2022 Pro MX Fall Series on Sunday. Online registration is open now and the weather should be great. 

RACING (GENERAL):

Legacy Racing is staging an off road race this weekend outside of Cedar City, Utah.

• To the east the Legacy Racing Association is staging the Dirt Rebelution off road races at Cedar City, Utah. For further information please check their website. 

• On Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30. Later at 7:55 p.m. ESPN News has Formula 1 practice from Suzuka, Japan. Then at 10:55 p.m. ESPN2 has another practice session. 

• Friday is another day to catch up with races one may have missed. Many highlight shows can be found on www.youtube.com. And at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 will have another NASCAR Race Hub show. 

      Later at  10:55 p.m. ESPN 2 will show Formula 1 qualifying from Japan. 

• Saturday gets rolling at noon when NBC has the Xfinity race from Charlotte on the Roval. Then at 1 p.m. www.mavtv.com has ARCA racing from Toledo, Ohio.

A little later at 9:55 p.m. ESPN has the Formula 1 race from Japan. 

• Sunday at 11 a.m. NBC has the NASCAR Cup race from Charlotte. They’ll be racing on the “Roval,” which is partially on the oval and infield road course.

Sometimes this gets kind of crazy as they go from the oval onto the road course where they turn right and left. It’s another elimination race in the Chase. 

That’s it for this weekend folks. Should be great weather so please get out to one of the car meets or to a live race. There is nothing like being at a live race for speed, color and excitement.
