RACING PREVIEW: OCTOBER 20 TO 23

RENO, NV (Oct. 19) — Fifth weekend of the month so things are a bit slim but there are a few things to see. Over the hill there are practice sessions, two races as well as a bunch on TV.

CAR MEETS:

• This Saturday the Nevada Jeep Club hosts its Fall Flex @ Bronco Canyon. Meeting is 3090 Bull Rider Drive in Reno. From there everyone convoys out to the starting spot by Lockwood and enjoys about six or seven hours of off-roading.

• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee has another meet. Meeting place is by the Starbucks located at 171 Disc Drive. Will be a bit cooler but there should be a group of cars on display. Not to mention hot chocolate inside the Starbucks.

RACING & DRIFTING (4-WHEEL):

Battle Born Motorsports hosts a drifting event this weekend. It’s Maximum Overdrive 4 on the road course located at Fernley 95A Speedway.

• This weekend Battle Born Motorsports hosts Maximum Overdrive #4. Location is the road course located at the Fernley 95A Speedway.

Just use the regular entrance road, follow it past the oval and parking areas. Things usually get going around 8 a.m. with a 9:30 driver’s meeting. And the day runs until 5 p.m. so should be good for many runs on the road course.

PRACTICE & RACING (MOTOCROSS):

There will be no practice this weekend on the motocross track. Next week, starting Friday there will be practice sessions. Photo courtesy – Fernley ninetyfivea Speedway.

• Since Battle Born MX racing this weekend there will be no practice sessions on the Motocross track at Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway. Those sessions resume when the track reopens on Friday, the 28th of October.

• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

Prairie City will be a busy place this weekend. On Saturday gates open at 8 a.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. there are practice sessions.

Sunday is race day as Round 10 of the Battle Born MX series will be there. Gates open at 6:30 a.m., practice at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.

  • For those that want a head start on-line registration is open now. Should save some time when arriving at the track.

• This is also a race weekend as the 2022 Triple Crown has a Friday through Sunday show. Location is at the Argyll MX track.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday gets going at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 2 airs NHRA in 30.

• Friday starts on www.espn3.com at 11 a.m. when they air the Formula 1 Show from Austin, Texas. This weekend the series visits the Circuit of the Americas.

Then at 11:55 a.m. ESPN2 has the first Formula 1 practice followed at 3:55 p.m. when espn3.com has the second practice session.

• Saturday gets rolling at 7 a.m. when NBC Sports NASCAR Cup qualifying from Homestead-Miami. With only this race before the final its all important for those wanting to be in the final four.

  • At 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Camping World Truck series then at 1:30 a.m. the USA Network airs the Xfinity as both series race at Homestead-Miami.
  • Later at 2:55 p.m. espn news has Formula 1 Qualifying from the Circuit of the Americas or COTA as it’s also known by.

• Sunday gets rolling at 10:30 a.m. when CNBC broadcasts the MotoGP event from Malaysia. These can be wild races and one can see the highlights on www.youtube.com if they can’t see it live.

  • NBC gets going at 11:30 when the network airs the NASCAR Cup event from Homestead-Miami. One again every point is critical for any driver or team wanting to make the final race in Phoenix. That race determines which driver will win the 2022 championship and NASCAR Cup.

That’s it for this weekend. Looks like fall will arrive but if one has a chance try and get out to a race, the drifting event or the car meet.
