CHRISTMAS DAY AND A LOOK AHEAD

RENO, NV (Dec. 25) — It’s a nice Christmas Day here in the Reno area. While there were no car meets or racing this day means green flags soon will be waving and motocross gates droping as racing is about to start.

This time we’ll focus on 4-wheel racing. In Thursday’s preview I’ll look into what is coming with motocross.

RACING (INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL):

Dakar Rally begins on New Year’s Eve and runs through January 15. It’s an ultimate test of man, woman and machine. Graphic courtesy – dakar.com.

• With no car meets on tap for Christmas Sunday let’s look at the very first race of the New Year. It’s actually a huge international off-road rally and starts on New Year’s Eve. This is the annual Dakar Rally that has about everything in it from motorcycles to huge trucks, usually from Russia of all places.

– Once again the entire event is in Saudi Arabia and hopefully You Tube or a network will have highlights from the day’s races. The event website is www.dakar.com.

Both the Stockton Dirt Track and Antioch Speedway will host races New Year’s weekend. graphic courtesy – speeduniontv.com.

• For something more local that one can either attend or view on the Internet there are two oval track racing this coming weekend. And both can be seen at www.speeduniontv.com. In addition both tracks have Face Book pages.

  • On Saturday, New Year’s Eve, the Stockton Dirt Track will have a full race card for the track’s fans.
  • Racing starts in the afternoon. As a special fan appreciation incentive admission is only $10 for all age groups. For further information please check the track’s website at www.stocktondirttrack.com.
  • On New Year’s Day the Antioch Speedway is also having racing with a full card. While they did not post the starting time I’m guessing it too will be an afternoon event but racing might not start until 5 p.m.
  • For further information please check the track’s website at www.antiochspeedway.com. They like Stockton are also on Face Book.
The annual Chili Bowl is a huge midget event and its all indoors. Poster courtesy – chilibowl.com.

• Next up, from January 9 to 14 are the annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals held at the Tulsa Expo Raceway. As of Christmas day there were 355 entries for this indoor event.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• I should note all the tracks listed have Face Book pages, in fact for one of them that’s the only way to contact or see what is happening. So we’ll go from east to west with this look ahead.

Here is the 2023 schedule for Summit Raceway in Elko.

• We’ll start in the east with Summit Raceway in Elko. Their first races are on April 14 and 15, a Friday Saturday show and the final race, September 15 and 16, is the Gold Rush. For more information please check their Face Book page or website at www.summitracewayelko.com.

Battle Mountain Raceway’s schedule for 2023 has been set.

• Moving to the west next is Battle Mountain Raceway. They get going on May 19 and 20 with another Friday and Saturday show.

The last race is September 22,23,24 the three-day Silver Cup races. They have a Face Book page and the track’s website is www.battlemountainraceway.org.

• This year Winnemucca Regional Raceway had a change of promoters. Everything got organized and there will be a 2023 season. Racing begins on April 28 and 29 with a two-day show.

With a new promoter and board ready to go Winnemucca Regional Raceway is ready for 2023.

The big race is June 9 and 10, which is the High Desert Classic and the season ends on September 29 and 30. Again there is a Face Book page and the website is, www.winnemuccaracing.com.

• Next is the Lovelock that has been brought back to life. They start the season with a Play Day on March 25, probably good as much clay has been added to the surface.

First race is on April 15 with the Berta Graham Memorial. There are two more one-day shows, July 8th and on September 9th the closes out the season.

With new clay Lovelock Speedway has been brought back to life.

The biggest event is August 4 and 5 when they help the town celebrate its founding with Frontier Days. The speedway doesn’t not have a website right now so best way to check them is on their Face Book page at Lovelock Speedway Nevada.

• Now we journey south to the Tonopah Speedway. They also are going with IMCA sanction Sport Mods and A Mods.

The season begins on May 27 with the annual Jim Butler Days event. After that there are several one-day events and the season ends on September 9. For further information please check the track’s Face Book page or website at www.tonopahspeedway.net.

• Finally we move north to Rattlesnake Raceway. They have two-day shows on Friday and Saturday with the annual 4th of July event being a Monday-Tuesday event.

Rattlesnake Raceway has its 2023 schedule set. That includes the 4th of July races that will be on a Monday and Tuesday.

The track has the town’s fireworks show on the 4th. Rattlesnake ends its season on October 6 and 7th, which is a Saturday night and Sunday afternoon show. This is the Dirt Track Championships that closes out the oval track season in Northern Nevada.

The track has two Face Book pages, one for the track and a forum one and the website is www.rattlesnakeraceway.org.

• Over in California the folks at Diamond Mountain Speedway are waiting for the Lassen County Fair Board to create a schedule. We’ll let you know as soon as we do.

• American Valley Speedway in Quincy, California also hasn’t published a schedule either. Since they usually cooperate with Diamond Mountain once that track’s schedule is known then both will probably post their 2023 schedules.

• Currently there is no word on the oval at Fernley 95A Motor Sport Complex. The track needs a little more work so hopefully the owner and crew can get it finished since there are more than a few wanting to race on that oval.

That’s it for this time. Focused on oval tracks plus a national and international event. This Thursday’s preview article I’ll focus on the upcoming motocross events that will be on TV and in this region.

Until then hope everyone had a safe and great Christmas. Next week more racing and we finally begin to end out annual visit to the Re-Run Zone. Take care everyone.
