NEW YEAR: NEW CLUB’S FIRST MEET

RENO, NV (Jan 1) — While a New Year’s storm made traveling a challenge for one new club it was the doctor ordered.

The meeting place for the new Reno Jeeps & Coffee is the Human Bean Coffee Stand at the corner of South McCarren and Longely.

The newly formed Reno Jeeps and Coffee had its first meeting by the Human Bean Coffee Stand located at the corner of Longley and South McCarran. For these folks snow and ice was no problem.

Heading the group is Charles Doyle, who also created Sparks Cars & Coffee but has a long history of being involved in Jeep events.

“I’m the executive producer for Reno Jeep Festival and Sparks Cars and Coffee.,” he said. “I’ll be producing 36 shows this year.”

Charles Doyle stands with his girl friend Adrianne by a Jeep he built for her. Doyle heads this group and the Sparks Cars & Coffee group.

Asked about the schedule of meets Doyle said, “This will be on the first Sunday of the month while Sparks Cars & Coffee is the second and fourth. We’re opposite Lance’s show but we all work together here to create these shows and I’ve produced over 180 car shows over 20 years.”

Doyle did bring a Jeep to the meet and he explained what it was.

“This is our seventh Jeep. I actually built this one for my girl friend Adrianne as it’s her first Jeep,” he said. “The 97 to 01 have the same drive train and interior as the Jeep Wrangler. This is a 98 and its got a LCG, Low Center of Gravity Lift that’s three and a half inches and running stock 33’s (tires) on the New Gladiator wheels.”

Doyle explained he produced the Jeep Festival 20 years ago and a lot has happened since then. He also has plans for the future as well as doing trail maintenance.

“My goal here is, we want to build a compound here in Reno that’s a licensed dispatch and we can support the community based search and rescue efforts that go on year round,” he said. “We’re supporting the community based efforts and not trying to replace what is already in here.”

This was the longest line of Jeeps at the meet although others were still arriving.

The turn out, considering the weather was pretty good actually. There was a long line of Jeeps on one side of the parking lot that had been plowed.

Parking was in an “L” shape with another shorter line. That’s where Julia Lynn had her Jeep parked.

Julia Lynn stands by her Jeep that she’s had modified.

“It is my Jeep, it’s a 2015 JKU, we bought it completely stock and I’ve done all the modifications to it,” she said. “Put a 2 and half inch Metal Cloak game changer lift, upgraded steering system, have 35 inch tires with Mickey Thompson wheels and tires.

“Has full Metal Fab work bumpers, and I just put Bush Wacker Fenders on it Christmas Day. I love it as it’s lots of fun, I’ve met great people Jeeping, and it’s been a great second season of life for me.”

This was the shortest line of Jeeps at the meet.

All, considering the morning road conditions and cool temperature everyone was having a good time.

• Unfortunately, due to the road conditions, only a very few attended the Reno Cars & Coffee meet. Actually many of the cars that usually show up are only driven in good weather.

Next Sunday Sparks Cars and Coffee has its first meet of 2023. As usual it begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday by the Starbucks off Disc Drive.
