RENO, NV (Jan.4) — Here we are in the New Year and racing is taking off again. More car meets plus racing on the Internet although TV is still mired in the Re-Run Zone.
CAR MEETS:
• Nevada Jeep Club gets Saturday afternoon rolling with their 2nd Annual Wine, Women & Jeeps function. Starts at 2 p.m. and the location is Whispering Vine Win at 85 Foothill Road in Reno. The women that arrive early are supposed to get a rose.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee is scheduled to have a meet Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. by the Starbucks off Disc Drive. Nice thing is that if its cold Starbucks has some great hot chocolate.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• Big news for this weekend is the start of the 2023 Supercross series. It’s time for Anaheim 1 and the USA and Peacock networks, starting at 7 p.m., will show the races live.
For highlights, usually a day after the event, www.youtube.com has posts and might even show an entire moto.
• Locally, with a storm scheduled to arrive it appears that the motocross track at Fernley Ninetyfivea Motorsports Complex will remain closed.
• Weather is going to impact Northern California tracks but on Sunday the Argyll track is scheduled to host round 1 of this year’s Frigid 7 series. Have to see what happens.
• Riverfront MX is closed due to flooding caused by water releases from a nearby dam. I’m guessing the storm will also cause Prairie City to be closed as well.
• E Street MX Park will also be impacted so have to see what happens there. In fact they said it all depends on the weather.
• When this was posted there was no word from MMX Racing but again the incoming rain will probably have a huge effect. In fact they were closed Wednesday due to the rain.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• The Dakar Rally is still running through Saturday and goes until January 15th. Peacock is showing the rounds on a slightly delayed basis. On Thursday their broadcast is at 3:30 p.m. then on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. there is another program on CNBC.
On Sunday two rounds are shown on CNBC starting at 8 a.m. It’s quiet a test of rider/driver and machine.
• Another series of races are the Winter Nationals at Cocopah Speedway in Arizona. This event is happening now and runs through the 14th and can be seen on www.imsa.tv.

• On Monday the annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals starts in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The event runs through the 14th and can be seen live on www.floracing.com.
