RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 16 TO 19

RENO, NV  (March 15) — Finally a break in the weather, what a great time for the area motocross season to start. There are also some weather related changes in the schedules for several oval tracks.

CAR MEETS:

• This Sunday, from 10 a.m. until noon, Reno Cars & Coffee is having its second meet of the month. If the weather holds should be a good turn out and the location is the Human Bean coffee stand by the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.

RACING (4 WHEELS):

• The wet weather over the past months has thrown a wrench into the test and tune (Play Day) schedules for area tracks. All sessions listed start at 10 a.m.

  • Lovelock Speedway will have it’s Play Day on Saturday, March 25 while Rattlesnake Raceway has switched its Test N’ Tune session to Sunday, March 26.

  • To the north Diamond Mountain Speedway, which has been flooded has moved its session to Saturday, April 1.

-When this was posted there still is no 2023 schedule for American Valley Speedway in East Quincy, California. Hopefully they will have one soon.

NNKC is having a swap meet on Saturday, March 18.

• Northern Nevada Kart Club is having a swap meet this Saturday starting at 9 a.m. Location is 199 East Moana Lane in Reno.

Monster Trucks will be in Winnemucca this Friday and Saturday.

• Friday and Saturday Bianchi’s in Winnemucca will be presenting Monster Trucks. There is a pit party starting at 4:30 then show time starts at 7 p.m. each night.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

BBMX begins its 2023 season this weekend in Winnemucca.

This weekend is when area motocross begins as BBMX has the first round of its 2023 series. Local host is Winnemucca MX and the track is located right next to the speedway. Saturday is for practice and racing should start around 9 a.m. Sunday.

• Fernley 95A Speedway motocross track will have practice sessions this weekend. Times are 9 until 2 p.m. and Ty is currently building bigger jumps.

• Currently the fifth round of the P.R.O. Frigid 7 series is postponed. However the folks at E Street MX Park are watching the river level drop.

They are hoping they can actually run the race on Sunday. So on Thursday check their Face Book page as they hope to have an answer.

• According to REP MX Prairie City is still closed. Riverfront MX will have practice from 4 until 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and there are new areas added.

• MMX Racing is planning on having practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• There is a lot of racing this weekend and two different series are at Sebring, Florida. At 3:20 p.m. Thursday www.motortrendondemand.com has qualifying for the FIA World Endurance Championship 1000 miles of Sebring.

  • Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. At 6 p.m. www.mavtv.com has a Trans Am race.
  • Over at www.imsa.tv they air two Porsche Carrera Cup races from Sebring. The first is at 6:10 a.m. while it’s a 2:30 p.m. start for the second.

• Friday begins at 6:10 a.m. when imsa.tv has IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car qualifying at Sebring this is followed at 8:30 a.m. when motortrendondemand has the 1,000 miles of Sebring.

• Saturday is when the IMSA Weather Tech Sports Cars start the annual 12-hours of Sebring. Peacock begins airing it at 7:05 a.m. then at 1:30 p.m. the USA network follows it to the end.

  • Over on Fox Sports 1 at 8:30 a.m. they have NASCAR Cup qualifying from Atlanta. At 10:55 a.m. ESPN News broadcasts Formula 1 qualifying from Saudi Arabia.
  • Then at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the Craftsman Truck race from Atlanta. And at 2 p.m. the network broadcasts the Xfinity race from Atlanta.

  • This week’s round of the AMA Supercross is in Detroit and at 4 p.m. the Peacock network has all the racing action. No time was given but earlier they usually air the prerace edition.

• Sunday begins at 10:55 when ESPN broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Saudi Arabia. Be interesting to see just who wins this one.

  • Finally the weekend ends when Fox, at noon, broadcast the NASCAR Cup race from Atlanta. This track is one of the fastest on the circuit so it might be an action packed race.

Although he’s missed the last few weeks Daveys American Racing will begin its weekly schedule this coming week. He covers the western track as well as local and national series.

Next Wednesday Daveys American Racing should return to Face Book on a regular basis.

The show can be seen is at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings on Face Book. Davey is also going to be back in the announcer’s booth at Rattlesnake Raceway as well as Top Gun Drag Strip this season.
