RACING PREVIEW: APRIL 27 TO 30

RENO, NV (April 26) — Another spring weekend ahead with a major event in this region plus one more oval track opening it season. There is also a bunch of racing on TV and the Internet.

CAR MEETS:

Nevada Jeep Club is teaming up with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful for clean ups this weekend.

• Nevada Jeep Club is teaming up with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful to help clean up a couple of areas this Saturday. They need folks with 4X4 vehicles and it’s an 8 a.m. start time.

There are two options and the signups are at:

• Being it’s the fifth weekend of the month most Cars & Coffee groups don’t have meets at this time but things will get rolling next weekend.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Winnemucca Regional Raceway starts its 2023 season with a Friday-Saturday show.

• Winnemucca Regional Raceway starts it’s 2023 season with a Friday-Saturday show. I believe that 6 p.m. is the start time each day.

Rattlesnake Raceway begins its 2023 season with a Friday-Saturday show.

• Another track opening its season is Rattlesnake Raceway, located just a few miles east of downtown. They are having a two-day show to get the racing year going.

• Over in Quincy the American Valley Speedway is having a play day before it’s opening date in May. Things get going around 10 a.m. and it will be great weather over there.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLE):

Virginia City Grand Prix is this coming weekend. Two days of racing on the Comstock.

• The biggest event this weekend is the 52nd Annual Virginia Grand Prix. Thing begin on C Street, by the Bucket of Blood, as riders begins to line up for the 10 a.m. start.

– These are timed races and since riders are in separate lines their finishes are on corrected time. On Saturday the checkered is displayed four hours after the green is waved. Best bet is to get there early as parking can be scarce that day.

Things get going on Friday with motorcycle barrel races at the fairgrounds.
  • This time the action actually begins on Friday. At the fairground there will be barrel racing on motorcycles.
After the pros and experts race Saturday the younger racers have their own event at the fairgrounds.

– After the pros and experts race Saturday at 4 p.m. there is the Moto Mouth Mini Grand Prix for the youngsters. This race is at the fairground.

  • Sunday is when the Amateurs, Novice, Women and other classes race. Their event is a three-hour timed race so three hours after the green waved the checkered is flown and again a rider’s final position is based on their corrected times.
There will be practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the motocross track at Fernley Ninetyfivea.

• Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway will have practice on the motocross track from 9 until 2 p.m. both Saturday and Saturday.

There will be practice Saturday and Sunday on the front and back tracks.

• E Street MX Park has practice on the front and back tracks from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Riverfront MX has an evening schedule and on Thursday the practice times are from 5 until 10 p.m. Friday, which has practice at the same time but it’s for Minis so only 50cc to 85cc bikes and Saturday from 5 until 10 p.m. is for open practice.

• Prairie City MX is hosting an OTHG National round. Friday from 9 until 2 is practice for only racers. Saturday and Sunday are race days and the gates open at 6:30 a.m.

•MMX should have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Fox Sports at 3 p.m. has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 5:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 broadcasts NHRA in 30.

• Friday starts at 7:50 a.m. on www.motortrendondemand.com when they show qualifying from the FIA World Endurance Championships at the classic Spa-Francochamps track.

  • At 12:05 a.m. www.ESPN3.com will show Formula 2 practice at Azerbaijan. Then at 2:25 a.m.EspnU shows Formula 1 practice.
  • Then at 4 a.m. ESPN 3 has Formula 2 qualifying and at 5:55 a.m. ESPNU has Formula 1 qualifying.
  • At noon Fox Sports 1 shows Xfinity practice and qualifying at Dover. And at 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from Charlotte.

• Saturday begins at 3:15 a.m. when www.motortrendondemand.com air the 6 Hours of Spa-Francochamps. Then at 4 a.m. ESPN 3 has the Formula 2 sprint race and at 6:25 a.m. ESPN has the Formula 1 sprint as the series visits Azerbaijan.

  • At 6:30 a.m. Peacock starts Raceday Live from the AMA Supercross event. At 8 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Cup qualifying from Dover followed at 10:30 with Xfinity race from Dover.
  • At noon Peacock switches to the Indy Car Practice from Barber Motorsports Park.

  • Then at noon NBC airs the current round of the AMA Supercross series from Nashville. Hopefully it won’t be a mud fest like last week.

• Sunday begins at 3:55 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Azerbaijan and at 9 a.m. Fox Sports has the NHRA Qualifying show #2 from Charlotte.

  • Fox Sports, starting at 11 a.m., has the NASCAR Cup race from Dover. At that same time CNBC, on a delayed basis, has the MotoGp race from Jerez, Spain.
  • At 12:30 p.m. NBC airs the Indy Car Race from Barber Motorsports Park.

– The day ends at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the finals from the 4-Wide NHRA National at Charlotte, North Carolina.

• On the weekend of May 11-13 the 10th annual Dave Richardson and Leroy Key Memorial will be run. It’s the WSDCA National so should be a lot of cars. Registration is open and I’m attaching one of the forms.

Early season registration is still open for the Northern Nevada Kart Club.

Early registration, with a bonus of a free race, is still open for the start of Northern Nevada Kart Club’s 2023 season.

Daveys Amercian Racing is usually on at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.

Daveys American Racing is usually on at 6 p.m. every Wednesday on Face Book.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
