RACING PREVIEW: MAY 25 TO 28

RENO, NV (May 24) — This is probably the biggest racing weekend of the year. In addition there is racing as well as car meets in our region. The buffet table is overflowing and Mother Nature is going to bless us with good weather.

CAR MEETS:

This week is the first of 10 Thursday Cruznites.

• The weekend gets rolling as the first of 10 Thursday Cruznites gets going. It’s easy to get to as one goes north on 395 then turns west on Highway 70.

The location is the Chilcoot Frosty & Goodwins General Store. There will be trophies and a nice way to start this long weekend.

Friday is the next Summit Racing Cruise Nights.

• Friday, starting at 4 p.m. is the next Summit Racing Cruise Night. The store is located on East Glendale Avenue in Sparks and there will be trophies.

Auto Motion Cars & Coffee is having a meet Saturday morning.

• Saturday gets rolling at 9 a.m. when Auto Motion has a Cars ‘N’ Coffee Car show. The times are 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. and the location is at 225 Telegraph Street in Reno.

On Saturday Bullys Bar and Grill in Carson City is having an all Chevy Show & Shine.

• Bully’s Sports Bar & Grill in Carson City hosts the 1st Annual Bow Tie Show & Shine. The function runs from 10 a.m.to3 p.m. and includes any and all types of Chevrolets.

• Things slow down on Sunday when Sparks Cars & Coffee hosts its next meet. Things get rolling at 10 a.m. and the location is by the Starbucks located on Disc Drive.

On Sunday Genoa Lakes Golf Course is the site of a Rare & Exotics Car Show.

• To the south on Sunday is the Rare & Exotics Car Show at the Genoa Lakes Golf Course. The show runs from 2 until 6 p.m. and benefits the Eagle Valley Children’s Home.

RACING (4-Wheel, REGIONAL):

Summit Raceway outside of Elko will have racing this Friday and Saturday.

• To the east Summit Raceway,  located just outside of  Elko, is having Friday-Saturday racing. Gates open at 3 p.m. and the green flag flies at 6:30 p.m.

Rattlesnake Raceway has racing this Friday and Saturday evenings.

• Rattlesnake Raceway, located just east of downtown Fallon, is also having races both Friday and Saturday. Grand stands open at 4 p.m. Friday, racing starts at 7 p.m. and some lucky kid is going to win a bike that night.

On Saturday gates open at 3 p.m. while racing gets going at 6 p.m. There will be kids rides during the intermission and there will be a food truck in the pits as well as the concessions in the grandstand area.

The next two rounds of the Renegade Street Stock Classic series will be run at Rattlesnake Raceway this weekend.

This weekend is also the second round of the Renegade Street Stock Classic series. Should add some cars to the Street Stock races as the drivers are scoring points that will be added up after the next race out at Lovelock.

There will be two days of drifting at the 95A road course this Saturday and Sunday.

• The road course at 95A Fernley will be busy this Saturday and Sunday. It’s two days of drifting called “Hoonies in the Boonies. Club Rowdy is hosting the event so for further information please go to; www.clubrowdy.com.

RACING & PRACTICE (Motorcycles)

The next round of Fast Friday’s speedway racing this this week.

The weekend gets rolling over in Auburn with Fast Fridays speedway races at the fairgrounds. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and racing begins at 8 p.m.

The Minimoto series visits Desert Park Raceway this weekend.

• Desert Park Raceway, home track for the Northern Nevada Kart Club is having a very different event on Saturday and Sunday. It will be the first visit by the Minimoto series. Saturday is all asphalt while part of the fencing will be open as Sunday’s races are a combination of asphalt and dirt.

• This weekend Fernley Ninetyfivea Motor Sports complex has practice from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

The next round of the Pro MX Summer Sundayz series is at E Street MX this weekend.

• This Saturday at 8 a.m.  at E Street MX Park the gates open and practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday is when the second round of the 2023 Pro MX Summer Sundayz series happens.  Gates on Sunday open at 6:30 a.m. with a short practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing to follow.

The Reno OTHG chapter is hosting its national round at Riverfront MX.

• Riverfront MX is hosting a OTHG National round hosted by the Reno chapter. Gates open at 8 a.m. Friday with practice from 9 until 2 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday are race days with gates opening at 6:30 a.m., practice at 8 with racing to following.

• Prairie City is still closed until the Pro Motocross event is run in two weeks time.

MMX is hosting a District GP race this weekend.

• This is a racing weekend for MMX. Practice is from 9 until 2 on the main, sand and kids tracks.

On Sunday there is the MMX Grand Prix, or Round 1 of a District 36 series.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• On Thursday starting at 10:45 a.m. www.motortrendondemand.com has qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. It’s a classic twice around the clock event.

• Over on www.espn3.com they have three events. At 4:30 a.m. it’s Formula 2 practice then a 6 a.m. Formula 3 will practice followed at 7:30 a.m. by the Porsche Super Cup; all this from the classic course at Monaco.

  • Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

• Friday begins at 8 a.m. when Peacock has Carb Day from Indianapolis. It’s actually the final practice session for the Indy Cars until they run Sunday’s 500.

– Fox Sports 1 has two races from Charlotte. The first at 3 p.m. when ARCA Racing takes to the track followed at 5:30 p.m. when the Craftsman Truck Series races.

• Saturday begins at 6 a.m. when Motor Trend starts its broadcast of the 24 Hours or LeMans. The coverage goes until 8 a.m. Sunday after the victor celebrations are over.

  • Then at 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the Xfinity race from Charlotte. At 1 p.m. Peacock has the Pro Motocross race at Pala in Southern California.
  • Over on CBS Sports they have the GT World Challenge event from COTA, which is located outside of Austin, Texas. The races start first 2 p.m. then the second gets the green flat at 5 p.m.

• Sunday begins early at 4:30 a.m. when ABC has the Grand Prix of Monaco. The drivers have to be inch perfect on this street course that has hardly changed since it was first used in the 1920s.

  • At 8 a.m. NBC airs the running of the Indianapolis 500. It’s a high-speed event on this classic 2.5 mile track that is shaped like a rectangle.
NASCAR Cup teams face the challenge of the Coke 600 Sunday. Starts in the daytime and they race into the night.

• The weekend ends at 3 p.m. when Fox has the NASCAR Cup Coca-Cola 500. Here the drivers race into the night doing 600 miles on a 1.5 mile track so it’s a real test of endurance for the driver, car and pit crew.

Davey’s American Racing is usually on Wednesday evenings.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
