RACING PREVIEW: JUNE 1 TO 4

RENO, NV (May 31) — Another overflowing buffet of car meets, shows, regional racing was well as top line national and international racing on TV.

CAR & MOTORCYCLE MEETS:

• Weekend gets rolling when Thursday Night Cruisers get going. Start time is 5:30 p.m. but sadly the women writing the article did not mention the gathering point however it will be in Carson City.

Another nice Thursday Cruznite to Chilcoot and Ice Cream..
  • That same day is the second Thursday Cruznite where people cruise up 395, turn west on Highway 70 and end up at the Chilcoot Frosty & Goodwins General Store.
Street Vibrations Spring Rally starts on Friday and runs through the weekend.

• Friday is when Street Vibrations Spring Rally begins. Runs through the weekend. Great time for Harley, Indian and other bikers.

Fernley Friday Main Street Cruises are starting again. A sure sign summer is close.
  • Friday evening beginning at 6 p.m. is when the Fernley Main Street Cruise begins. Starts at the Wigwam, goes east, circles the round about and returns.
Lovelock’s Classic Car Fever is this weekend. Starts Friday with an ice cream social.
  • The Lovelock Street Fever, or the Classic Car Fever begins with an ice cream social starting at 6 p.m. Friday. Then the main car show, located under the trees by the courthouse, runs through the weekend and ends with a cruise.
The Reno Pizza Baron is starting Saturday cruise ins this weekend.
  • Closer to Reno the Pizza Baron on 4th Street has its first Cruise Nights. Things get going at 6 p.m. Saturday and there are food and drink specials as well as raffle prizes.
The Familia Primero Car Show is at Reno Town Mall on Saturday.
  • That morning at Reno Town Mall there is the Familia Primero car show. Starts at 11 a.m. and there is entertainment.

• Sunday begins at 10 a.m. with three car meets.

Iron Mafia is having Cars & Stripes show by Sportsman’s Warehouse on Sunday. The show benefits local veterans.

-The Iron Mafia is hosting the Cars & Stripes Classic Car Celebration. Location is by Sportsman Warehouse on Moana Lane just west of the freeway.

Sunday, by the Keitzke Starbucks Reno Cars & Coffee has it first of the month meet.
  • Also starting is the first of the month meet hosted by Reno Cars & Coffee. Usually a well attended event and location is next to the Keitzke Starbucks.
Reno Jeeps & Coffee is having a meet Sunday morning.
  • Reno Jeeps & Coffee also has a meet. Location is at the Human Bean Coffee Stand located at the corner of South McCarran and Longley Lane.

REGIONAL RACING (4-WHEEL):

• Three regional oval tracks are in action this weekend.

– Diamond Mountain Speedway, starting at 6 p.m. Friday has its regular racing show on Friday this week. Then, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, American Valley Speedway located in East Quincy had another of its regular races.

The track has a Friday-Saturday show this weekend. Outlaw karts race in the afternoon followed by thebig cars.
  • To the East the Winnemucca Regional Raceway has a two-day show on Friday and Saturday. It’s the annual High Desert Classic.

Kids karts race in the afternoon then on Friday the big cars has their driver’s meeting at 4:30 with heats beginning at 5 p.m. On Saturday, after the karts race the driver’s meeting is at 6:15 p.m. with a7 p.m. start to the racing.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

• Biggest event this week is the annual races at Hangtown. I also have it listed in the TV section.

It’s the second round of the Pro Motocross open season and many of those that raced in Supercross will be competing.

• Locally Fernley 95A Motorsports Complex has practice on the motocross track from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• I’m guessing here but Riverfront MX should have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Nothing from MMX when this was posted so would advise checking their page on Instagram.

• E Street MX Park is closed Saturday but they have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• On Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Should be interesting after last week’s rain delayed racing.

• Friday is pretty empty but at 4:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from the New England Nationals.

• Saturday begins early, at 12:30 a.m. when CBS Sports has the first Formula E race from Jakarta. Then at 6:55 a.m. ESPN has Formula 1 qualifying from Catalunya.

This weekend’s event at Hangtown is the closest to our area.
  • Starting at 1 p.m. Peacock has Race Day live from the Hangtown races. It’s the second round of the Pro Motocross open series. Then at 1 p.m. they air the races that includes both the 250 and 450 classes.
  • Over on Fox Sports at 10:30 a.m. they’ll air the Craftsman Truck Series race from Madison. Then at 1:30 p.m. the network airs the Xfinity race from Portland, Oregon.
  • At 6 p.m. Fox Sports 1 shows the NHRA Qualifying show #2 Epping. Finally www.mavtv.com at 6:30 p.m. has the delayed showing of the first MotoAmerica Superbike race from Road Atlanta.

• Sunday is a busy day again. Things start rolling early at 12:30 a.m. when CBS Sports has the second Formula E race from Jakarta.

  • ESPN comes on at 5:55 a.m. as they show the Formula 1 race from Catalunya. This is truly a globe trotting series.

– This week’s NHRA New England Nationals finals are divided and both are shown on Fox Sports 1. The first round starts at 9:30 a.m. and the second round has a 4 p.m. start time.

  • At 1230 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NASCAR Cup race from Madison at the World Wide Technology Raceway. Could be another interesting race.
  • Also at 12:30 p.m. the Peacock networks airs the Indy Car race from Detroit. After racing at Indy now the drivers will be challenged by a road course with walls.
  • Finally the day ends on mavtv when that network airs the second MotoAmerica Superbike race from Road Atlanta.

Desert Park Raceway announcement.

Due to the Pylon Racing seminar Desert Park Raceway is closed from June 4 to 9. The seminar checks pilots wanting to compete in the air races and they get a FAA  waiver allowing them to fly low at speed.

This is a special bike night at PJ&Co as the Moto Mouth Mini Team has a meet and greet there.

• This coming Wednesday at PJ&CO it’s Moto Mouth Mini Team Bike Night. There is a raffle as well as a meet and greet.

If one has a youngster that races motocross or with MRANN it’s a great time to introduce him or her to the team. Should be a great night and there will be sponsor displays.

Daveys Amercian Racing is usually on at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.

Davey’s American Racing is usually on Wednesday evenings.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
