RACING PREVIEW: JUNE 8 TO 11

RENO, NV (June 7) — Another full weekend of car meets, shows as well as oval track, go-kart and drag racing. Hopefully the weather won’t be too big of an issue.

CAR MEETS:

The American Truck Historical Society is at the Grand Sierra with a big show of trucks.

• The Grand Sierra Resort is hosting the American Truck Historical Society National Convention & Truck Show. Runs from Thursday June 8 through the 10th.

Nice cruise for ice cream.

• Thursday afternoon is when the Thursday Cruznight  for ice cream happens. Nice ride up Highway 359, then west on Highway 70 to the Chilcoot Frosty at Goodwins General Story.

Summit Racing in Sparks has a Cruise in this Friday evening.

• On Friday, starting around 4 p.m. Summit Racing in Sparks has another Friday night Cruise. There is music, raffle prizes and other things.

C&D Classic Garage has its 3rd annual car show this weekend.

• Saturday is a busy day starting at 9 a.m. when the D&C Classic Garage has the 3rd annual Show N’ Shine. Runs from 9 until 2 p.m. and location is 240 Freeport.

Obsolete Iron has a cruise in to Sprinkle Donuts.
  • Obsolete Iron has a Coffee & Chroms Cruise-in at Sprinkle Donuts. Times are 10 until noon and address is 3304 S. McCarran Blvd, unit 101.
Recycled Relics has a car show in Loyalton this weekend.
  • Over in Loyalton Recycled Relics is having a car show Saturday. I’m guessing it starts around 10 a.m.
  • Down in Silver Springs there is the Kick-Off Summer Event Car Show. Times are 11 to 6 p.m. at 6760 Highway 95A South.
Badini’s Casino is the site for entertainment and a car show put on by Victory Outreach Church.

– Victory Out Reach Church of Reno has a free concert and car show at Baldini’s Casino. The show starts at 11 a.m. and trophies are awarded at 2:30 p.m. with entertainment going on during the show.

• Sunday has two very different car shows and both start at 10 a.m.

  • Sparks Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month by the Starbucks located off Disc Drive in Sparks. Times are from 10 until noon and there is usually a nice mix of cars.
VDUB Hub is having a VW car show this Sunday.
  • The VDUB Hub of Northern Nevada is hosting Summer Fest on Sunday. All years are welcome and there are raffle prizes, 50/50 and music. Location is South Virginia Plaza at 1553 South Virginia Street.

RACING (4-WHEEL REGIONAL):

• This weekend is Octane Fest at Rattlesnake Raceway, located just off Highway 50 east of downtown Fallon.

Friday and Saturday are Octane Fest at Rattlesnake Raceway.

  • Friday races start at 7 p.m. and features timed Tough Trucks, Trailer Races and Car Soccer.
  • Saturday night racing begins at 6 p.m. in addition to the regular classes there are Tough Trucks, Demo Derby and a Kids Power Wheels Demo Derby.
Top Gun Dragstrip hosts the NHRA Pacific Nationals this weekend.

• Top Gun Drag Strip host the Pacific National Open Drag Races this weekend. Friday is test and tune and the NHRA competition runs Saturday and Sunday.

The Northern Nevada Kart Club is racing Sunday at Desert Park Raceway.
  • Sunday, starting around 10 a.m. is when the Northern Nevada Kart Club stages its next race. The club will also host Race 2 of the Gold Rush Race Series.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES:

Bishop, California is the site for this weekend’s Motorcycle Jamboree.

• Down in Bridgeport, California this is the weekend for the Motorcycle Jamboree. The events runs from Friday through Sunday.

The motocross track here has practice on Saturday and Sunday.

• The motocross track at Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway will have practice from 8 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Prairie City has a Loretta Lynn Regional qualifier this weekend. On Friday gates at 6:30 a.m. and from 9 until 2 p.m. practice.

Saturday gates at 6:30 with an 8:30 a.m. start to racing. Sunday has the same schedule.

• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 untill 2 p.m. Sunday

• E Street MX has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

MMX hosts vintage motocross racing this weekend.

• MMX is hosting an AHRMA NW Motion Pro Regional Vintage MX event Sunday. On Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. there will be practice.

Sunday rider’s meeting at 8 a.m. followed by a short practice session then at 9:15 the races begin. After that support classes and Sierra Old Timers will race.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday, at 3 p.m. is when Fox Sport 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

• Friday at 4 p.m. Fox Sports has NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from Bristol or Thunder Valley. This is  the second weekend of a NHRA double header.

• Saturday starts at 6 a.m. when www.motortrendondemand.com begins its coverage of this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Coverage goes all the way into Sunday.

  • Peacock carries this week’s round at Thunder Valley. Race Day live starts at 9 a.m. while the races begin at noon.
  • At 5 p.m. Fox Sports airs the Xfinity race from Sonoma Raceway.

• Sunday continues with coverage of the24 Hours of Le Mans. Motor Trend is broadcasting the race and at 7 a.m. their coverage ends with the victory celebrations.

  • Fox Sports 1 at 9:30 a.m. has NHRA Qualifying Show #2 from Bristol. Over on CNBC, starting at 9:30 a.m., on a delayed basis, is the Motogp race from Mugello

  • At noon FOX airs the NASCAR Cup race from Sonoma Raceway. This is the closest cup race to our area and drivers are challenged by this winding, hill course.

  • The weekend ends with the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals from Bristol. It’s the second weekend of a double header for the straight-line racers.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

On line registration is open for the next BBMX round.

Registrations are open for Round 5 of this year’s BBMX series. This time it will be to the east in Elko.

Wednesday evening PJ&Co on Wells hosted a very different Bike Night. It was a meet and greet as well as a fund-raiser for the Moto Mouth Mini Team.

Mettle, Leatt and Big Valley Honda were three of the displays.

Among the displays were Mettle Brand, Leatte and Big Valley Honda.

Reno Motorsports (RMS) also had a display.

Reno Motorsport also had a display tent. Among the bikes was one that  competed in the recent Baja 500.

At the team’s display a few young riders has posters of themselves to autograph and hand out.

There was a raffle for prizes in team’s display area. In addition five of the young riders had posters of them on their motorcycles during a race. They were autographing those and handing them out to their fans.

Daveys Amercian Racing this week has had a change and will be on at 6 p.m. Thursday. His usual broadcast was delayed due to a meeting. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.

Daveys American Racint is usually on Wednesday evenings. It can be seen on Face Book but this week it comes on Thursday evening.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
