RACING PREVIEW: JULY 6 TO 9

RENO, NV (July 6) — Another summer weekend ahead of us with car meets. a special show in Sparks as well as racing. And there is a bunch on TV as well.

CAR MEETS:

The annual Rockabilly Riot has moved from Fallon to the west parking lot at the Sparks Nugger. It’s a festival.

• Starting Thursday in the west parking lot of the Sparks Nugget is the13th annual Rockabilly Riot. There are a host of things happening at this event through Saturday.

This Friday is another Fernley Main Street Cruise.

• Friday evening, starting at 6 p.m. is another Fernley Main Street Cruise. Goes from the Wigwam to the round about and back.

The annual Somersett Summer Car Show is this Saturday.

• Saturday gets off to an early start as the Sumersett Summer Car show is at the Sumersett Town Center west of Reno. Things start at 8 a.m. and there will be cars, tunes and eats.

The annual Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show is this Saturday.

• To the south in downtown Carson City on Saturday it’s the Downtown Revival Car Show. Goes from 9 until 2 p.m. and there are numerous awards handed out.

Obsolete Iron is hosting a Coffee & Chrome Cruise in.

• Obsolete Iron is hosting a Coffee & Chrome Cruise-in. Time is 10 to noon Saturday and the location is Sprinkle Donuts at 3304 S. McCarran Blvd in Reno. It’s by the Mira Loma Shopping Center in Unit 101.

Bob Bitchin Car Show is in Dayton this weekend.

• Bob’s Bitchin’ Car Show in Dayton is from 9 until 3 p.m. Saturday. The location is the East 50 Bar and it’s the 8th annual Show and Shine.

• The Reno Chapter of the SCCA is hosting the Northern Sierra Nevada Road Rally Treck, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday. Route will go up to the Tahoe area and the meeting place is Automotion at 225 Telegraph Street in Reno.

• There are two Cars & Coffee meets on Sunday and both start at 10 a.m.

  • Sparks Cars & Coffee meet by the Starbucks off of Disc Drive.
Tahoe Cars & Coffee meets in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday.

         – Want to escape the heat? Tahoe Cars & Coffee will meet at 1040 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe.

Northern Nevada Classics has their first Brunch & Classics car show at Baldini’s Casino.

• Starting at 11 a.m. the Northern Nevada Classics host their first of the season Brunch ‘N Classics car show. Location is at Baldinis Casino and it’s a cruise in.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Lovelock Speedway has racing on Saturday night.

• Lovelock Speedway will be in action Saturday night. Racing begins at 6 p.m. and the road is paved to the pits.

• American Valley Speedway, in East Quincy, California will also have racing Saturday. Starting time is 6 p.m. and the track is surrounded by trees. Use highway 70 to get there.

NNKC has its fourth race of the season at Desert Park Raceway on Sunday.

• The Northern Nevada Kart Club hosts its next round of the 2023 season on Sunday. The heat races usually begin around 9 a.m. and the mains are in the afternoon.

Desert Park Raceway is a quarter mile on the Lemmon Drive dirt extension. There is a sign at the end of the pavement.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

•Fernley Ninetyfivea Motor Sport Complex has practice sessions from 8 to1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• E Street Motocross Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Saturday is for a private rental then open practice is on the kid and vet tracks from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

• Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

• MMX has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the main, sand and kid tracks. On Sunday practice is from 9 until 3 p.m. on the main, vintage and kid tracks.

  • Sunday is race day for the Pro MX Summer Sundayz series and it’s on the sand track.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday starts at 10 a.m. when www.espn3.com has the Formula 1 Show from Silverstone, England.

  • Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub and at 6:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

• Friday is a busy day as the Formula 1 Circus has moved to the classic course at Silverstone. In fact many of the teams are actually based near there.

  • Things start on espn3 when at 12:45 a.m. they have Formula 3 practice followed at 2:05 a.m. with Formula 2 practice. Then at 4:25 a.m. on ESPNU it’s the first Formula 1 practice session.
  • ESPN 3 returns at 6:10 a.m. with Formula 3 qualifying followed at 7:05 a.m. with Formula 2 qualifying. Then at 4:25 ESPNU had Formula 1 practice.
  • Back here Fox Sports 1 has the Craftsman Trucks practice and qualifying from Mid-Ohio at 1 p.m. Then at 3 p.m. the network airs ARCA Racing from that track.

• Saturday begins early when ESPN3 at 1:20 a.m. has the Formula 3 sprint race followed at 5:15 a.m. by the Formula 2 sprint race.

  • Peacock at 7 a.m. has Race Day Live then at 10 a.m. NBC airs the Pro Motocross races from Southwick.
  • At 10:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 had the Craftsman Truck Series race from Mid Ohio then at 2:30 p.m. the USA Network has NASCAR Cup Qualifying from Atlanta.
  • At 3 p.m. www.matv.com has the first MotoAmerica Superbike race from Laguna Seca. Then at 5 p.m. the USA network airs the Xfinity race from Atlanta.

• Sunday starts at 6:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 airs the Grand Pix of Britain as the Formula 1 drivers race at the classic Silverstone track.

  • NBC at 9 a.m. broadcasts the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car race from Bowmanville. Mavtv returns at noon then at 3 p.m. with the second and third races for the MotoAmerica Super Bike series from Laguna Seca.

  • The day ends at 4 p.m. when the USA Network broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Atlanta Motor Speedway. Now the drivers are back in their oval track world.

That’s it for this weekend. Next week I’ll start writing the previews on Thursday with the goal of having them posted in the afternoon. Due to the heat over the hill I’ve been missing schedule changes for those tracks.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Due to the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival the scheduled race at Rattlesnake Raceway has been changed from August 25/26 to August 18/19.

Sign ups are open for the next round of the BBMX series.

For those racing next weekend in Round 6 of the BBMX series sign ups are now open.

Wednesday is another cruise in at the Sparks A&W.

• This coming Wednesday that is another cruise in at the Sparks A&W located across the street from Reed High School. Starts at 5 p.m. and there is D.J. Music and prizes.

Daveys American Racing is usually on at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.

Daveys American Racing should return next Wednesday. It is on Face Book at 6 p.m. Pacific Time.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
