RACING PREVIEW: JULY 20 TO 24

RENO, NV (July 20) — Another summer weekend ahead of us, one that has an oval track event plus a bunch of car events.

CAR MEETS:

The 9th Annual Send A Scout to Camp car show in in Gardnerville.

• Saturday begins at 8 a.m. at Lampe Park in Gardnerville. It’s the 9th annual “Send a Scout to Camp Car Show,” and is part of the HAN Event Series. Awards will be handed out at 3 p.m.

This Saturday the Vieiitus Car Club has a car show at Reno’s Glow Plaza.
  • Over at Reno’s Glow Plaza, at 670 4th Street. Unfortunately there was no starting time so I’ll guess around 10 a.m.
The Pizza Baron, located on West 4th Street in Reno is hosting another of it Sat Nite Cruises.
  • The Pizza Baron, from 6 until 9 p.m., is hosting another of its Saturday Cruise Nights. Location is1155 West 4th Street and there will be cars to admire as well as food and drink specials.
Saturday at Mills Park in Carson City is the 36th annual Run What Cha Brung car show.
  • Down in Carson City, at Mills Park from 8 until 4 p.m. is the 36th annual Run What Cha Brung show and shine. The event is hosted by the Karson Kruzers.

• Sunday has two events.

This Sunday Nevada Classics has the Hangin My Head Out charity cruise. Meeting place is Summit Racking on East Glendale in Sparks.
  • The Northern Nevada Classics are hosting the Hangin’ My Head Out The Window charity cruise. The event runs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and is located at Summit Racing Equipment on East Glendale in Sparks.

  • That same morning, from 10 to noon Sparks Cars & Coffee is hosting its second meet of the month. Location is the Starbucks off Disc Drive in Sparks.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

Top Gun Drag Strip is still cleaning up after being covered with mud a couple of months ago. They also need to get a new well drilled and operating.

There is a Monday concert in Fallon to benefit Top Gun Dragstrip.

To help the track there is a benefit concert Monday at 7 p.m. in the Oats Park Art Center. The show is a tribute to Johnny Cash. Should be a good show and the proceeds will help the track continue to operate.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Sunday is when Diamond Mountain Speedway has the fair races.

• This week the Lassen County Fair is going on at Susanville, California. On Sunday, starting at 4 p.m. Diamond Mountain Speedway has its fair races.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

• Fernley 95A Speedway has motocross practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Due to the heat it’s recommended riders get there early.

Saturday and Sunday the NNKC Minimoto series returns to Desert Park Raceway.

• This Saturday and Sunday the NNKC Minimoto series returns to Desert Park Raceway at Stead. Track is a quarter mile past the dirt extension of Lemmon Driver.

Saturday’s races are on the asphalt track while Sunday’s races uses a dirt section at the north end. The track is closed on July 26 for clean up.

Friday and Saturday is when the SXS series has its next round.

• Over the hill, E-Street is hosting the next round of its SXS Series. Practice is on Friday, on Saturday there is a short practice then the racing begins. There is open MX practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday.

Friday is ride day at Prairie City for the Sierra OTHG club.

• Prairie City starts the weekend on Friday, from 8 until 1 p.m. as there is a free Ride Day for Sierra OTHG. This is for members and adult riders.

The track also has open MX practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday is ride day for Sierra Old Timers. There is open practice on Sunday.

• Riverfront MX is closed Thursday then from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday the track hosts a ride day for the Sierra Old Timers chapter. On from 8 until 1 p.m. there is open practice.

MMX has practice this weekend but the vintage course won’t be available.

• MMX Racing has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. They will use the main, sand and kids tracks but this weekend won’t use the vintage one.

The Original Standard Motocross group, due to the heat, announced they canceled the July ride day but will be back in August.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. This is also a good day to check www.youtube.com for highlights of races one might have missed.

• Friday gets going at 2:35 when www.imsa.tv airs Weather Tech Sportscar qualifying from Lime Rock. Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has ARCA Racing from the Triangle or Pocono Speedway.

• Saturday starts at 9 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the Craftsman Truck Series race from Pocono. USA and Peacock team up at 9 a.m. when they air the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar race from Lime Rock.

This week Pro Motocross is at Washougal, their closest visit to our area. There wasn’t a current track map available. Track Map courtesy – vitalmx.com.
  • Peacock at 10 a.m. has Race Day live then at 1 p.m. broadcast the current round of the Pro Motocross series. This weekend they are at Washougal in Washington state.
  • Fox Sports 1 at 11 a.m. has the NHRA Qualifying Show 1 from Kent, Washington. At noon NBC airs Indy Car race #1 from Iowa. Then at 2:30 p.m. the USA network shows the Xfinity race from Pocono.

• Sunday starts at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Hungary. At 10:30 Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying show #2 from Kent. Then at 11:30 NBC airs the weekend’s second Indy Car race from Iowa.

  • The USA Network at 11:30 broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Pocono at track shaped like a large triangle and every corner is different.

  • Finally at 1 p.m. FOX has the final runs from the NHRA Northwest Nationals. The series is on its annual western swing.

Thursday is another Cruiznite to Chilcoot for ice cream. Great way to beat the heat.

Since I’m getting this posted early and it’s a hot day what better than Thursday Cruznite for ice cream. After that Frenchman’s Lake, which is full, is just a few miles away.

Daveys American Racing is usually on at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.
