RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: WATER BALLOONS AND WILD RACING

FALLON, NV (July 29) — Rattlesnake Raceway closed out the month of July with two nights of racing. Saturday’s show was action packed.

After the hot laps the Outlaw Karts took to their track. These are the next generation of drivers on the big track and are earning their racing spurs.

After that there was a driver meet-and-greet followed by a kids vs drivers water balloon battle. It was a wild affair but after that the area was cleaned up so racing could proceed.

First on the racing card were the Street Stocks. On the green Carl Barlow briefly led until Royce Goetz took the lead.

Behind them the number 45 Mustang was driving through traffic as it headed to the front. This time regular driver Jesse Gonzalez was out of town to Jeff Olschowka was subbing for him.

in the final laps of the Street Stock main winner Royce Goetz was chased by Jeff Olschowka, who subbed for Jesse Gonzalez.

Once Olschowka took over second the chase was on. Lap after lap they tore around the track. At the checkered flag Goetz held on to score the victory with Gonzalez close behind and Barlow finished third.

Royce Goetz celebrates his Street Stock victory.

“It was green to checkered I think,” Goetz said. “Track was beautiful, a little loose but hey we all learned how to drive it.

Then he thanked his wife and kids as well as GoFast Racing and Fabrication and Winning Attitude Motorsports.

Cole Olexiewcz uses an outside move to take the lead from Joe Wabsis in the IMCA Northern Sport Mod main.

Next to get the green flag were the IMCA Northern Sportmods. On the start 11 drivers took off and Rafael Flores was the early leader.

After two cautions Cole Olexiewicz and Joe Wabsis were moving to the front. After one of the restarts Wagsis took the point with Olexiewicz close behind.

Five more cautions followed but after the last restart it was side-by-side between Wabsis and Olexiewicz, who took the lead. Wabis fell back so at the checkered flag it was Olexiewicz followed by early leader Flores and Jimmy Ford in third.

“It’s slick all over and there’s a little bit coming off of 4 but that first caution I clipped Flores there and think I broke something on the left front so it wasn’t wanting to steer good,” Olexiewica said. “Just luckily on the restart I knew there was grip there, it gripped there and got around the zero nine.

Then he thanked his parents, Auto Pro Collision, Simmons Motorsports, Susanville Super Market and Auto Zone.

The new winged sprint car series is gaining cars. When the green waved 10 of them charged toward Turn 1. Tony Amador led briefly until Trey Walters took the point.

Getting past lappers slowed Walter down and Larry Tachovsky took over the lead. There was a caution when Amador slowed then went onto the infield.

After the restart Walters took the lead back while Tachovsky’s car experienced problems and he would end up on the infield.

Up front Walters was not to be denied and he claimed the victory. Brandon Ternora finished second while third place was Wade Taylor.

After winning the Sprint Car main Trey Walters celebrates.

After climbing on his car’s wing to celebrate Walters came down and said, “Haven’t been here for awhile. It  was really a heavy track, took rubber, really had too work the car around the track, ride the brakes and do the usual.”

Then he thanked his parents, Snap On Tools, Bo Rentals,

Competition Carburation, Dusty Rose Ranch and Sugar Mountain Transport.

The IMCA Modified race was somewhat different; mainly because the guys were left in the dust. On the green Katelynn Robertson took off .

Behind her Melissa Natenstedt carved her way through the pack and took over second. Behind her there was a five-way duel for third between the guys.

There were two cautions one for Wade Lumsden, whose car got a flat. He pitted and got that taken care of.

The car of Shawn Natenstedt, who eventually retired, was having problems. Another caution when there was contact between him and team mate Dave Sciarroni, who wound up backwards on the front straight.

Sciarroni was able to continue and the next caution came when Billy Anderson spun in Turn 2. Up front however it was now a women’s race as Natenstedt was chasing Robertson.

Late in the IMCA Modified feature Melissa Natenstedt was able to get past leader Katlynn Robertson.

In the final laps Robertson was having a minor problem with the exit to Turn 4. That was all Natenstedt needed and she used an inside move in Turn 1 to take the lead.

In the season’s first race both women were one-two but this time it was reversed. Natenstedt won with Robertson the runner and third place, first in the men’s class, was Steven Anderson.

The victory wasn’t easy and later Natenstedt said, “It was an all women’s race and she just made a few mistakes and I kept on myself to be smooth. I got a flat tire on the last lap. So on the last lap I was like, ‘I hope no one passes me as I have a flat.”

Then she thanked husband Shawn and Dave for always working on our car. She also expressed appreciation to all the fans for coming and enjoying the races.

Mini Stocks were next. Kent Knisley has lights under his car and on the green he took off. Cooper Lee was on the front row but fell back to fourth.

Colton Blankenship took over second but three would be no catching the flying Knisley this night. In the final laps the car of Joseph Cook started smoking and he didn’t finish the race.

Up front Knisley reached the checkered flag first followed by Blankenship. Finishing third was Lee and Jorden Riley ended up fourth.

After taking the checkered flag Knisley said, “That was hard, no power steering and my arms are cramping. Thanks to Shorty for helping me put in my new motor, Old Iron Motorsports, Glen Lee. I could feel a groove and I held it. It wasn’t beautiful but I felt it.”

When the green waved to start the IMCA Stock Car main Jesse Yankee was briefly in the lead. Right after Jacob Dias took second there was a caution and the cars were bunched up.

During a restart in the IMCA Stock Car race winner Jacob Dias uses an outside move to get around Jesse Yankee and Brad Schmidt.

On the green Dias used a sweeping outside move to take the lead. Not far behind him Yankee was giving chase until he had to drop out of the race.

Up front Dias held on and won the race. Brad Schmidt was chasing the leader but had to settle for second while Marie Curtis finished third.

Jacob Dias celebrates his win in the IMCA Stock Car main.

“It took a little bit but just had to be patient as the track was tricky right now so just had to take my time,” Dias said later.

Then he gave special thanks to his father as well as sponsors Portable Painting. Goodwins General Store and Napa Auto Parts.

The Bootlegger class ended the night. On the green Sam Miller jumped into the lead and began to pull away.

Sam Miller closes the racing night when he won the Bootlegger main. He also swept the weekend for the class.

There were two cautions, one where the car of Joseph Keough hit the wall coming out of Turn 4 but he was able to continue. The next came after a car stopped on the backstretch.

For Miller none of this mattered as he won the race and swept the weekend. Keough finished second while Jerome Kleve was third.

Right after getting his trophy Miller said, “It was a good race. I didn’t really have a lot of competition tonight but that’s what happens when you get the pole I guess. The track’s a little rough but it’s not too bad.”

He thanked his wife Shirley and son Mason, who came up from California as well as his parents. He also expressed appreciation to sponsors Trey Talor and Shelia Spears for all the decals on his car.

• The Outlaw Karts also ran Saturday night. In the 250 Class the top three were, winner Kai Ternora, Shinnston Ternora and Hunter Wood.

  • The top three in Box Stock were winner Ander Fisher, Mason White and third place Hunter Wood.
