RACING PREVIEW: AUGUST 3 TO 6

RENO, NV (August 2) — We’re in the middle of Hot August Nights, a festival of Cars and Rock N’ Roll. The streets are full of all types of cars most from the 1970’s an earlier, it’s a wonderful time to be or visit Reno and Sparks.

CAR MEETS:

This is the week of Hot August Nights, a festival of cars and rock n’ roll.

• Of course topping the list are the many events the Hot August Nights Festival brings. For the complete schedule please check the website at, www.hotaugustnights.net.

The National Automobile Museum is celebrating the 50th anniversary of American Graffiti.

• Thursday, August 3, the National Automobile Museum celebrates the 50th anniversary of American Graffiti. The show runs from 5 until 9 p.m.

• The Rail City Casino has two Show N’ Shines this weekend.

  • On Friday the Impalas Car Club has a show with live entertainment beginning at 5 p.m. Then on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m., there is the Ribs + Retro Rides Show & Shine and the proceeds to help the VFW.

• Nevada Jeep Club has a Jumbo Grade Trail Run to Virginia City. The meeting time is 9 and at the Jumbo Grade Trail head off East Lake.

On Saturday the Wicked Ways Car Club has a show at the Glow Plaza.

• On Saturday the Wicked Ways Car Club presents “Tomorrow’s Classics,” which is a free show and concert at the Glow Plaza, located at 670 W. 4th Street in Reno.

• Saturday evening, from 8 p.m. until 11:30 p.m., the EVO Club is meeting at the Kietzke Lane Starbucks.

Reno Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month on Sunday.

• On Sunday, from 10 until noon Reno Cars & Coffee has its first of the month meet at the Kietzke Starbucks.

RACING (4-Wheel):

Club Rowdy is hosting three days of drifting at the Reno-Fernley Raceway.

• Over at the Reno-Fernley Racetrack, located off 95A south of town, there will be Hottest August Nights, three days of drifting on the road course.

  • Gates open at 7 a.m. there is tech inspection and around 8:30 a driver’s meeting. Drifting should start around 9 a.m• This Friday and Saturday it’s Lovelock Frontier Days and Lovelock Speedway has two nights of racing.

  • On Friday the racing starts at 7 p.m. and this is a good payout if enough cars show up. Saturday’s racing begins at 6 p.m. and again, depending on the car count there is pretty good payouts.
This is the final weekend of the Renegade Street Stock Challenge.
  • The highest combined points winner from both nights gets a special belt buckle trophies. For Street Stock drivers it’s the final round of the Renegade Street Stock Classic so a championship is on the line.

• Over in Quincy, California on Saturday American Valley Speedway is hosting its regular racing show. The green flag flies at 7 p.m. and the weather there is usually cooler than in Reno.

MOTORCYCLES (Racing & Practice):

• Locally the motocross track at Fernley 95A will be closed Saturday but there will be practice sessions from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday.

• Riverfront MX has practice Thursday from 5 until10 p.m. but Saturday is a private ride day. Sunday, from 8 until 1 has open practice.

Due to expected heat Battle Born MX has canceled this weekend’s races.

• Due to the expected weather Battle Born MX has canceled its round scheduled for August 5-6 at Riverfront MX. As a result Round 9 at Prairie City will be a Saturday – Sunday double header.

• Prairie City has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

• E Street MX Park has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Both the front and back courses are available.

• MMX has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday on the main, sand and kid’s tracks. On Sunday practice is from 8 until 2 p.m. and the vintage track is added to the mix.

RACING (National and International):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub then at 5:30 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

  • ESPN at 6 p.m. will air the next round of the SRX series, which will be at Berlin Raceway. These short track races are pretty good.

• On Friday Fox Sports 1 has ARCA Racing from Michigan.

• Saturday starts at 12:30 p.m. when NBC has the Xfinity race from the Super Speedway at Michigan. Then at 1:10 p.m. www.imsa.tv has IMSA Weathertech Sport Car qualifying from Road America.

•Sunday begins at 8 a.m. when the USA Network has the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Series racing at Road America.

  • At 9:30 a.m. NBC and Peacock join forces to broadcast the Indy Car race from the streets of Nashville.

  • USA Network comes back at 11:30 to broadcast the NASCAR Cup race from Michigan. It’s another big speedway for the drivers.
The Moto GP series races at Silverstone this Sunday.
  • Then on a delayed basis NBC airs the Moto GP race from Silverstone in England. Should be interesting to see the bikes on this course.

That does it for this weekend. If possible do get out and see what Hot August Nights offers. The is something for any car fans, not to mention a lot of rock n’ roll on various stages and an classic car auction at the convention center.

• The annual Outlaw Flat Trac races at the south end of Carson City is fast approaching. The Friday-Saturday event is a blizzard of qualifying, heats and mains.  Good action packed show.

• If one is going to race at Lovelock Speedway this weekend Grace Motor Sports Photography will be there. He produces great pictures and those can be used for gifts for friends and sponsors.

Daveys American Racing is usually on Face Book at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.

Davey’s American Racing is usually on at 6 p.m. Wednesdays. It can be seen on Face Book.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
