NORTHERN NEVADA KART CLUB NIGHT RACE

STEAD, NV (Aug. 19) — The annual night race for the Northern Nevada Kart Club honors one of its founders, Rick Jerome. It’s a fun event where drivers add lights to their karts.

Unfortunately this year’s event was run under the threat of weather. Both sets of heats were run with the second at night.

First to reach the checkered flag in the Kid Kart main was Cole Harris.

Racing started with the Kid Kart main. At first Presley Parter was close behind leader Cole Harris.

Soon Harris just left everyone in his wake and he reached the checkered flag first. Next came Presley Prater followed by Noah Beauregard.

Next up were the Shifter classes. Their heat races usually began with a scramble at the start so it took a bit to get everyone back in order.

This class uses a standing start and when the green lights for the main came on Mike Faker took off. Behind him Gage Griego and Brooks Anderline were chasing.

For most of the Shifter main winner Mike Faker was chased by Zeke Corson.

Starting fifth was Zeke Corson, who didn’t finish the second heat. He sliced his way to second and began a long nose-to-tail duel with Faker.

In the end Faker reached the checkered flag just over two tenths of a second ahead of Corson. Behind them Griego was third while Anderline ended up fourth and first in the Honda 125 group.

After the race Faker said, “He (Corson) bumped me a few times so I knew he was right there and I knew who it was. He came from the back so he probably turned a little faster lap times than I did. We were close enough so it was hard for him to get by.”

Then he thanked his wife and their kids as well as Zach and Rodney at Nevada Kart Sport.

Several of the Junior 1 karts had decorative lights on them like the front row.

Next to take the green flag was the Junior 1 class. Several karts including the front row had extra decorative lights.

Kayden Williams has dominated the class this season and he took off, which left everyone in his wake. Still it wasn’t easy as Williams soon found himself having to lap slower racers

Kayden Williams on his way to winning the Junior 1 main.

At the checkered flag Williams notched another victory. Luka Rommeck-Kornbluth finished second followed by Cash Prater and Kiipton Bocchi, who ended up fourth.

After the post-race weigh in Williams spoke about the lap traffic.

“Kind of sketchy, got to be careful around them, like you never know what they are going to do. So you got to pick a lane and stick with it,” he said.

Then he thanked his mechanics, parents and sponsors.

KA100 racer William Owen on his way to winning the rain the rain shortened main.

Next came the multi-class main. Here four classes, KT100, KA100, KA100 Masters and Tag all race together. When the green waved KA100 racers William Owen and Jack Shrady took off with the pack chasing them.

It appeared they would have a nose-to-tail battle but Mother Nature had other ideas. After only four laps rain began to fall and the race was stopped.

While only a short delay was expected there was another bigger storm cell headed for the track so the event was called.

Sad, because there was less than two tenths of a second between winner Owen and Schrady with Carter Knight third and Giovanni Medina fourth. In the KA100 Master Class fifth overall Mike McMullen bested Nat Sombatsiri.

Brian Lewis ended up ninth place ahead of Paul Georgeson and they were 1-2 in the KT100 group. There was one TAG and Rex Owen finished eight.

The rest of the classes did manage to get in both of their heat races.

Steve Dow won the first Heavy heat.

If the rain had held off the Heavy class would have gone next.

In the second Brandon Arace was the winner.

Both heats were close with Steve Dow taking the first while Brandon Arace won the second.

Cooper Perez won both Junior 2 heats. Here in the first heat he’s being chased by Lucca Sweetland.

Cooper Perez won both heats while Jeremy Heath was the runner up and not that far behind in the second. In the first heat Lucca Sweetland was the runner up behind Perez.

Rachel Williams won both Pro 4Cycle heat races.

Once again Rachel Williams was the class of the Pro 4 division as she won both heats. Zach Sievert was runner up in the first heat while Jimmy Johns was second in the second heat.

The Seniors would have been the final class to race but unfortunately they weren’t able to. In their first head Issac and Brooks Anderline finished one-two with just two tenths of a second between them.

Brooks Anderline won the second heat for the Senior class.

In the second heat Anderline won but it was close as Zack Rivera was less than two tenths of a second behind him.

This is always a fun event but sadly the area was feeling the effects of Tropical Storm Hillary coming up from the south. Hopefully weather will be better next time NNKC races.

That next event is on Sunday, September 24 when they use Track 5. Desert Park Raceway can be configured in several layouts.
