RACING PREVIEW: SEPTEMBER 7 TO 11`

RENO, NV (Sept. 6) — A busy weekend for car and race fans in our region and over the hill. In addition there is a bunch of racing on TV and a special event Monday evening.

CAR MEETS:

Genoa is the site of the Custom and Classics Car Show this Saturday.

• The weekend begins early, at 9 a.m., in Genoa with the 3rd Annual Customs & Classics Car Show. There are trophies, dash plaques and raffle prizes plus live music.

Saturday morning is the ribbon cutting ceremony for Fallon’s Rustoration Garage.
  • Out in Fallon the Chamber of Commerce is having a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Rustoration Garage, the hosts of the Fallon Cars & Coffee events. Time is 9:30 a.m. and the location is 1555 S. Taylor Street.
There is a car show in Fallon to benefit Top Gun Dragstrip.

         – There is a Car Show Fund Raiser to benefit Top Gun Dragstrip in Fallon. It starts at 10 a.m., with an 8 a.m. check in, and all types of vehicles will be welcome. Location is at the Les Schwab Tire store          located at 2555 Reno Highway.

Pop Up Market is having a Show ‘N Shine.
  • In Carson City, starting at 10 a.m. it’s the Pop Up Market Show ‘N Shine. Location is 405 Spear Street.
Sprinkle Donuts is having another Coffee & Chrome cruise in.

         – In Reno starting at 10 a.m. Sprinkle Donuts is having another Coffee & Chrome Cruise-in.    Location is 3304 S. McCarran Blvd. in the Mira Loma Shopping Center.

In Yerington it’s Take a Kid to a Car Show weekend.
  • Down in Yerington, starting at 1 p.m. it’s the Take A Kid to a Car Show. There should be more than 100 cars on display as well as live music, vendors and more.
Saturday at the Convention Center there is the Impalas Reno Car Show.
  • Over at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center there is the Impala’s Super Show. Should have a lot of low riders. Unfortunately neither of the graphics had the starting time so I’m guessing around 10 a.m. Saturday.
Late Saturday afternoon the Summit Church is having a Show ‘N Shine.
  • Later that day, starting at 4 p.m. the Summit Church is hosting its 4th annual Show N Shine. Free entry and the location is 7075 Pyramid Highway, there is a signal at the turn in to the parking lot.

  • Sunday starts at 10 a.m. when Sparks Cars Coffee has its first meet of the year. Weather should be great and the location is by the Starbucks located on Disc Drive.
Northern Nevada Classics hosts the next Brunch ‘N Classics at Baldini’s Casino.
  • Sunday, starting at 11 a.m. is the next Brunch ‘N Classics hosted by the Northern Nevada Classics. Location is on the west parking lot of Baldinis Casino at the corner of Glendale and Rock.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

On Monday the Nevada Jeep Club has an evening convoy to honor those lost in 9-11.

• On Monday the 3rd Annual NJC Ride to Remember Jeep Convoy will happen. Folks are asked to bring flags as the it is to remember those lost in 9-11.

The meeting time is 5:30 p.m. and the place is Buffalo Wild Wings at 3815 South Carson Street in Carson City.

RACING (4-Wheel):

Saturday and Sunday Club Rowdy has two days of drifting out at the Reno-Fernley Speedway. It’s on the road course.
  • Out at the Reno-Fernley Speedway, the road-racing track, Club Rowdy is hosting another weekend of drifting. They were a little confused on the dates but things start at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
After returning from being dark Lovelock Speedway is ending its season Saturday.
  • Lovelock Speedway ends its first season after being dark for two years. Racing should begin around 6 p.m. Saturday and hope local racers will end this season on a high note.
American Valley Speedway cancelled Saturday’s scheduled race.
  • American Valley Speedway, located in East Quincy, California announced the cancellation of the September 6th race. The track’s next date is September 16th.
Tonopah Spedway ends its season with racing Friday and Saturday evenings.

         -Tonopah Speedway ends it season with the Jim March Classic races. There will be racing Friday      and Saturday evenings.

The Winnemucca Regional Speedway has racing Friday and Saturday evenings.
  • Winnemucca Regional Raceway is having two nights of racing. Both the big cars and kid’s karts will be in action. Since no times were on the graphic so I’ll guess the cars go at 6 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday.
E Street has another of its SXS series this Satuday evening.

         – Over the hill E-Street is having the seventh round of its SXS Series. They have everything from         youngsters to adults racing these machines.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• Fernley 95A Speedway will have practice Saturday and Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. on the motocross track. Should be great weather to ride.

This weekend is the next round for the Battle Born MX series. Sign ups are still open.
  • Battle Born MX has its next round at Winnemucca this weekend. Signups are open at www.battlebornmx.com.
After Saturday’s practice there will be a Stacyc Race for very round riders.

         After Saturday’s practice there will be a Stacyc Race. These are the youngest riders, they use small electric bikes and it is so cute to watch.

  • Over the hill Riverfront MX is hosting the next round of the Saturday Night Series. The track will have practice Thursday from 5:30 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
MMX Racing has practice this weekend.
  • MMX Racing has practice Saturday from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kid’s tracks. Then from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday with the vintage track added to the mix.
Prairie City MX hosts an AMA District 35 Grand Prix this Sunday.
  • Prairie City has the Trail Blazer Grand Prix on Sunday. It is another AMA race so District 36 rules apply. So there may be or not be practice on Saturday.
Reno Area Dirt riders is having a scavenger hunt and ride this weekend.

• Reno Area Dirt Riders is having a Scavenger Hunt and Ride. Starts Sunday at 10 a.m., there is a free lunch and meeting place is Mitchell Canyon. Great group is one enjoys riding in the country we are blessed to live around.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• On Thursday Fox 1 at 3 p.m. has NASCAR Race Hub. The playoffs have begun so every race is important to drivers trying to win their series championships.

• Friday starts at 3 p.m. as Fox Sports has ARCA Racing from Kansas. Then at 6 p.m. the network Airs the Craftsman Truck Series from that track.

Here are the 60 riders going for the Super Motocross Championship.

• Saturday at 6:30 a.m. Peacock airs Race Day Live. Then at noon the USA Network takes over and broadcasts the Super Motocross World Championship Playoff #1 from Charlotte. Sixty riders are competing for that championship in a three-race series.

  • At 12:30 NBC broadcast the Xfinity race from Kansas. Then at 1 p.m. www.mavtv.com has MotoAmerica Superbike racwe #1 from COTA (Circuit of the Americas) outside of Austin, Texas.
The Indy Car series ends its season at Laguna Seca this Sunday.
  • This weekend the Indy Cars and ending their season and at 5:50 p.m. Peacock airs qualifying from the newly repaved Laguna Seca track.

• Sunday starts at 10 a.m. when NBC has the Moto GP race from San Marino.

  • Then at noon NBC and Peacock join forces to broadcast the season ending Indy Car race from Laguna Seca.
NASCAR is at Kansas this weekend as the series play offs continue. Photo courtesy – sportingnews.com.
  • Over on the USA Network at noon has the NASCAR Cup race from Kansas. Once again every race is important for those drivers that want to claim the championship.
  • The day ends at 1 p.m. when mavtv airs the second MotoAmerica Super Bike race from COTA.

That’s it for this weekend and once again the car meet banquet table is over flowing. If possible attend a race, as that helps the tracks and racers. There is nothing like seeing a race live.
