LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY: CHAMPION’S NIGHT

LOVELOCK, NV (Sept. 9) — The first full season for this track ended with a Friday-Saturday show. The final night ended with special final race and a winning mother-daughter duo.

That last race where, drivers contributed to the “winner-take-all purse,” was for 30-laps. The slower cars started up front while the faster cars started in the back.

Earlier just as the final heat race was to start Mother Nature blessed everyone with rain.  That final heat had to wait about an hour as track had to be worked on and wheel packed.

In the Bootlegger main winner Austin Miller was chasedby Ryan Parkhurst.

The features began with the Bootleggers. As only two cars took the green it was only 8-laps long.

Right after the green waved Austin Miller took the lead while Ryan Parkhurst gave chase. They would finish in that order and Miller had the first victory of the night.

Due to the car count the IMCA Modifieds and the IMCA Northern Sport Mods ran a combined event. On the green Raymond Talavera took off with Mark Hain chasing him.

In the back were two Modifed drivers, Katelynn Robertson and Tyler Jones. After the first lap both began to work their way to the front.

In the combined Modified feature Katelynn Robertson uses an inside move to pass Raymond Talavera and take the lead.

Robertson sliced her way through traffic then used an inside move to take the lead. After that she left everyone in her wake and almost lapped the entire field

Jones was the overall runner up while the first two Sportmods were Talavera and Hain.

For Robertson it was her second victory that weekend. After taking victory lap she was greeted by her little friend and interviewed.

After winning her second modified feature of the weekend Katelynn Robertson celebrates with her little friend.

“Thank you so much, it’s been a blast year and it’s been great having the fourth main event win,” she said. “I’m running 8th in the Ladies division and that’s all the ladies in the IMCA division nationwide. So I told them if I win every race I might get it.

“Want to thank my Poppa Larry, I wouldn’t be here without him. He does everything for me. I’d like to thank Big Dog Transportation, all my fans and everyone that helps me. Last year it was just me and Poppa, and it was so hard. This year we had eight people wanting to pit next to us and it’s way better than last year.”

She added that her little friend now has a  kart and will be racing next year. In fact Robertson put the little one on her lap for the trip back to the pits.

Next came the Hobby Stock feature that was combined with the IMCA Stock Cars, which started at the back. On the green Shayna Nieman took off leaving the rest of the 14-car field in her dust.

At the start of the Hobby Stock Car main Shayna Nieman leads Ryan Parkhurst.

Behind her Rusty McMillan was moving through the pack and soon held second. Early in the race Hailey Conroy pitted with problems, her retirement insured that 10-year-old Grayson Olschowka won the class championship.

Up front while Nieman had a clear track McMillan had to work his way through traffic but soon took over second ahead of Taggart Garland while Ryan Parkhurst was fourth.

The race actually ended under a caution but Nieman was the winner. Oddly enough she raced with a passenger, Rusty McMillan’s father.

After a victory lap Nieman said, “Last night was rough, had a broken A-Arm and on hot laps we couldn’t get going because problems with the ignition and gremins. And I’m self sponsored.”

The night ended with the 30-lap Race of Champions. Drivers were asked to contribute to the purse and the fastest cars would start at the back. The prize was “winner take all” and it was a “no-touch” race.

On the green Mikki Beuchat was on point but soon had Rusty McMillan on his tail. Behind them Katelynn Robertson was slicing her way through the pack.

There was a caution and when the green waved McMillan and Tyler Jones led but Robertson was third.  Then Robertson used an inside pass going down the backstretch to claim the lead, after that she was on cruise control.

McMillan pitted then Robertson was almost hit when another car spun in Turn three. The race resumed with 18-laps to go and soon Tyler Jones dropped out.

Announcer Davey Munoz presented Race of Champions winner Katelynn Robertson with the grand prize.

In the end Robertson continued her sweep of the night and after stopping on the front stretch announcer Davey Munez presented her with the money.

Then Robertson said, “That was so much fun. When this was brought to my attention I said, ‘I’m doing that.’”

Two winners for the night Shayna Nieman poses with her daughter Katelynn Robertson.

Later her mother, who wasn’t able to run the race due to over heating, arrived so Shayna Nieman and Katelynn Robertson posed for a winning Mother-Daughter photo.
