RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY ENDS REGULAR SEASON

FALLON, NEVADA (Sept. 16) — Rattlesnake Raceway ended its point’s season with a Friday-Saturday show. While some championships were already settled at least one wasn’t and that was settled in the first race.

First up were the IMSA Stock Cars. Both Rusty McMillan and Marie Curtis started the night only 5 points apart so the race would settle that class championship.

Carl Barlow led green to checkered to win the IMCA Stock Car feature.

On the green Carl Barlow took off with Brad Schmidt and Jesse Yankee giving chase. Behind them Curtis and McMillan started working their way forward.

A caution came out after a car started to spin and collected both McMillan and Curtis as they could not avoid it. McMillan was pushed to the pits to get a tire changed but eventually Curtis retired.

When the green waved again Barlow took off and held off a brief challenge by Schmidt. Shortly after that McMillan and Schmidt had a side-by-side duel for second.

Rusty McMillin clinched the class championship.

Up front it was all Barlow as he claimed the victory. Behind him McMillan ended up second and clinched the class title while Schmidt ended up third.

Carl Barlow gets his winner’s trophy from Grayson Olschowka.

After the race Barlow said, “First weekend with the car. I’m going to do this as long as I’m winning and having fun.:

Then he thanked Royce Goetz Racing and Winning attitude.

Shortly after the green sent 10 Mini Stocks heading to Turn 1 Cooper took the lead. While another driver spun there was caution and that person headed for the pits.

Cooper Lee takes the checkered flag as he wins the Mini Stock feature. In a borrowed car now less.

As the race progressed Lee was on cruise while second place Kent Knisley was giving chase and Austin Sprague was holding down third. They finished in those positions.

While collecting his trophy Lee said, “I’m a little excited, I’d say. The truck was so good tonight and Rusty did such a good thing. I thought they were on me the whole time so I was just striving.”

Then he thanked Shorty for loaning Lee his car. He also thanked Old Iron Powder Coating, his father and grandfather.

At the trophy presentations 10-year-old Grayson Olschowka was handing them to the winning drivers. Grayson, even at his age, is Lovelock Speedway’s Street Stock champion.

Only two IMCA Modifieds were on hand so they ran with the IMCA Northern Sport Mod class and started at the back. When the green waved 10 racers roared into Turn 1.

Up front Friday’s winner Shayna Nieman was on point with Shaun Merritt close behind. Soon Ray Ballard took over second. The first caution came when a car spun in Turn 4 and Nieman stopped to avoid a wreck; she was given her spot back.

When racing resumed Nieman and Ballard took off but by now Wade Lumsden had moved into third. There was a second caution when Austin Daniels spun and he was unable to finish the race.

In the closing laps of the IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature winner Shayna Nieman was chased by Wade Lumsden, who was driving an IMCA Modified.

There would be two more cautions but Nieman held the point. Now she had Lumsden right off her back bumper as they tore around the track. On the final dash to the flag Lumsden spun in Turn 4 while Nieman collected her second victory in as many nights.

Northern Sport Mod winner Shayna Nieman hams it up with Grayson Olschowka.

After receiving her trophy Nieman said, “I feel amazing, this is awesome, thank you so much. We had a slow start to the season and this is three. Have a bunch that helps me like Kevin and Rusty McMillan always checks on me.”

Her car is a Gun Slinger Chassis and its decorated by Ione2 Graphics.

Wade Lumsden claimed his fifth IMCA Modified Championship.

For Lumsden, despite his late spin, clinched his fifth championship at the track. After the race he said, “Can’t do this without all my support. Gilmore Graphics always making me look good and All About Caring Senior Care Center and my grandfather.”

Before the start of their feature the Street Stock field did a 4-wide salute to the fans.

Next up was the big race of the night, the Memorial Street Stock feature and the field did a 4-wide salute to the fans. The winner would earn $1,500 for their efforts. When the green waved 20 cars took off but three of them spun in Turn 4.

Since the field didn’t complete a single lap it was a full restart although the cars involved were put to the back. Next green David Woods was on point with Taggart Garland behind him.

Unfortunately Woods spun on the backstretch and somehow everyone missed him. This brought out a caution and David Ausano stopped on the infield inside of Turn 1.

Next on point was Mikki Beuchat but two cautions bunched the field. On the restart Beuchat took off but Natenstedt used an inside move to take the lead.

About that time Ryan Parkhurst stopped on the infield by Turn 1. There was another scramble and the lead was reshuffled and Natenstedt was involved so had to restart from the back.

At one time Royce Goetz also led but was caught up in one of the scrambles that happened in Turn 4. So he like others had to be in the back for the restart.

Beuchat was still in the lead but Jeff Olschowka was second. Another caution was called as a car exiting the track blocked the off ramp to the pits.

After coming from the back twice Shawn Natensted won the Street Stock main.

Next restart  Olshowka used the outside line to claim the lead but by now Natenstedt had worked his way back to second. Then after another restart Natenstedt used the outside line going down the back stretch to take the lead.

At the flag Natenstedt won for the second night in a row followed by Olschowka, Nick Baldwin and Royce Goetz.

Shawn Natenstedt and his passenger nephew Brian accept the winner’s trophy with Grayson Olschowka.

Later Natensdtedt said,”Yea it started out pretty good and I stepped on my ding, ding I spun it out in the lead. Went to the back and went, “that’s a lot of cars we’ve got to pass.’ I told my nephew (passenger) we can do it.

“We made it up two spots and kept getting cars that spun out we passed a ton of cars tonight but we got’er done. It’s a good weekend as we have my family here from Montana, my nephew Brian has never been to the races out here and he got to ride with me. I’m glad you fans stuck it out as it’s a late night.”

Then he thanked everyone involved that helped him.

Attrition was high in the race and while 20 started the 30-lap race only were around to see the checkered flag.

Last race of the night was the Bootlegger feature. When the green waved the early leader was Austin Miller.

Later Andrew Geller took his turn on the point until a caution came out for a car hitting the Turn 4 wall. Now the restarts would be single file.

Sam Miller makes the winning pass in the Bootlegger feature.

There would be one more caution but in the end Sam Miller worked his way into the lead and scored the victory. Peter Lossing was second ahead of third place Ryan Harrison.

Next up for the track is the annual Dirt Track Championships. Two complete shows on October 6 and 7 with a Saturday night race then a Sunday afternoon event where the champions are crowned.
