DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS – RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY

FALLON, NV (OCT 7) — This year the 37th Annual Dirt Track Championships was a two-night affair with racing Friday and Saturday. Nine classes were racing for wins and the class championships based on a driver’s finishes for both nights.

Joe Frock chasing early leader Vukie Wilson Jr., during the Dwarf Car main.

First on the racing card were the Dwarf Cars and seven of took the green with Ryan Parkhurst briefly on point. Next to lead was Vuki Wilson Jr. but moving toward the front was Friday’s winner, Joe Frock.

After sweeping both Dwarf Car mains, Joe Frock takes a victory lap.

After that the chase was on but in the end Frock scored another victory. Wilson was the runner up followed by third place Chris Christiano.

Sprint Car winner Grasen Temora is about to take the lead from Brandon Temora.

Next came the Modern Concrete Winged Sprint Cars, a series that formed this year. It’s bringing this open wheel racing to several area tracks.

Nine of these winged cars took the green and first on point was Brandon Temora. Behind him Trey Walters moved into second but up front Grasen Temora took the lead.

There was one caution that briefly slowed things. At the checkered Grasen Temora scored the victory followed by Walters and Friday’s winner Nick Purdy.

Steven Crook, racing a Mod Mini, is about to pass leader Travis Showe during the Mini Stock main.

When the Mini Stocks took the green Travis Showe was on point. Behind him Steven Crook, racing a Mod Mini was moving to the front.

After winning the Mini Stock main Steven Crook celebrates.

Once Crook took the lead he left everyone in his wake on the way to winning the race. Showe was second, and the first Mini Stock to reach the finish while Kent Knisley was third.

The largest class of the night was Street Stock and 17 of them took the green flag. First on point was Dave Sciarroni with Mikki Beuchat behind him.

After using lap traffic to his advantage Jess Gonzalez takes the checkered flag to wind the Street Stock main.

Making his way toward the front was Jesse Gonzalez, driving the only Mustang in the field. Right after he took over second there was a caution.

When racing resumed Sciarroni took off with Gonzalez and Beuchat in hot pursuit. Eventually getting through lap traffic gave Gonzalez his chance and he used an outside move to take the lead.

Jesse Gonzalez celebrates with a victory lap after winning Saturday’s Street Stock main.

At the finish it was Gonzalez, Sciarroni and Beuchat with Randy Boyd finishing fourth.

The Bootlegger main was run the “wrong way,” as they went reverse from the usual direction.

The Bootlegger main was very different as they raced the “wrong way,” on the oval. Once the green waved Peter Lossing was leading while Austin Miller and Sam Miller were giving chase

Sam Smith swept both Bootlegger mains. Saturday’s was run in the reverse direction.

There was one caution and after racing resumed Sam Miller took the lead and distanced himself from the pack as he won the race. Joseph Keough was second while Lossing finished third.

John Zeiter was the only that kept running in the Micro Sprint heat race and main.

Only two were able to start the Micro Sprint main. After a few laps the car of John Zeiter broke its chain and he was out. That left Barry Lampert as the winner as his car was the only one still running.

Once in the lead Buddy Olschowka had things going his way in the IMCA Northern Sport Mod main.

A dozen IMCA Northern Sport Mods took the green flag and Jimmy Ford was up front along with Richard Vander Ploeg.

There was an early caution when two cars got involved coming out of Turn 4. When racing resumed Ploeg led until Buddy Olschowka used an inside move on the backstretch to grab the point.

Two more cautions followed and the field had a single file restart after the last one. While Olschowka took off behind him Ford and Tyler Rogers were dueling for second

Buddy Olschowka takes a victory lap after winning the sport mod main.

In the end Olschowka won followed by Ford, Rogers and fourth place Jason Jovanelly.

Only seven IMCA Modifieds took the green and Shawn Natenstedt led with Dave Sciarroni in second.

During the IMCA Modified main Katelynn Robertson moved into second after passing Cory Sample.

There would be three cautions and when racing resumed Natenstedt was still leading but Katelynn Robertson got past Cory Sample for second.

Shawn Natenstedt takes the checkered flag after winning the IMCA Modified main.

Now the chase was on but in the end Natenstedt won the day with Robertson second while Sample finished third.

Reno driver Kagelynn Robertson is the 2023 Nevada IMCA Modified champion. She’s also ranked seventh nationally in the women’s group.

For Robertson it’s been a special year. She’s the IMCA Modified Nevada champion and in the women’s national standings, called the Lady Eagles, she’s ranked seventh. Not bad for a year’s effort.

Once Jeff Olschowka got in the lead there would be no stopping him.

Finally it was time for the IMCA Stock Cars to take to the track. When the green waved on the seven-car field Jacob Dias led with Jeff Olschowka close behind him.

Eventually the car of Dias slowed and he was out. The caution was extended a bit for debris in Turn 1. On the restart Olschowka took off but was soon behind chased by Cody Morris and Carl Barlow.

When the IMCA Stock Car feature ended winner Jeff Olschowka was chased about the line by Cody Morris.

Olschowka reached the checkered flag with Morris close behind. Barlow ended up third ahead of Rusty McMillan.

The night ended when the Mini Stocks has a money race in the reverse direction.

The night wasn’t over as there was another “wrong way,” race for the Mini Stocks. The drivers all contributed to a “winner take all” purse and ran the track backwards.

Mikki Beuchat ended the track’s 2023 season when he won the special Mini Stock race.

In the end Mikki Beuchat won the race and money. This brought the regular racing season to a close.
