RACING PREVIEW: OCTOBER 26 TO 29

RENO, NV (Oct. 25) — Fall is upon us and there are a bunch of special car meets this weekend. In addition there are two races in this region as well as national series on TV.

CAR MEETS:

• Things get going Thursday morning at 7 a.m. when the Iron Mafia hosts another meet at Kims Donuts & Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• Friday, starting at 5:30, the next Friday Night Meet in Fernley happens. Meeting place is the 76th gas station.

The Reno Evo group meets Friday at 8 p.m. by the Keitzke Starbucks.

• Friday evening, at 8 p.m. is when Reno Evo has their next meet. Location is by the Keitzke Starbucks.

Reno Cars & Coffee meets Saturday at the Galena Creek Visitor Center.

• Saturday is when Reno Cars & Coffee has a meet at the Galena Creek Visitor Center. Times are from 9 a.m. to noon and the center is located on the Mt. Rose Highway after it goes to two-lanes and starts heading up the hill.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

• This being the weekend where much of Halloween is celebrated there are a multitude of Trunk ‘N’ Treat events.

Here is the Halloween Schedule that has most of the Trunk N’ Treat events.
  • While two have already happened there is one Thursday at Red Hawk Golf Course.
On Friday Yerington has two Trunk or Treat events.
  • Two more on Thursday are in Yerington with one running from 3 until 5 p.m. at City Hall and other from 5 until 6 p.m. at the E.L. Wiegand Early Learning Center.
On Sunday there is a Trunk or Great event in Carson City.

• There is a Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 29 from 4:30 until 6 p.m. in Carson City. Location is 2310 S. Carson Street #4.

In addition to the schedule I’ve included many event posters at the end of this article. These events are a great, way to have the young people in your life enjoy this day.

RACING (4-Wheel):

Rattlesnake Raceway has the final oval track race Saturday.

• The final oval track race in Northern Nevada is on Saturday with a 6 p.m. start. Kids are encouraged to come in costume as those 10 and under get in free. There will also be a candy give away but be sure to dress warm as it will be chilly.

If you’re in California Saturday or have MAVTV Madera Speedway has a crazy race.

• If you subscribe to www.mavtv.com on Saturday Madera Speedway has one crazy race. They race over pumpkins that the spectators smashed earlier.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

• MRANN ends its season with their final desert race of the year. Location is about 9 miles east of Winnemucca Dry Lake’s northern end.

MRANN ends its 2023 season this weekend with two days of desert racing. This time the big bikes go on Saturday and the rest on Sunday.

This time the order is changed as the big bikes run Saturday. Course is about 35 miles long and first race at 9 a.m. is for the Experts and Pros. Then at around 12:15 the Amateurs and Novice racers get their chance.

Sunday, starting at 8 a.m. is when the Bombers and Evo classes run. Then at 9:30 the Pee Wees get their chance and finally at 11 a.m. V Women and Mini get their chance.

• Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway has practice on the motocross track from 10 until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Riverfront MX has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday on all the tracks.

• Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The first round of the 2023 AMP Triple Crown series starts this weekend at Argyll MX.

• This weekend the three-race 2023 AMP Triple Crown motocross series begins at Argyll MX. Should be two days of racing.

Saturday night at the Argyll MX races is for Trick or Treat and an adult costume contest.
  • On Saturday night there will be Trick or Treating for the kids and a costume contest for the adults.
MMX Racing will be a busy place this weekend.

• MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the main, sand and kids tracks. Then Sunday the times are from 9 until 3 p.m. with practice on the main, sand and kids tracks while it’s a ride day on the vintage track for OSMX.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub then at 4 p.m. NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from the Las Vegas Nationals.

  • There is also the Freemont Street Fan Fest that is park of the festivities. I believe it’s also a great chance to meet one’s favorite driver.

• Friday has ESPN airing, at 11:25 then at 2:55 two Formula 1 practice sessions from Mexico City. At 4 p.m. www.espn3.com has the Formula 1 show.

• Saturday at 9:30 a.m. USA Network has NASCAR Cup Practice and Qualifying from the “Paper Clip,” as Martinsville Speedway is known. Then at 10:25 ESPN News has the third Formula 1 practice.

  • The USA network at 12:30 p.m. broadcasts the Xfinity race from Martinsville. Then at 1:55 p.m. ESPN News airs the Formula 1 qualifying from Mexico City.

• Sunday starts at 10 a.m. when CNBC broadcast the MotoGP race from Thailand. AT 10:25 A.M.

  • At 11 AM NBC will air the NASCAR Cup race from Martinsville Speedway. Now the eight drivers in contention for the championship will be reduced to four. Then in one of them will be crowned the champion at the next race in Phoenix.

• At 11:30 ABC broadcast the Formula 1 race from Mexico City. In less than a month the series will race on the Streets of Las Vegas.

• Then at 2 p.m. Fox Sports 1 will broadcast the Las Vegas Nationals. This is the penultimate round in the championship countdown.

  • Freemont Street is also the site of the Fan Fest during this event. A great time to meet the drivers before they run the final rounds on Sunday.
