RACING PREVIEW: NOVEMBER 9 TO 12

RENO, NV (Oct. 8) — This weekend the last major national series ends its 2023 season. In our region there are three races left, an awards banquet as well as a test event at a renewed motocross track.

There is a lot of racing in other series still to come as well as a bunch of car meets. Fortunately the weather for this weekend looks good.

CAR MEETS:

• Things get going at 7 a.m. Thursday morning when Iron Mafia has its weekly meet at Kim’s Donuts located at 1328 U.S.395 North in Gardnerville.

The 2nd Annual Show N’ Shine to benefit the Veteran’s Guest House will be held on Friday.

• Friday, from noon until 5 p.m., the 2nd Annual Show & Shine will be in front of the Jason Candler & Associates office located at 175 Salomon Circle in Sparks. The event benefits the Veteran’s Guest House.

  • That same evening, starting at 5:30 there is the weekly Friday Night Meet in Fernley. The meeting place is the 76th gas station.
Obsolete Iron is having its monthly Coffee & Chrome cruise-in on Saturday.

• Since it’s the second Saturday of the month, Obsolete Iron is hosting another Coffee & Chrome Cruise-In. Location is Sprinkles Donuts located at 3304 S. McCarran Blvd. in the Mira Loma Shopping Center.

• On Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars and Coffee hosts its first meet of the month. Location is by the Starbucks on Disc Drive.

RACING (4-Wheel):

On Saturday, starting at 5 p.m. Lovelock Speedway is hosting its Awards Banquet.

• Saturday, starting at 5 p.m. Lovelock Speedway is hosting its Awards Banquet. Location is the Pershing County Community Center.

• To the South racers are pre-running sections used for the 56th annual Baja 1000. Things get going with the actual race happening the weekend of November 16 to 18.

RACING & PRACTICE (Motorcycles):

The Sandbox MX track in Fernley is opening this weekend with practice sessions.

• After weeks of work the Sandbox, located west of the Veteran’s Cemetery in Fernley, has its opening weekend. Looks like two days of practice from 9 until 2 p.m. each day.

  • Numbers are limited and as of Tuesday the Saturday field was full with spots still open for Sunday.

• A few miles away the motocross track at Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway has practice sessions. Times are from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and there is no limit to the amount of riders.

Battle Born MX ends its 2023 season this weekend at Winnemucca MX.

• To the east BBMX hosts the 2023 season ending race at Winnemucca MX. Sign ups are now open and for further information please go to, www.battlebornmx.com.

After Saturday practice at the BBMX event there will be a Stacyc race for the youngest riders.

         – After Saturday’s practice there is another Stacyc Race for the youngest riders. These          youngsters, 6 & Under, ride low power bikes on a very short course

• Looking over the hill there is practice sessions as well as racing at one track

  • Riverfront MX has practice from 4 until 9 p.m. Thursday. Then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

  • Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Both the front and back tracks will be available.
MMX Racing is the site for the season ending Sierra OTHG series.

         -MMX Racing is going to be busy this weekend. The final two-day Fall Series for OTHG Sierra is going to happening on both days.

In addition to racing MMX is also going to have practice sessions on its other tracks.
  • There will also be practice sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. on the sand and kid’s tracks. Then from 9 until 3 p.m. on the vintage, sand and kid’s tracks. Racing happens on the main track.
Round 2 of the series is at Oatfield Raceway this weekend.

• Over at Oatfield Raceway round 2 of the 2023 Triple Crown series is run this weekend.

Cycleland Speedway, south of Chico, is hosting a 50-lap TT race this Sunday.

• For those that might be in the area of Chico, California this Sunday there is the annual 50-lap TT Classic. Location is at Cycleland Speedway.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• As expected things are getting very slim on regular TV. On Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

• Friday is pretty empty but there are other places to watch racing this weekend. One of them is www.mavtv.com as they have Motor Week at 6:30 then at 7 p.m. a Monster Truck show.

• Mavtv on Saturday has Monster Trucks at 5 p.m. then at 6:30 Icelandic Off-Road. At 7 p.m. there is live coverage of the Endurcross event from Redmond, Oregon. Next weekend the series finishes its season at the Livestock Events Center here in Reno.

• Sunday, starting at 10:30a.m., NBC has the MotoGp race from Malaysia. It’s some wild motorcycle racing at these events.

  • Then at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying show from Pomona. At 1 p.m. the network broadcast the NHRA Finals from Pomona. This is when the division champions are crowned at the spiritual home of the NHRA.

• There are other places to watch racing. On www.youtube.com they usually have highlight shows of various events.
