RACING PREVIEW: NOVEMBER 16 TO 19

RENO, NV (Nov. 15) — We’re heading into the annual slowdown and entry into the Re-Run Zone. However there is still racing going on, including a major event in Reno, as well as over the hill and in Baja.

CAR MEETS:

The Iron Mafia will continue their Thursday morning meets through the winter.

• Once again the Iron Mafia will start the weekend at 7 a.m. on Thursday. Meeting place is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• Fridays, starting at 5:30 is when the Friday Night Meet in Fernley starts. Meeting place is the 76th station.

Friday is the year’s final meet for the Reno Evo’s Car Club.

• This Friday is the year’s final meet for the Reno’s EVO Car Club. The gathering starts at 8:30 p.m. by the Kietzke Starbucks.

• Saturday apparently is empty of meets as I didn’t find any cruise notices.

Reno Cars & Coffee meets Sunday starting at 10 a.m.

• Sunday has two meets in Reno. Starting at 10 a.m. at the Human Bean located by Kietzke and Moana Lanes is when Reno Cars & Coffee meets.

  • Not far away, also starting at 10 a.m., Reno Jeeps & Coffee has its next meet. Location is at the Human Bean located at the corner of South McCarran and Longley Lane.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Right after midnight Thursday morning is when the 56th annual SCORE Baja 1000 starts.

•The biggest race of the weekend is the 56th annual SCORE Baja 100, which is actually over 1,300 miles this year.

  • Things get rolling at 1 a.m. Thursday when the Bikes and Quads are launched. Then at 9 a.m. the Trucks, Buggies and UTV’s are sent off. For further information please check, www.score-international.com.

RACING & PRACTICE (Motocross):

• Here in Reno, at the Livestock Events Center the Endurocross series has its final round. Championships  will be decided at the night’s end. Only 7 points separate the top two pro riders.

  • Doors open at 5:30 with racing starting at 7 p.m. The event is like steeple-chase where the riders have to negotiate obstacles that are part of the course.

• Closer to home this is the final practice weekend for the track at Fernley Ninetyfivea Speedway. It’s actually the normal seasonal shut down and practice sessions are from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday is when the is a MX Clinic then Sunday is a regular practice day.

• Over the hill E Street MX has a MX Clinic from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday. Then on Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. there is open practice.

MMX is hosting an AHRMA Vintage motocross event this weekend.

• MMX will be a busy place this weekend. The track is hosting the AHRMA NW Motion Pro Regional Vintage MX. Saturday is for practice and racing starts Sunday around 9:15 a.m.

• Both REP Racing MX tracks didn’t have their schedules up when this article was posted so I’m guessing it’s due to the incoming weather. Best advice is to check their pages before heading out.

  • If the weather holds Riverfront MX should have practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. there is practice Sunday. Prairie City, depending on the weather, should have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Argyll MX is honorning the memory of Daniel “Danny”Paladino this Sunday.

• Argyll MX is honoring a rider that has passed on Sunday when they state the Memorial Ride Day for Daniel “Danny” Paladino. Practice is from 9 until 3 p.m. with a memorial lap at noon.

RACING (NATIONAL):

• Of course the biggest event that is drawing international attention is the Formula 1 event in Las Vegas. But there are other things as well.

  • Some other racing sites Speed Sport TV, Dirt Vision, Fans Choice TV as well as www.youtube.com that has a lot of highlights from various events.

• Thursday starts at 5 p.m. when CNBC has a documentary about the business of Formula 1. At 5:30 CBS Sports Network has the World of Outlaws racing in the Founder’s Classic at Mesquite.

         -Then at 11:55 p.m. ESPN has the second Formula 1 practice from Las Vegas.

• Friday has an early start at 1:15 a.m. when www.espn3.com has the Formula 1 show. Then at 8:25 p.m. ESPN U has the third Formula 1 practice.

  • At 11:55 p.m., that is the right time, ESPN will air Formula 1 qualifying. The times are set for the fans in Europe.

• Saturday has a late start as ESPN, starting at 9:55 airs the Grand Prix of Las Vegas. It’s a street circuit that goes down the strip and circles around the dome as well as several casinos.

  • Once the race is over ESPN airs Formula 1 Checkered Flag.

• Up here in Northern Nevada starting at 10 p.m. www.mavtv.com has live coverage of the Endurocross event from the Livestock Events Center.

• Sunday has a lot of repeats but mavtv has a bunch of events they are showing. While their schedule page has many photos they left out the times so one needs to subscribe to that network.

Applications are being taken for the 2024 Team RMS.

• For those racing in the MRANN series it’s time to submit applications if a person wants to be on 2024 Team RMS.

Youngsters that race motocross can sign up to join Mini Moto Mouth Team.

• Any youngster racing motocross can apply to join one of the two Moto Mouth Mini Teams for 2024. Great way to start the new year.

Daveys American Racing follows local and national series.

Daveys American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
