BATTLE BORN MX AWARDS BANQUET

RENO, NV (Jan.20) — Those that race and support the Battle Born Motocross series assembled at Boomtown this Saturday.

Before things began there was a moment of silence honor BBMX member Seth Clark, who passed away in 2023. After that the board members and sponsors were honored.

This is just a small part of the raffle prizes offered at the banquet.

As usual there was a large amount of things sponsors gave that were raffled away during the banquet.

Many trophies, shirts and championship jackets were handed out during the awards ceremony.

In addition there were a large amount of trophies plus plaques for those riders being bumped up in class.

First awards were given to all the youngsters that rode in the Stacyc races.

After a great buffet dinner provided by Boomtown it was time to start handing out the hardware. First up were the youngest riders that rode in the Saturday afternoon Stacy races.

The youngest class of riders race single speed 50cc bikes. These youngsters are the future of the sport and when they are out there many of the parents are by the track cheering them on.

Wade Lavezzo was the 50cc, 6 & Under champion.

In the 6 & and Under class the champion was Wade Lavezzo followed by Suzuki Fayet, Mason Sperry and Tanner Hatfield.

Ducati Fayet was the 50cc 7 & Up champion.

Next rung on the age ladder are the 50cc 7 and Up riders. In 2023 Ducati Fayet was the champion followed by Clayton Yarborough, Rosalie Brogan and Kolten Bakken.

The 50cc Open combines riders from both age groups. Wade Lavezzo became a double winner when he earned this championship.

The 50cc Open class has riders from both age groups. Wade Lavezzo was the champion. The next five riders were Suzuki Fayet, Mason Sperry, Tanner Hatfield, Clayton Yarborough and Rosalie Brogan.

Moving up to the 65cc class means a rider has to learn to shift. Takes a bit of adjustment but most catch on quickly .

The 65cc Open champion is Billy Smith.

The 65cc Class is divided into a pair of age groups. The  9 & Under champion is Owen Brown while the 10 and Up champion is Billy Smith, who also scored the title in the 65cc Open class so was a double winner for the season. Second through four in the Open Class were Rowdy Cox, Charlie Bagan and Degan Jenkins.

Next up are the 85cc Classes. These are the last small bike divisions as the next step for a rider is the big bike classes.

Ryan Pacella was the 12 and Under champ while Rocket Richardson scored the 13 and Up crown. Robertson was the Open champ followed by Ryan Pacella, Zachary Purvis and Travis Cano.

The 85cc champion is Rocket Richardson, who won this, the 13 and Over plus in Superemini. He scored three crowns in his last small bike season.

Robertson, in his final small bike year, also won the Supermini title. This meant in 2023 he earned three championships.

Now we get into the Big Bike classes. First up are the 125/250 Sportsman divisions.

The 125/250 Sportsman title was close. Joshua Black only won the title by two points over runner up Zachary Larsen.

Luis Hill Jr., is the D winner while Hub Losey, in his final season here, won the Sportsman C crown. The B division had the closest finish as Joshua Black finished just two points ahead of runner up Zachary Larsen followed by third place James Larsen.

Moving into the 250/450 Sportsman Classes A.J. Hubbard won the D Division while Rylan Padgett earned the C crown and Zachary Larsen was the B Champion.

Zachary Larsen made it a triple when he not only won the Open A&B title but also won the Collegeboy title.

In the Open A&B Class Zachary Larson scored his second crown with a win while Logan Larive was the runner up.

Larson became a triple-crown winner when he earned the Collegeboy championship and Joshua Black was the Schoolboy champion. Timothy Trainer scored the 2-Stroke Open crown.

The Women’s C champion is Brooklyn Baker.

Now we move toward the upper rungs of the age ladder. In 30+ D Michael Walker was the champion. In the C division William Botto won that crown.

It was a close on in the 30+ B division. Samuel Hitchborn edged out runner up Tony Lavezzo by only 4 points.

The 30+ B was very close as winner Samuel Hitchborn scored the crown by just over four points over runner up Tony Lavezzo. In the A division Logan Larive is the champion while James Swain won the Master crown.

Another close title chase came in the 38+ D division when Nick Bakken won the title by five points over runner-up Clint Miller.

Chris Padgett won the 38+ B after a tie breaker. Runner up Jason Simpson wasn’t there so friends took his place on the podium.

John Hatfield won the C crown and, after a tie breaker Chris Padgett won the 38+ B crown with Jason Simpson the runner up.

At the top of the age group are two Classes. In 45+ D it was William Ratcliff and Scotty Guthrie took the A crown. Sadly the 52+ C champion Bill Whalen was unable to attend the banquet.

When the ceremony ended this reporter had a chance to get some thoughts from BBMX president Tony Lavezzo.

BBMX President Tony Lavezzo is looking forward to the 2024 season and more races in Nevada.

“We’re looking forward to this coming season, we have a lot more races in Nevada and we’re coming back to the Sand Box,” he said. “Still checking out our tracks in California, which is good cause we have great relationships over there.

“We’re exited we have more Nevada races, it’s been my goal, kind of tough for a couple of years  but we’re definitely excited going strong into ’24.”

Asked about the rider count he said, “The rider count has been pretty stable since COVID, our entries have been pretty consistent. I would say I expect the same if not better next year.

“We always do worry about fuel, the economy and how all that’s going. We try to schedule it in a way so there is enough of a break so we don’t have that issue.”

Here is the 2024 schedule for Battle Born MX.

Now everyone has just over a month before that first race. The event is at Winnemucca MX in mid March then it’s back to the Ferney Sandbox.
