RACING PREVIEW: FEBRUARY 8 TO 11

RENO, NV (Feb. 7) — This week will have a national event visiting Reno as well as some car meets. Looks like this time the weather might cooperate for the outdoor meets.

NATIONAL EVENT:

The AMA Arenacross series visits the Reno Livestock Events Center for three days of action.

• I’m going to start at bit different this week. The national AMA Arenacross series visits the Livestock Events Center for three days of racing this weekend.

-If one wants tickets Big Valley Honda has them so you don’t have to go through one of those Internet agencies or stop at the box office. That way you’ll have them when you arrive.

  • Friday and Saturday features the AX Pro racers as well as the AX Amateurs. Racing begins at 7:30 each evening but those that get there early can see practice sessions. One can also sign up for full access to the series.
  • Sunday, after the track is modified, is for amateurs. Sign ups are from 8 until 9:30 then practice begins at 10 a.m. Around noon the heat races will start, followed by and needed LCQ races then the mains will begin. It will be a full afternoon of motocross action.

CAR MEETS:

Thursday starts early as the Iron Mafia meets at Kim’s Donuts in Gardnerville.

RACING (4-Wheel):

• While none of the Northern Nevada tracks are open yet here are two more schedules.

Here is the 2024 schedule for Quincy Speedway.
  • The former American Valley Speedway is now the Quincy, Speedway. The track has the usual classes plus guest appearances by Sprint Cars and Dwarf Cars.
Here is the 2024 Northern Nevada Kart Club schedule.
  • The Northern Nevada Kart Club has also released its 2024 schedule. This year they’ll start with a swap meet in March then start racing in April.
  • One of the races will be run in reverse direction and there will be a vintage kart weekend. The Gold Rush Series will visit the track and the annual night race is August 24,

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• While the AMA Arenacross takes center stage in our area there are other things happening as well.

MMX Racing will be busy this weekend with Rumble at the River Bottom.

• MMX Racing is going to host the Rumble at the River Bottom this weekend. Two days of motocross action on the track.

MMX Racing will have one practice day this week.
  • There will be practice from noon until dark on Thursday. Both the sand and kids tracks will be used.

• When this article was posted there was no word on the REP Racing MX tracks. Going to depend on the weather so best advice is to check with their web pages.

  • So I’m going to guess and hope the weather is good.  Riverfront MX will have practice from 5 until 10 Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • Prairie City has practice scheduled from 9 until 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. E Street MX park usually has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • With Sunday being amateur day at the Arenacross event I’m guessing the Fernley Sandbox will be closed this weekend. Just in case be sure to check first.

RACING (NATIONAL):

• Very slim this weekend but things should pick up after Super Bowl weekend. On Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Hub.

• Friday is empty so one might check with www.youtube.com for free highlights. There are several subscription services like www.speedsport.tv, www.mavtv.com, www.dirtvision.com and www.motortrendondemand.com.

The AMA Supercross season moves to Glendale, Arizona this week. Track map courtesy – swapmotolive.com.

• Saturday is when the AMA Supercross series visits Glendale, Arizona. Peacock will carry Race Day Live starting at noon then at 5:30 p.m. the network airs the race itself.

• Sunday is another empty day as that’s when the Superbowl is being played.

Well that’s it for this weekend. Want everyone to have a safe time and be sure to attend a car meet or be at the Livestock Event Center for some great motocross action.
