AMA ARENACROSS SERIES ROARS INTO RENO

RENO, NV (Feb. 11) — The AMA Arenacross series visited the Reno Livestock Events Center this weekend. Pros raced Friday and Saturday then Sunday was a blur of amateur motocross racing.

Round 10 of the series was Saturday night and like Friday it was a series of Heat Races, Semi Mains plus two LCQ to make up the final AX Pro field.

Young Tallan Smith swept all the Micro Open Limited mains.

During that time young Tallan Smith made it a double as he swept the Micro Open Limited for 4 to 8 year-olds on both days. These stars of tomorrow race 50cc bikes on the same track as the pros.

Two brothers from Sparks swept both A/B Allstar races. Here Zarchary Larsen flies past the finish line.

In the A/B Allstar main two brothers from Sparks made it a sweep of the weekend. Zachary Larsen and his brother James finished one-two both days.

Before the AX Pro Main there a 1V1 race pitting three riders racing for more money. In the end Ryan Breece won followed by Austin Politelli and Devin Harriman.

The AX B main overall winner was Cody Groves.

Like any motocross there were a pair of AX Pro mains. After the first one the field was inverted, meaning the top finishers started on the second row.

In the first race Izaih Clark was on point but soon Ryan Breece took over the lead. Then later Kyle Peters worked his way into second and they finished in that order.

The final started with Kyle Bitterman on point followed by Breece and points leader Peters. Soon Bitterman fell back while Breece and Peters started leaving everyone in their wake.

Local Aaron Siminoe did make it into Saturday’s AX Pro main but did not finish the race.

Although not making Friday’s main local Aaron Siminoe used his runner up in a LCQ to make the AX Main. However he eventually pulled out of the race and finished 12th in both mains.

Ryan Breece on his way to winning the second AX Pro race on Saturday.

At the finish Breece had about a three second gap over runner up Peters. In the overall standings Austin Politelli finished third ahead of fourth place Bitterman.

A rider’s combined finish determines their final standings.

Completing his sweep of all the AX Pro mains Ryan Breece salutes the fans as he takes the final checkered flag.

After his sweep of the weekend Breece, who is still second in points said, “Oh man that feels good, really does, we have a good crowd here in Reno. Just excited to come back here as it’s been a lot of years,.

“ I’m an Idaho boy so this is kind of familiar weather. What a glory, really was.  I think nine points is the gap so we’re just going to keep on striving. It was danged near packed tonight and I appreciated all these fans.”

At the end of Saturday’s event Breece had closed to within 9 points of. 4-time series champion Peters. This on the largest venue the series races on.

Points leader, and 4-time series champion, Kyle Peters was second in all the AX Pro mains.

Asked about the weekend Peters said, “Felt good, riding is getting better finally over being sick there for a little while so that really hurt me. Overall, two-two on the night and last night as well.

“Not what we want obviously, we’re still in the driver’s seat for the championship. We’ll get out of this elevation and the 450’s won’t have such a big advantage.”

• Friday was Round 9 of the series. Young Tallan Smith began his sweep of the weekend when he won the Micro Open Limited 4-to-8-year-olds main, The Larsen brothers from Sparks also began their sweep by finishing one-two in the A/B Main.

When the final AX Pro began Ryan Breece didn’t lead until a lap or so. Once on point Izaih Clark was second until Kyle Peters caught and passed him for the runner up spot.

Up front Breece kept extending his lead and this win meant he swept Friday’s races. Peters also wound up with two runner up finishes to keep his championship quest alive.
