RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 7 TO 10

RENO, NV (March 6) — March has arrived, this weekend we go to Daylight Savings Time and racing is ramping up. Soon there will be more cruising as well.

CAR MEETS:

• The Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling at 8 a.m. with their weekly meet at Kim’s Donuts. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• The weekly Friday Night Meet in Fernley has a 4:30 p.m. start time. Meeting place is the 76th Station.

Sparks Cars & Coffee at 10 a.m. Sunday has another meet. Cartoon courtesy – Charles Schaun Doyle.

• Sparks Cars & Coffee meets, starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, by the Starbucks on Disc Drive. Take Pyramid, head north and as one goes over the hill where a shopping center is located Disc Drive is the first light.

RACING (4-Wheel):

• Still is nothing in Northern Nevada this weekend. But by the end of the month there will be racing in our part of the state.

The Mint 400 is this weekend. It appears both Friday and Sunday are race days. The race days will be live streamed.

• To the south this is the weekend of the B.F. Goodrich Mint 400 desert race. The event started Wednesday and runs through Sunday. It appears Friday and Sunday are race days. For further information please check, www.themint400.com.

First Dwarf Car Nationals of the year is this Saturday.

• Further south some Northern Nevada Dwarf Car drivers might be running in the first national race of the year. Location is at Mohave Valley Raceway and it will be live streamed on www.speeduniontv.com.

PRACTICE AND RACING (MOTOCROSS):

• The Fernley Sandbox  practice has from 10 until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Those wishing to practice need to sign up online at, www.repracingmx.com.

The Frigid 8 series is at E Street MX this weekend.

• E Street MX is busy this weekend. On Saturday gates open at 8 a.m. with practice from 9 until 2 using the front track only. Sunday gates open at 6:30 a.m., there is a short practice session at 8 a.m. and after that it’s Round 3 of this year’s Pro MX Frigid 8 Winter Series.

• Riverfront MX has practice from 4 until 9 p.m. on Thursday. Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. is a private ride day while Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. is open practice.

• Prairie City, from 9 until 2 p.m. has practice Saturday and Sunday.

MMX Racing has practice Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

• MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 Saturday using the main, sand and kids tracks. Then Sunday runs from 9 until 3 p.m. with the vintage track is added to the mix.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday starts at 5:25 a.m. when ESPNU has Formula 1 practice from Saudi Arabia. Then at 8:55 ESPN 2 has the second practice session.

  • At 3 p.m.  Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

• Friday begins at 8:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying. Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has ARCA Racing from Phoenix.

• Saturday is a busy day for racing. Things start at 8:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Saudi Arabia

  • Fox Sports 2 at 9 a.m. has the NHRA Qualifying Show from Gainsville, Florida then at 9:30 a.m. the network airs Xfinity practice and qualifying from Phoenix.

         – Peacock at 10:30 a.m. has Supercross qualifying then at 4 p.m. they show the next round of the AMA Supercross series from Birmingham, Alabama.

  • Fox Sports 1 at 11 a.m. has NASCAR Cup qualifying then at 1:30 p.m. broadcasts the Xfinity race from Phoenix. Finally at 4 p.m. the network has the NHRA Top Fuel All-Star Call Out from Gainesville.

• Sunday begins on NBC at 9:30 a.m. when the Indy Car series has its season opener from St. Petersburg, Florida.

  • Although it was run on Saturday, www.mavtv.com will show, on a delayed basis, at 9:30 a.m., the Daytona 200. Motorcycles on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway.
  • At 8:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying Show #2.

  • Fox at 12:30 p.m. air the NASCAR Cup Race from Phoenix International Raceway. This time the teams face the challenge of a 1-mile track.
  • Finally the weekend ends at 6 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the season opening NHRA Gaternationals from Gainesville, Florida.
