BBMX AT THE FERNLEY SANDBOX

FERNLEY, NV (MARCH 31) — The second round of the 2024 Battle Born MX series was held at the Fernley Sand Box on Easter Day. The started off slick and pits were a bit muddy from Saturday’s rain but the cold north wind helped dry things out.

Pee Wees are launched for their first motos.

There was a huge turn out despite the weather. In the 50cc Class the Open race has 23 starters while the 6 & Under group had 21 on the gate while 7 & Up had 19 starters.

The 65cc and 85cc classes also had large numbers on the starting gates. With so many younger racers this speaks well for the future of motocross in this region.

The 250/4450 C start.

Many of the big bike classes also had a large number of riders. In fact the 125/250 D class actually had 43 riders on the starting gate. These are the young riders that moved up from the 85cc class.

James Larsen won the Schoolboy motos.

Between Schoolboy and Collegeboy there were 15 riders. At the end of the day James Larsen was the schoolboy winner.

Lily Powning used a strong ride to win the overall and Woman’s A class.

The Women’s classes had a decent turn out with Lily Powning taking the A and overall victory. Jayla Baxter won the B class while Christina Courtney was the C winner.

While not in the oldest class Michael Jepsen used a win and third place finish to take the overall in the 30+ Master class.

Not to be left the older classes had some pretty good rider counts as well. In the 30+ Master Class Michael Jepsen was the overall winner.

Despite one passing shower, the day want on although things started a bit later than expected. In the end it took 42 motos to include everyone.

Now the racers can thaw out and get ready for the next round in two weeks.
