RENO, NV (April 10) — Well, spring is kind of here so there are more car meets and oval track season is getting going. Of course some of this depends on the weather so check what happening before heading to a track or event.
CAR MEETS:
• The Iron Mafia, starting at 8 a.m. Thursday gets the weekend rolling. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• Friday is an off day as the Fernley Cruises are switching to monthly and get rolling next month.
• Saturday is one busy day. Fallon Cars “N” Coffee, at 8:30 a.m. gets things rolling. Location is the Alley Bar located at 1555 S. Taylor Street in Fallon.
- If one is in Yerington there is the Off-Road Anaconda Poker Run. Gets going at 8 a.m. and for further information please go to, www.nevadapokerrun,com.
- In Winnemuca they have the 2nd Annual All Club Meet up. It’s free, starts at 11 a.m. and is at the Indoor Events Center located at 1000 Fairgrounds Road.
- Closer to Reno the Obsolete Iron Club is hosting the first Hamburger and Chocolate Tour. The noon meet and greet is at Scoopers in Sparks and the cruise heads south to the Chocolate Factory on Old 395 in Washoe Valley.
- Down in Carson City the Reno Mustang Car Club is celebrating the Mustang’s 60th birthday. Event starts at 3 pm. and location is Capital Ford, which is at 3660 South Carson Street.
- At 5:30 p.m. there is the Reno JDM Car Meet and the location is 4813 Kietzke Lane in Reno.
- Saturday, starting at 6 p.m. is the first Evo Event of the Year. Location is 4809 Kietzke Lane.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee meets from 10 until noon at the Starbucks located off Disc Drive in Sparks.
RACING (REGIONAL 4-WHEEL):
• If the weather gods smile on us Lovelock Speedway has its season opener this weekend. Friday racing starts at 7 p.m. and at 6 p.m. Saturday. If an IMCA class has 15 entries on Saturday there is a $1,000 prize for winning the race.
• Members of the Northern Nevada Kart Club participate in track work-days. This weekend it happens on Sunday, April 14th.
- There is a new shop catering to kart racers that has its grand opening and BBQ starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. Cashed Out Racing is located at 66 East Glendale Avenue in Sparks.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• The Fernley Sandbox from 10 until 3 p.m. Saturday is having DCMXRideDay. Sunday is open practice from 10 until 3 p.m. but one must register at www.repracingmx.com.
• Round 6 of this year’s PRO MX Winter Series for the Frigid 8 is at the Argyll course.
• MMX Racing has practice Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. on the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks. Then Sunday from 9 until 3 p.m. the three tracks will be in action but the Vintage track has OSMX Ride Day.
• E Street MX hosts BBMX Round 3 this weekend. Sign ups are now open, practice is Saturday and Sunday is race day.
- Things have changed at E Street so everyone, riders and spectators, must register to be in the facility. There will be an iPAD at the gate but easiest way is on, www.estreetmxpark.com and registration is good for the rest of the year.
• Riverfront MX has practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. However any practice for this track and Prairie City depends on how much rain they get. Best bet is to check before heading to the track
RACING (NATIONAL):
• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 6 p.m. www.mavtv has Supercars.
• Friday starts at 5:30 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 airs the Craftsman Truck Series race from Texas, Then at 8 p.m. the network broadcasts the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from the Strip at Las Vegas.
• Saturday Peacock, at 10:30 a.m. airs Race Day live. Then at 4 p.m. broadcasts the AMA Supercross from Foxborouth, Mass. Fox Sports 1, also at 10:30 a.m. airs the Xfinity race from Texas.
• Sunday begins at 8 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Qualifying #2 from Las Vegas. Then at 11:30 a.m. TBS airs the Moto GP race from Cota.
- Fox Sports 1 at 11 a.m. has the NASCAR Cup race from Texas Motor Speedway. Another high-speed oval to challenge the drivers and teams.
- The day ends at 4 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the final rounds of the Las Vegas Nationals. This is a 4-wide drag strip so it should be a wild day for racers and fans.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• Legacy Racing had some news. Motorcycles, quads and Three Wheelers have their entries fees cut in half for the Frontier 500 race.
- After consulting with the BLM and finding part of the course is flooded the finish line for the Frontier has been changed. The race will now end at Top Gun Drag Strip located south of Fallon.
- • Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so to check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
