RENO, NV (April 17) — Great weather ushers in a fantastic weekend for car lovers, curisers and race fans. In addition there are some fantastic races on TV as well.
CAR MEETS:
• Thursday begins at 8:30 a.m. when the Iron Mafia meets at Kim’s Donuts in Gardnerville. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North.
• Friday has two events and both are in Fernley.
- From 6 until 9 p.m. it’s the year’s first Friday Night Cruise. These are now monthly and main street is the route.
- That same evening, starting at 6:30 p.m. the weekly Friday Night meet happens. Meeting place is in front of the 76th station.
• On Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. the Nevada Jeep Club is having its Carson River Trail Run that ends at a hot springs. Meeting place is at DST Coffee located at 1411 395 North in Gardnerville.
- There is a Show & Shine in Fallon Saturday. It’s at the 3C Arena at 325 Sheckler Road. The event helps the Agape Church School.
• Sunday has three events happening.
- At 10 a.m. Reno Cars & Coffee meets by the Human Bean Coffee Stand located near the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.
- At the corner of South McCarran and Longely Lane at that Human Bean Coffee Stand is where Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets. This also has a 10 a.m. starting time.
- At the National Auto Museum, starting at 10 a.m. Race Cars & Coffee presents a display of some cars the late Paul Newman races. Once one has seen those, wander around and see what else the museum has on display.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• This weekend regional oval track racing gets going for real and the weather should be perfect.
- To the east Summit Raceway in Elko starts it’s 40th anniversary season. Racing begins at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings.
- Closer to home Rattlesnake Raceway, located east of downtown Fallon begins its 2024 season. The have special rate for kids on Friday and there is a kids bike giveaway on Saturday.
- The regular classes will be racing. On Saturday the Sierra Nevada Sprint Car series begins its season.
• On Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club starts its 2024 season at Desert Park Raceway. One can pre-register or do it in person. The website is www.nnkcreno.com.
• To the south the Legacy Racing Association is hosting its Frontier 500 from Pahrump to Yerington.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS & SXS)
• This weekend the Fernley Sandbox has open practice from 10 until 3 p.m. Remember one has to register online at www.repracingmx.com.
• Over the hill E Street MX begins the 2024 SXS series. Friday has practice from 6 until 6 p.m. Saturday has practice at 8 a.m. with racing to follow and Sunday has just racing.
• MMX racing has a busy weekend as on Sunday the track hosts the series ending Round 8 of this year’s PRO MX Winter Series called the Frigid 8.
• Riverfront MX has Thursday practice from 5 until 10 p.m. then Saturday is DCMXRideDay from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday from 9 until 2 p.m. is open practice on all tracks.
• Prairie City hosts the Sierra OTHG Nationals. Friday has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. then Saturday gates open at 6:30, practice at 8 a.m. with racing to follow and Sunday has that same schedule.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday starts at 3p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 8:25 p.m. ESPNU has the first Formula 1 practice from Shanghai, China.
• Friday starts at 2:50 p.m. when Peacock has Indy Car practice #1 from Long Beach. Then at 4:55 the network airs the IMSA Weather Tech Sportcar practice also from Long Beach.
- ESPN at 11:55 p.m. has Formula 1 practice #2 from China.
• Fox Sports 1 at 7:30 a.m. gets Saturday rolling when they air NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying from Talladega Super Speedway. Then at 8:25 a.m. Peacock has Indy Car practice #2 from Long Beach. At 9:30 a.m. Fox Sports comes back to broadcast the ARCA Racing event at Talladega.
- Peacock at 10:30 a.m. starts Race Day Live then at 4 p.m. airs the current AMA Supercross round from Nashville.
- Fox at 1 p.m. airs the Xfinity race from Tallega then at 1:30 p.m. USA & Peacock broadcasts the IMSA Weather Tech Sportcar race from Long Beach.
- The day ends at 11:55 p.m. when ESPN has the Formula 1 race from Shanghai, China.
• On Sunday www.motortrendondemand.com has the World Endurance race from Imola, Italy. The first part is at 3:30 a.m. followed at 9 a.m. with the second part. Peacock comes on at 9 a.m. with the Indy Car Warm Up from Long Beach.
- FOX, starting at noon, airs the NASCAR Cup race from Talladega. It can be a wild race with the high speeds and how close the cars are racing.
- The USA and Peacock, starting at noon, have the Indy Car race from the streets of Long Beach. Drivers have to be inch perfect as they race between the walls lining the course.

• For those racers wanting to compete in the Stadium GP remember you can only sign up on line. The site is, www.stadiumgp.com.
• On Saturday, probably starting around 8 a.m., Club Rowdy, the group that puts on drifting events, is having a Hot Patch Day at the Reno-Fernley Raceway road course. Be sure to bring gloves and other things like a shovel to help with the clean up.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so to check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
