RENO, NV (April 24) — Might be a bit of weather going through the area but the weekend looks good. Two oval tracks open their season, there are several car meets and an annual classic off-road race is this weekend.
CAR MEETS:
• Once again Thursday has an early start at 8 a.m. when the Iron Mafia has its weekly meet. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• The Friday Night Meet at Fernley is on and starts around 6 p.m. by the 76th Station on Main Street.
• On Saturday The Street Habits presents the 775 Gathering. Hours are 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. but the location won’t be listed until Saturday.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee has a meet Sunday with a 10 a.m. start time. Location is by the Starbucks on Disc Drive in Sparks.
RACING (4-Wheel):
• Drifting is a different kind of racing but Club Rowdy is having a three-day event this weekend. It’s the Spring Fling Drift Party and the location is the road course at the Reno-Fernley Raceway.
- The course is located south of Fernley on 95A and the day should start around 8 or 9 a.m. One can also sign up for a ride along.
• Quincy Speedway is starting its season this Friday evening. Racing should start at 6 p.m. that evening.
• Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville, Calif. starts its season Saturday night. The start time is usually 6 p.m.
- The Sierra Nevada Sprint Car Series will visit the Quincy Speedway and Diamond Mountain Speedway openers.
- For drivers racing this weekend Grace Productions Motorsports Photography will be at both races. Good way to get pictures one can give sponsors and they would make a nice Mother’s Day present.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• This weekend the annual Virginia City Grand Prix happens. Racing starts at 10 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Since it draws riders from all over one would be well served to get there early.
- Saturday features the Pros, Experts and Amateurs and four hours after the green waves the checkered comes out. Saturday has Novice, Women, Veterans, Vintage as well as other classes, That race is a three-hour timed event.
• Closer to home the Fernley Sandbox, located just west of the Veteran’s Cemetery will have practice from 10 until 3 p.m. Sunday. Riders need to register online at, www.repracingmx.com.
• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday.
• Prairie City will be busy as the track hosts the Sierra Motocross Classic. On Friday gates open at 8 a.m. and practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. that day.
- Saturday and Sunday the gates oen at 6:30, practice starts at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.
• E Street MX Park should have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• MMX is very busy this weekend. There is practice Saturday and Sunday from 9 until 2 p.m. on the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks.
- The Vintage track is where the Original CZ World Champions event is being held and Friday is for Practice. The weekend is two days of racing with a Bike Show on Saturday.
- I’m including the full schedule for the racing weekend. Should be an action packed time.
• The final round of this year’s PRO MX Winter Series, or the Frigid 8, will be run Sunday. This time the series moves to the Oatfield MX track.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday, at 3 p.m., Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. This week the series visits Dover International Speedway.
• Friday gets going at 4 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the ARCA Racing event from Dover.
• Saturday starts at 5:30 a.m. when CBS Sports Network presents Round 8 of the Formula E series from Monaco.
-Then at 6:30 a.m. Peacock has Race Day Live from the Supercross site. NBC takes over at noon and broadcast the AMA Supercross round from Philadelphia.
- That same morning at 10:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Xfinity race from Dover.
• Sunday starts on TruTV when that network broadcasts the MOTO GP race from Jerez, Spain.
- At 8 a.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from the 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte.
- Peacock comes back at 10:30 a.m. when that network broadcasts the Indy Car race from Barber Motorsports Park.
- Fox Sports 1 at 11 a.m. shows the NASCAR Cup event from Dover International Speedway. This is usually an action packed event.
- Finally at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the final rounds at the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina.
