VIRGINIA CITY, NV (April 28) — Another spring like day greeted riders for day two of the Virginia City Grand Prix. This second day is for Novice racers and includes many classes including a few classes that race on a short course.

No matter which course a rider uses it’s always a challenge. On Sunday morning there were 485 racers lined up on C Street for the 3-hour timed event. Of those 373 finished while 112 were DNF.

This was the most riders the event has seen in the past few years.

Just like Saturday there are two Head Start positions auctioned off. The numbers on these bikes were then changed to “0” and “00.”

There is also the Vintage Class and winner Jason Shakespeare was so fast he did five laps on the short courses.

Now that Sunday is over the Comstock is quiet again. But at the end of next April the Grand Prix will sing its siren song and riders from many places will head for Virginia City.

In fact one of this year’s racers drove, with his girl friend, all the way from North Carolina to race at the VCGP.

So next April again racers will line up and create Thunder on the Comstock.

REPORTER’S NOTE: First of all I want to express my appreciation for all the volunteers that make the VCGP possible. Set up takes a couple of weeks and they are spending a few more days collecting everything. A big shout to the Medix and Sweeps that ride the course and are there to help any rider that needs them.

I also want to thank Moto-Tally for their score keeping and the announcers, Tina Honea and her partner Paul Ziegler for their great work.
