PATRIOTIC WEEKEND: TWO CAR MEETS + A CRUISE IN

RENO, NV (July 6) — The July 4th weekend ended with two meets plus a cruise-in on Sunday afternoon. It ended a very busy weekend for the car and jeep crowd.

Reno Jeeps & Coffee had their first meet of the month Sunday morning.

• Reno Jeeps & Coffee got things started by the Human Bean Coffee Stand located at the corner of Longley Lane and South McCarran. As usual things got off to a slow start then other Jeep owners started joining the group.

Many compare what they’ve done to their Jeeps plus going over a few things that have been causing the owners some problems.

This Jeep had an assortment of ducks on its dashboard.

Lately some Jeep owners have been collecting small plastic duck figures and gluing them to the top of their dashboards. One Jeep had a large collection of these.

• Not far away, by the Human Bean Coffee Stand that’s near the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes there was another meet. The host was. Reno Cars & Coffee and the turn out was pretty good.

Reno Cars & Coffee also started the month with a pretty good turn out.

As usual there were lines of cars, some imports while others were domestic.

There are always comparisons in the mix. Here a French Citroen is parked behind an Italian Lamborghini.

Parked close to each other were two cars. One was a Citroen from France that was original created for farm work while behind it was as new Lamborghini, that’s about a different contrast as one can get.

Over on one row was an American classic that is owned by Bob Rose.

Bob Rose stands by his Cobra.

Asked about the car he said, “This is a ’65 427 SC and it was built by Shelby but its not one of the originals, this is one of their continuation versions. It’s the same as the original except with a fiberglass body rather than the lightweight, delicate aluminum.

“Got the same frame, suspension all that the engine is even an old cast iron 427. The big thing is I made it a bit more reliable as had to swap out the distributor. I put the vents in the foot boxes because it gets so hot driving it in hot weather.”

He added that hot weather causes the motor to slowly over heat. So he’s been working on that.

“The big thing last winter I got a shroud and managed to squeeze one in the radiator. I’m still driving it to see if that kind of cures its tendency to slowly overheat in traffic. So far it seems to be working pretty well.”

He mentioned going up to Virginia City or up the Mount Rose Highway is always fun. He mentioned with the new body it only weighs about 2,500 pounds and just goes.

“its got lots of power and the nice thing is that now I have confidence in it. Last weekend we went for an almost 200 mile drive in it. It’s not really easy getting in and out but its very comfortable once you’re in it. I’ve had it just a touch over 5 years as I bought it during Covid.”

This car had one of the more creative paint jobs at the meet.

There were a few some very different paint jobs that were on display.

This owner had the hood raised so people could see the motor in his Subaru.

Several cars had their motors on display including this Subaru.

At the Summit Cruise-In this Beautiful 1964 Chevy was parked beside two T-Bucket roadsters.

• The afternoon there was a Cruise-in at Summit Racing of East Glendale in Sparks. While the turn out could have been better there were a variety of cars on display.

On row had a beautiful 1964 Chevy parked next to a pair of t-Buckets roadsters. Further up that row there was a Barracuda had a soft figure in front of it.
