RENO, NV (March 28) — This was a very full weekend and as a result there are two articles on this webpage. The first concerned the Reno RV & Boat Show that also had the Off-Road Motorsports Expo. This one is about the other things that happened.
This edition is about the upcoming Stadium GP, a Friday Night Bike Ride and finally Cars & Cream that really should be listed as Cars & Ice Cream.
• On Thursday evening at South-40 the Stadium GP held a volunteer meeting. The goal was to sign up volunteers as well as explaining what things were going to work this time around.

The primary organizer is Tina Honea and she essentially, with help from the staff and volunteers, has run the event.
Asked about the event she said, “It’s going great, we are building up to our third annual Stadium GP, May 14th through the 16th. In the past getting volunteers has been a little big harder as we build some momentum we have people that are excited to be a volunteer and we have about 50 people here tonight.

“Thursday night, that’s our kickoff night, we have a concert with an 80’s cover band coming up from Hollywood called Fast Times. And then Friday and Saturday nights it’s going to be all of your night show races, from 7 until 10.”
During the evening Honea introduced the woman that is heading the volunteers. This year each group will have a lead so they don’t always have to get ahold of Tina for a suggestion.
Honea also mentioned there will be a volunteer area at the stadium with things to drink and some food.
One thing they asked is for the volunteers to sign a release and this year’s t-shirts were handed out. All in all it was a good meeting and a couple of more will probably be scheduled so everyone is ready to go when the event weekend begins.

• There is a group catering to the street bike riders that, weather permitting has rides on Friday evenings and they meet at the Maverick station located at Sutro and North McCarran. Robert Van Rossum heads the group, which is the Reno Bike Community.

He said, “We do Friday night rides starting usually mid March or April and we go through until Halloween. We meet here at 6 every night and we go kickstands up at 7.
He was very happy as Van Rossum was on his brand new bike.

“I just got the GSXR 1000, just picked it up yesterday and I traded my other one in.”

He added that with the weather coming in there might not be a ride on Friday, April 3rd and he would put a notice out on Tuesday.
• Saturday evening had the most tasty meet of all. It was Cars & Cream sponsored by Handels Ice Cream, which usually gets a large turn out.

There were all types of vehicles including a green Lamborghini parked next to a black Porsche and both were close to the Handel’s pop up, where the crew had items for the kids as well as discount tickets for ice cream.

Over on one row were two American Classics. A red Corvette parked next to a purple restored Chevrolet sedan.

When asked about the car owner Dick Barker said, “It’s a 55 Chevy with a 468 Turbo 400 and a Ford 9 inch rear end. I built every piece of it as it was boy parts when I got it.”

Asked how it drives he said, “ Like a new car. It’s got a Camaro sub frame so I got better suspension.”

Over on another row was a Ford T-Rod. This one had a bull body and a nice green paint job.
There were so many cars and trucks they took up two front-to-back double rows as well as another two rows with single parking spaces.

Another vintage car, probably originally built in the 1930’s, was a beautiful coupe. The restoration was first class.
• There was almost nothing for Sunday as it was the fifth weekend of the month. Next Sunday Reno Jeeps and Coffee will assemble at a new location then head out on a cruise. Reno Cars and Coffee will meet at the regular place by the Human Bean near the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.
