RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: APRIL 30 TO MAY 4

RENO, NV (April 29) – Now we’re heading into April and not only is racing going but there are car meets plus a motorcycle cruise. Not to mention what is on TV and the Internet.

REPORTER’S NOTE: Wednesday evening was very busy so this report is on the late side. 

CAR & MOTORCYCLE MEETS:

Kims Cruisers start the weekend when they meet at Kim’s Donut and Tea House.

• Thursday begins the weekend as Kim’s Cruisers assemble around 7 a.m. at Kim’s Donut & Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

Kyle Petty’s Charity Ride makes a stop in Fallon on Friday.

• There is a special event on Friday. The 30th Anniversary Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America makes a stop in Fallon. At 12:30 p.m. they’ll be at Fox Peak Station at 615 E. Williams Avenue. There are several NASCAR stars that will be there and it’s a great chance to meet them.

• Carson Cars & Coffee has a Friday evening meet. Starts at 6:15 and is at the Dutch Brothers Coffee Stand at 1231 South Carson Street.

• Friday is when the Reno Bike Community has their weekly ride. Assembly point is the Maverick’s station at the corner of Sutro and North McCarran. Meet begins at 6 p.m. with kickstands up at 7.

The National Law Enforcement Ride starts at the memorial in Idelwild Park and goes to Virginia City.

• Saturday starts early as the 13th annual Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial Ride starts at 9 a.m. by the memorial in Idlewild Park in Reno. Then the bikes and cars will cruise up to Virginia City for a parade.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville has its annual car show on Saturday.
  • Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville starting at 9 a.m. has its 13th annual Car Show. Location is 1480 Douglas Ave., an there is a Tri Tip Lunch available.
Reno Mustang Car Club has a cruise from Reno to Fallon on Saturday.
  • The Reno Mustang Club is having the Frey Ranch Distillery Cruise. Meet starts at 10 a.m. at RDW Automotive atr 1189 Telegraph Street in Reno. From they will cruise to Fallon.
Kars & Karts is having a Cinco de Mayo meet on Saturday at Need2Speed.
  • Need2Speed is hosting a Cinco de Mayo Kars & Karts Car Meet and Patio Party.  Times are noon to 3 p.m. and the location is 2863 Northtowne Lane, the shopping center by where 590 North meets North McCarran.
Cars & Cream meets Saturday by Handel’s Ice Cream.
  • Later that day, from 6 until 8 p.m., Cars & Cream has a meet sponsored by Handel’s Ice Cream. It’s by the Starbucks in Summit Mall at 13987 South Virginia Street.

• Sunday begins at 10 a.m. when Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets at the Human Bean Coffee stand at 3915 S, McCarran Blvd. From there, starting at noon, the group will cruise Jumbo Grade, which is an easy trail.

  • Also at 10 a.m. Reno Cars & Coffee meets by the Human Bean located by the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes. This usually gets a pretty good turn out.
On Sunday Northern Nevada Classics has a swap meet at Baldini’s.
  • That same day, from 7a.m. until 2 p.m. Northern Nevada Classics is having a Swap Meet at Baldini’s Casino. Location is 865 South Rock Blvd. in Sparks.
Cars & Coffee is hosting a birthday bash on Sunday.
  • Also on Sunday from 10 until noon Cars & Coffee is hosting Chelsea’s Birthday Bash. Location is at Low Boos Performance at 1575 Glendale Ave., Suite A.
Gardnerville Cars & Coffee is hosting a Cinco de Mayo BBQ on Sunday.
  • Gardnerville Cars & Coffee has a Cinco de Mayo BBQ. Starts Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and is located at Lampe Park.

RACING (4- WHEEL):

On Saturday the Lovelock Speedway hosts an East VS West Open Wheel Showdown.

• On Saturday Lovelock Speedway, starting at 6 p.m., has the East vs West Open Wheel Showdown. All the classes are included and there should be some good sprint car racing.

NNKC is asking for volunteers to help get their newly paved track ready for racing.

• This off season the Northern Nevada Kart Club has been working on repaving its track, Desert Raceway Park. They need volunteers to help getting the track ready for racing. The track is located on the dirt extension of Lemmon Drive.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

There is practice at the Reno-Fernley Raceway motocross track on Saturday.

• The motocross track at Reno-Fernley Raceway will have practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday.

REP Racing MX has a busy weekend at two of its tracks.

• REP Racing MX has a busy weekend at two of its tracks. Riverfront MX will be busy Thursday, Friday then Saturday is a DCMX Rideday while Sunday is another open practice.

Prairie City MX hosts a Mammoth Qualifier weekend. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is raceday.

Here is what is needed to get the Sandbox MX going again.

Sadly the Sandbox MX in Fernley is still closed and here are the reasons. Hope this can be resolved soon,

E Street MX Park has practice sessions on both of its tracks.

• E Street has practice from 9 until 2 on both tracks for Saturday and Sunday.

MMX Racing has practice this weekend.

• MMX Racing on Saturday has practice from 9 until 2 on the Main and Kid’s tracks while the Sand track is a SOT private ride. On Sunday, from 9 until 3 p.m., all the tracks are used for practice.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

NASCAR is in Texas this weekend and here is their TV schedule.

• This weekend NASCAR is in Texas, and with the exception of the races on CW, everything is behind a Pay Wall. However www.youtube.com will carry highlights of all the races.

• On Thursday Fox Sports 1 has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour starting at 3:30 p.m. and at 4 p.m. they’ll broadcast Speed.

• Friday at 5:40 a.m. Apple TV has the first Formula 1 practice from Miami. Then at 7 a.m. Roku has the first Formula E practice from Berlin. Apple TV comes back at 10:10 a.m. with Formula 1 Sprint qualifying.

• Saturday starts early at 12:30 a.m. as Roku has the second Formula E practice followed by qualifying. Then at 5:56 a.m. Apple has the Formula 1 Sprint race. Roku at 7:05 a.m. has the Formula E race from Berlin while, at 9:25 a.m. Apple TV has Formula 1 qualifying.

This Saturday the AMA Supercross visits Denver.
  • Peacock at 10 a.m. has Race Day Live then at 4 p.m. airs the next round of the AMA Supercross series. This time they are in Denver.
  • At 3:10 p.m. www.imsa.tv has WeatherTech SportsCar qualifying from Laguna Seca. Fox 1 at 6:30 p.m. has NHRA qualifying show #1 from the Southern Nationals.

• On Sunday starting at 7:10 a.m. Roku has the Formula E race from Berlin. Then at 8:50 a.m. Apple TV has the Formula 1 race from Miami. Peacock comes on at 1 p.m. with the IMSA Weather Tech SportsCar race from Laguna Seca.

The NHRA is at South Georgia Motorsports Park for the Southern Nationals this week.
  • The day ends at 4 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the finals from the NHRA Southern Nationals.

That’s it for this weekend so if possible be sure to get out for a race or one of the many car meets. You’ll meet some great people.
