CAR MEETS, MOTORCYCLE CRUISE & SWAP MEET

RENO, NV (MAY 4) – This past weekend had several meets, a motorcycle cruise as well as a swap meet plus at least one track having a race. There was something for about everyone.

Every Friday, weather permitting , the Reno Bike Community has a ride.

• On Friday the Reno Bike Community hosted another of its Friday evening rides. The meeting site was the Maverik’s station on the corner of Sutro Street and North McCarran.

The group welcomes everyone and there are several women riders that join the Friday night functions. One of them is Shay Goodman, who works for Children’s Services for Washoe County.

Shaw Goodman is one of the women participating in these rides.

Asked about her bike she said, “ It’s a Ninja 500, it’s a 2025 Kawasaki and I love it. On June 9th it will be a year that I’ve had it and I’ve got 16 thousand 300 miles on it. I just put some under glow in it and heated grips because I like to ride in the winter.

“My goal is to actually up grade to the ZX6R and to turn this one into my track bike. Just to do track days at Thunderhill to get better as the skills that I need to myself safe. I’ve got the bright pink helmet, I bought that before the bike and I wear a bright pink hoodie as I try and make myself a visible as possible. I think everybody needs a bike as it’s great therapy.”

This is only part of the bikes ready for the Friday evening cruise.

There was the usual long line of bikes waiting for 7 p.m. when its kickstands up and the weekly cruise began.

Need2Speed had another of its Kars & Karts meets Saturday.

• Saturday started at Need2Speed with their next Kars & Karts meeting. This time there was some celebrating this week’s Cinco de Mayo featival.

Here is another enhanced Chevy on display.

Parked beside it was another enhanced Chevy convertible. This sported paint job, hydraulics and a shined up motor.

There were several motorcycles also on display.

There were also several motorcycles on display. At the end of one line there was a bike with special paint and chromed spoke wheels.

While virtually all the cars were street legal there was one that wasn’t.  It was a Dwarf Car raced by Callie Whiting, just turned 19 and races Dwarf Cars all over the west coast.

Callie Whiting stands by the Dwarf Car she races. Her’s was the only car that wasn’t street legal.

Asked about the car she said, “I own a legacy chassis built by Chad Mathis himself. Running with them this year and so far I love my new car. The help and support I get from them unbeatable and just the geometry, the front end suspension, you can’t find anything else like it on the market. Handling is 100 times better than what I was in last year, even with the same stuff into this new car.

She added her first race this season started in Merced, California and one in Petaluma. Two have been rained out and she just returned from Mohave Valley for a national. She said, “That was quite the haul.”

She also added thanks to her sponsors like O’Reilly Auto Parts as well as the others that support her.

There were rows and rows of cars. At one end there was a pair of Ford Mustang II sedans. One was stock while the other was equipped with an enhanced engine.

• Saturday afternoon there was another Coffee & Cream meet hosted by Handel’s Ice Cream at the summit mall. Fortunately the rains storm had passed over the area when the meet began.

The Handel’s Ice Cream booth was a busy place and even had an exotic car parked next to it.

The Handel’s booth is popular for the discount coupons they hand out as well as toys for the kids.

These two Lamborghini STOs were parked next to each other.

As usual there were several Lamborghinis at the meet and two of them were parked side by side. Their owners were confident the rain was gone as they had the windows down.

There was also another gray Lamborghini that has a special license plate. It’s owned by Samuel Moran and was parked in another row.

Asked about his car he said, “I’m driving a 2023 Lamborghini Huracan STO. I think May 9th is a year so I’ve had it just under a year. It drives fast obviously but it’s also very bumpy, which is uncomfortable. The car has very stiff suspension.

Of course the next question was about his License Plate on the car.

He points to the funny license plate his mother suggested.

“My license plate is just a funny play on my age. It says “THXSMOM,” and my mom suggested it.”

While most of the cars were modern there was this restored vintage Coupe.

While most cars were pretty modern there was one that wasn’t. Someone brought a restored Coupe that even sports a flat head V8, which suggests it’s a Ford.

• Reno Cars & Coffee had its first meet of the month. Location is by the Human Bean Coffee Stand by the corner of  Keitzke and Moana Lanes.

As expected there was a Corvette row at the meet.

Due to the weather the turn out was lighter than normal. However there was an expected Corvette row.

Several cars had their hoods up.

Toward the end of another row it was hoods up. That way the spectators could see how the owners cleaned up and maybe enhanced their car’s engines.

Johnny Mac stands by his restored 1964 Chevy Impala SS convertible.

Over by the street there was a white Chevy convertible owned by Johnny Macias and he said his boys call him Johnny Mac.

Asked by the car he said, “We are looking at a freshly done 1964 Chevy Impala SS Convertible. It actually was a three-year build. Frame up, there’s nothing on this car that has not been touched.

The Impala now is powered by a 350 Short Block motor.

“The original engine is long gone when I got the car now it’s got a 350 short block right out the box. It was born with a two-speed Power Glide but as you know that thing goes zero to sixty in an hour so we just cleaned it up and put a Turbo 350 in that thing.”

Asked how it rides he said, “Like a champ. It’s actually stock suspension. My hands feel like I pick flowers for a living so no, I want my car to be a stock suspension where I just turn the key and go. Everybody I know has hydraulics in their cars, it seems like they are always working on that and that’s not me. And I don’t like leaks as the car is white.”

Two lowered imports were part of the mix.

Not far away were two imported lowered cars that were a contrast. One was a Japanese import while the other was a classic German VW.
